Go Buckeyes (Sunday, and Sunday Only)

Submitted by BiSB on

That's right. You heard me. Go Bucks. O-H, and whatnot.

I've noticed a number of people on Twitter saying that they still can't root for OSU this weekend, even though an OSU win (coupled with a Michigan win over PSU) means Michigan's first Big Ten regular season title since 1837 1986. So, as someone who would really like to see that, I simply don't understand the impulse to root against the Buckeyes in this situation.

So, my question to those who will be rooting against OSU is this: what's up with that?

EDIT: I forgot WBB was taking on Ohio today. Title changed to reflect the fact that for today, OHIO SUCKS, and we wish all of the bad things in the world to happen to them and no one else.

I could understand if the Buckeyes were playing anyone else... but when they are playing against Michigan State, and  we can claim our first share of the Big 10 championship since 1986, go Buckeyes, for 1 game and 1 game only!  I think different rules should apply when your 2 least favorite programs are playing against one another; sometimes the overall balance of things leads to it making sense to root for one of them..

But yes, first priority...go Wolverines against Penn State...

"Beat MSU"

"Potential Destinations for Semi-Cataclysmic Meteor Strikes"

"Even if they win, OSU are still a bunch of losers"

"Who to root for this weekend"

I'm sure ya'll will come up with more.

It's a simple rule. I always root against Ohio except in the case that it directly benefits Michigan for them to win. If we beat PSU, then that caveat kicks in and I'll have to root for Ohio, as dirty as that makes me feel.

I will never ever cheer for Ohio. Never.

I will, however, happily cheer for the demise of Michigan State. I am rooting for Michigan State to lose. Not for Ohio to win.

This thread is full of win.  Rooting for the Buckeyes is like playing wingman for a buddy that is trying to score and being set up with a troll.  Its the right thing to do for the team, but you feel dirty for weeks afterwards.

The nice thing about the timing of the games on sunday; we play at 1, they play at 4.  So, if for some crazy reason we dont beat penn st and an ohio win is no longer of any value to me, I can go back to my buckeye hating ways.

Go buckeyes, indeed. I have no problem rooting for OSU to win on Sunday if it means Michigan gets to hang another banner from the roof of Crisler Center.

Lesser Of two evils. Sparty outright title and sharting the title with your 2 hated rivals. No brainer. Edit: I realize I said sharting instead of sharing. I'm not changing it

root for Ohio here. If Ohio loses,  Michigan State wins the big ten outright and in my opinion, MSU fans are so much more annoying than Ohio fans, If Ohio wins (and we do too), we get a share of the big ten. Man up, feel dirty, cheer for Ohio to win

No.  Never.  Screw the Bucks, always and forever.

If they happen to win, so be it.

Those of you actively rooting for them are seriously misguided.   You must never root or encourage the evil that is from Columbus.

Like I said, if they happen to win, fine.  But root for them? Hell no.

I will be very glad (ok, ecstatic) if things work out so that our team is co-cham[pion of the Big Ten.  But the words, "Go Bxxxs," will never escape my lips or even cross my mind under any circumstances.  In this rare instance, hatred is just more important than joy.

How very Sparty of you....

Honestly, I don't understand the attitude that you NEVER root for Ohio.  If by 3:15 on Sunday, Michigan has dispatched the Lions and we need the Buckeyes to beat MSU to give us our first Big 10 Conference Championship in over a quarter century, I'm praying to God, Allah, and the Pantheon of Asgard to make it happen.  I don't understand how any true Michigan fan could feel differently.

The banner is ALWAYS the primary goal.  It shouldn't be wishing misfortune upon your enemies.

rooting for the Bucks and I don't feel the least bit dirty about it.  Ultimately I care about what is best for Michigan more than I care about what is bad for Ohio.
