Golfcourse tailgating question

Submitted by Bleedmaizeblue on
This weekend we will be tailgating as usual at the golf course for the Maryland game. My wife really wants to bring a propane heater to stay warm. But I'm unsure if that is acceptable. Has anyone brought a propane heater tailgating before? I didn't know if this would be an issue. So I figured I'd ask the experts...

This is a pretty silly question to ask. Im sure you've seen tailgaters dump their used coals right on the course why would you think they would allow charcoal, yet bad a propane heater?

Be careful around those things. My dad had ours set up at the tailgate before the Ohio State game a couple years ago. He was walking around in his long, very expensive LLBean jacket. I'm sitting there minding my own business, and all of the sudden his coat is on fire. He just kind of brushed it on the heater, and the back hem just went up.

In other words, watch your clothes, watch your kids, and don't get too close.

was it right next to the Angell House and the pole barn building/equipment shed where the AAGO has a gate to the U of M Golf Course?

That was quite the party for that IU game!

Yup, someone at our tailgate brought a propane heater last tailgate. It was essentially a full sized grill propane tank with a dual burner attachment on top. It was great. Can't imagine it's any different than bringing a grill.

We set up 8 tents and put the side panels on for Indiana and we had four heaters anywhere from 30,000 - 60,000 btu. You could have worn flip flops and shorts in there. One caution. Keep them away from the tent sides when it's windy.

...both for Michigan Basketball and for propane heaters on the golf courses.

I've had a propane heater for the last 4 seasons and it's probably one of my best investments for tailgating.  Have used it inside the canopy on several occasions, keeping the door unzipped for ventilation, and it's been well worth the investment.  Just give it plenty of space and you're good.

A related question, come this weekend, is this: will the golf courses be fully open?  With the early onset of winter, don't be surprised if there is limited availability.  Here's the phone # for Ann Arbor Golf &  Outing: 1-734-663-4044, tap "5" for football parking info.

We have a patio heater that we use at every cold game. Our tent is even tall enough to keep it inside. I don't recommend having it inside unless you have a lot of clearance and ventilation.

Not quite what we have, but close. One of those "low riding" portable fire pits. Good for a tent, because it's not tall -- but you DO have to watch your step a little, of course.
