"Go Blue Maize Rage Supports You" banner at Crisler

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

Did anyone see this at Crisler today?

Is this new? Do the players go out and hit it?

It was right above the tunnel.

There were a few games in the early-mid 90s (IIRC) where they hauled out the M Club banner for basketball games. It was always a little odd, as because it's proportioned to a football field, it looks really out of place on a basketball court. I don't know if they even unrolled it all the way.

I haven't been at the "Crisler Center" since it was remodeled, but I am going to go out on a limb and assume that the transcript of Cazzie Russell's speech is still there.  As someone who witnessed the speech, I hope it is still around long after most of us here aren't.

Every day before David Brandon goes to work, he should be forced to read the poem that Cazzie read, called "Indispensible Man:"

Sometime when you’re feeling important;
Sometime when your ego’s in bloom
Sometime when you take it for granted
You’re the best qualified in the room,

Sometime when you feel that your going
Would leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow these simple instructions
And see how they humble your soul;

Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Put your hand in it up to the wrist,
Pull it out and the hole that’s remaining
Is a measure of how you will be missed.

You can splash all you wish when you enter,
You may stir up the water galore,
But stop and you’ll find that in no time
It looks quite the same as before.

The moral of this quaint example
Is do just the best that you can,
Be proud of yourself but remember,
There’s no indispensable man.

I was at the game and thought the banner was cool.  What I struggled with was the fact that there was no band, kind of felt like a Pistons game with the whole DJ vibe.  I have to tell you though, Crisler was much louder than I remember in previous years/games.  The students were on it today.  Sure wish the band was there.  Spoke with some Arizona fans and they were blown away by how nice and high-tech Crisler is.  They said their arena does not even compare.

He should have found a way, any way to get Harbaugh to come here.  The Student ticket/general admission thing is a HORRIBLE IDEA.

I don't think on a national scale that Michigan is seen as one of the top jobs.  Probably top 10, but not mich higher.  For the things said earlier, prickly fanbase, stuck in the past and unusually stubborn toward old traditions and ways make this job a little less appealing .

You say prickly, I say passionate. If a coach does the right things and delivers wins, we will support that coach to the end of the world. Have some tough losses and we can turn. I think a coach would want a passionate fan base rather than an apathetic fan base even with all the negatives that come with the former.

You're the one who continues to beat a dead horse about whether or not Dave Brandon is the ONLY AD who watches film rather than just accepting that he does watch film and that's probably not an attractive thing to a coaching candidate. Argue a point that matters.

You're totally right, an AD watching film absolutely outweighs everything else we have to offer to a coaching candidate. Tradition, great fans, top of the line facilities, great compensation and a passionate fan base. We shouldn't even have to argue about coaching candidates because we have a great coach who has the potential to be here a long, long time.
