Last Saturday's game stung us all after seeing our Wolverines fall to Sparty again for the second time. I went crazy after Tate forced in an overtime TD to tie it up. But after the interception that marked it over. It was difficult seeing Michigan loose its streak and it's rank and it hurt but not as bad as I expected it. I know it's our second major rival and I know it's a huge game but somehow I saw this problem coming. It's very difficult for a true freshman quarterback to bring a team into a hostile enviornment like Forcier had to do last Saturday in East Lansing. But I was not impressed with our offensive line and wide recievers. Way too many dropped passes and bad blocks. Plus our coverage on Cousins wasn't good either. After the game I thought to myself "can we beat Iowa?" After Iowa's close and loose preformance with Arkansas State only winning 24-21 I saw some holes and gaps in the Iowa defense that if Forcier and the offense can put big points up on we will have a good chance to win. BUT it's an away night game and Tate and the gang with have to play much harder and much more focused if they are going to upset Iowa. So far I'm very impressed with Michigan's season going into the 6th week. 4-1 1-1 not bad. We dropped from the top 25 but a win against Iowa would do wonders and give our guys a huge boost in confidence. Nothing helps better then beating teams in the top 10 or 25 and if Michigan works hard in practice fixing those defensive and offensive line errors then we deffinetly can leave their field 5-1 2-1 GO BLUE
Going into the 6th Week
read a passage from the Sound and the Fury by Faulkner....
But Go Blue!
Please. Long, gigantic paragraphs are difficult to read. I actually stopped after the first few sentences. I hope I didn't miss anything.
The Sound and the Fury is beauty. This board...not so much.
Slight correction, they would be our 3rd (or even 4th) rival behind OSU, Notre Dame, and possibly PSU. I would argue that, for as much as I hate MSU (and I truly passionately do), Notre Dame at least is a bigger rival than they are.
How come I'm the only one that feels that Delaware State is our biggest rival?
Since it is an 'in State' rivalry, it has the potential of being the biggest rivalry, if Dantonio continues to make progress. That's right, I said "biggest"; it would not do to have a resurgent Spartan program beating us on a regular basis, if not more than average. That would suck even more than being beat by OSU.
Sorry, I don't agree. MSU could be good, but good will never match up to the 100-year-old tradition of OSU-UM. To say otherwise is Maize and Blue sacrilege.
You just can't top the all-out war that began with Bo and Woody. (For the record, I know: the rivalry is older than that, but the intensity increased dramatically during the ten year war).
How many times has the UM-MSU rivalry determined the B10 champ? A Rose Bowl appearance? A BCS National Title appearance?
Not enough times to matter.
Dantonio would have to coach to an average 10-2 record for the next 30 years to make the UM-MSU rivalry even close to the UM-OSU rivalry.
On a side note: anybody else notice 3 of our 4 rivals are "_____ State University"?
IMO, is that your colleagues, neighbors, friends, and often family, are rooting for the other team. The in-state aspect puts the adversary in your face more frequently (and hence more opportunity to trash talk).
if you are out-of-state, then you (or at least I) don't typically come across MSU fans/ grads. ND people are absolutely everywhere and so are OSU fans (at least they never miss a chance to wear OSU gear wherever they are).
Given that and the fact the game was on the BTN and the ND & OSU games have and will never be on the BTN, I think that MSU is Rival #3.
and their gear can be easily explained.
1. There are very few OSU fans outside of that shitty state who did not attend OSU.
2. OSU grads, not being the brightest bunch, feel insecure(rightly so) amongst your average humans.
3. They thus wear their OSU gear as if to say "I'm not dumb, I went to college!". Except they probably wouldn't spell it right.
That being said, losing to Sparty hurts like hell because:
1. They in general are looked upon as a joke team. So losing to them is LOLZ.
2. Dantonio's d-baggery will be insufferable for the next year and we wont have a good comeback.
I would rather beat OSU, ND, and PSU over MSU, but I hate to lose to MSU more than ND and PSU because we have to hear about it. Beating MSU does not bring joy, it brings a sigh of relief. Beating OSU, ND, or PSU makes me happy.
What's the biggest reason we lost to MSU? We couldn't run the ball. Unless we want to count on another miracle comback from The Youthful Legend, we must be able to run the ball against Iowa. It will be difficult; their front seven is stout.
Our O-line chemistry begins with David Molk. Hopefully he can return for a few snaps in the Delaware State game and be ready for the Penn State game.
