Golf Course Tailgating Observations

Submitted by Happyshooter on
A group of friends set up a tailgate on the G&OC golf course. We were pretty much in the middle. My observations... 1. about 40ish% were state supporters. 2. state supporters overall were fairly polite. 3. the course was 100% full to the brim with people. 4. the guinness beer tent was AWESOME. Girls dressed like slutty refs, good beer, leather furniture, lots of tailgating games. If we had not been with friends we would have spent way more time than a half hour there. 5. late games are not good for peoples' alcohol levels. By 2 several people had gone down hard. A group of girls ended up passed out by one next to the side door of our car, because they had been doing straight jager. My wife went to make sure they were alive and they stumbled off somewhere about 3. That was just one small story in sea of total drunkness. I have never been to mardi gras but it has to be like that. 6. people seemed overall happy. Even after what happened, Michigan fans weren't very mad, and the MSU people weren't nasty overmuch about it. 7. I sobbered up enough to drive to the motel, where at 7pm both yellow and blue cab Cos had a two hour wait. Our sneakers got a work out. 8. the crappers were so undernumbered that it was crazy. Some were literally full to the brim by 2pm. Charging $40 a carload is a lot, charging that much and not renting enough units for the women to pee is a rip-off. Boo to the G&OC.

I've never been to a game like this, where I had so much fun before the game then the game was such a disapointment. After the game I just didn't know what to think.

I saw at least two girls carted out of the stadium on stretchers. Both had passed out and were incredibly pale. 3:30 game + booze + irresponsible undergrads + warm weather + standing for half a football game = trouble.

Overall the MSU fans I encountered were respectful and friendly. There were a few idiots on the walk home that were sloshed enough to yell some pretty nasty stuff, but it was less than I expected. Congratulated a few of them on a good game and got responses of "Shoelace for Heisman!" (Probably sarcastic, but it's tough to pick up with all the slurring of speech.)

Walked through the golf course for a half hour looking for someone. That was a waste of time. So many people.

After the game, 2 different MSU people waving around sign that said, "Little Brother Kicked Your Ass." So, yeah, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say they were NOT respectful about it. However, my response to one of them was that OHHHH you beat us 3 times in a row compared to us beating you 7 times in a row. Guess it's finally a rivalry again.

I don't know about anyone else, but it's not even losing that sucks. It's having to put up with those douches and their ignorant rants for another year...

I tailgated at the golf course for the first time yesterday and had an awesome time.  I agree with the OP--there were quite a few people that were wicked drunk.  A friend of mine drank himself into the hospital.

Was that normal to have that many State fans at the game? That is the first time I've been to a UM-MSU game. Seemed like 30-40% of the stands were green and white.

I can't atest for this year's game because I wasn't there. But I was in '08 and I couldn't believe how out of control some of my fellow fans were, obviously it was a very small percentage of idiots but when your witnessing mutliple fights involving Michgan fans fighting Michigan fans(talk about having your priorties backwards), your in a bit of disbelief, it was pretty ridiculous. Than again, I guess that's what you get when the younger crowd starts drinking at 9 o'clock in the morning.
