GLI Championship open thread: UM vs. MSU
Beat STAEE!
and let's also BEAT STATE!! (though I also hate the Society for Terrible Anonymous Emailing Emus)
megangoblue's brother is using all of the bandwith at her house and streaming is awful. I feel like I should be rooting for Joe Louis instead of rooting for a game at Joe Louis, listening to a sporting event on the radio and all...
The guys on the radio call must not know they're able to be heard on the live stream. "Someone should take McInchak and have him ref peewee hockey. I've got records that show he makes extremely weak calls on Michigan."
You should be listening to the mi broadcast. Al Randall is berating the refs right now. These guys are bums.
I guess we have to beat FYS and the biased refs tonight.
Haha, yes. I switched over after I could get them synced and he's going even better. Nothing like listening to the announcers talk about the refs the same way you do.
How do you get them synced? I've tried pausing the audio feed, but when I resume, it's current, not where I left off.
Hell if I know how I did it; I just kept refreshing the audio page until I got lucky and they synced up. The FSN stream is now using the Michigan radio feed, though, so now you can listen to the good guys on it.
Hmm, it used to say they were using MSU's feed. I wonder if they'll stay with the U-M feed for the rest of the game.
is this a free stream from FSD?
Score and time left?
I second this request. can we get semiregular updates for those of us who aren't able to live stream it?
13' left in second.
Sparty going on the PP.
Still all zeros, 9 min left in the 2nd period, MSU just went on a power play
PK did their job, I think both teams 0-2 on PP.
SHIT!
2:47 left in 2nd.
2:47 left in the 2nd, still 1-0.
Michigan has been flat the second half of this period.
C'mon, guys!
The last 1:30 of the period was the best chance Michigan had a scoring a goal since about two minutes into the period. Hopefully they can come out strong again to get the equalizer.
Weird, we outshot them 11-7 in the second (18-18 overall), but it must have all been early. I only saw a couple shots on goal after their PP.
4 Michigan vs. 4 MSU fans trying to pull each other across the red line; M won and all 4 promptly dropped to the ice and Tebowed/Denarded.
No comprendo "Tebowed."
What is Red's record against State? Is it over .500? It seems like it's always a struggle against these guys, no matter how good or bad they are.
says that he's under .500 career, but by less than 10 games. A lot of that comes from State's dominance early in his career.
Throwing in a little bit of "In Heaven There Is No Beer" with "I Can't Turn You Loose"? I don't know if that's sweet or scary to be incorporating part of Iowa into our tradition.
It is also played at MTU during games as well.
Oh well then that makes it a bit better.
Let's Go Blue!
Whats the score?
Still 1-0, them
17:01 left, still 1-0. Faceoff in MSU zone.
In the 3rd?
Yes, now 16:01, same score, another face off in MSU zone
Thanks, go blue!
Slashing, U-M on PP.
We need the PP to come through big right now.
That was a waste of a PP
Dammit, we can't keep it in the zone. No joy on PP.
Great kill by MSU unfortunately.
TIE GAME. GOAL DUBLOIS
De Blois!!! 1-1, tie game!!!
Way to crash the net boys
WOO!
start the bcs chant
No. Wait until the victory is assured.
The announcers aren't sure on OT in the GLI.
Just so everyone knows, no SO in the GLI, it should be continous OT periods.
Bert with a goal with assits to Commodore and Ericson.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
ARGH!
Wells lets get a quick one
Damn. MSU's only real good chance this period and they capitalize.
Bad goal. Hunwick not in position.
.
U-M PP
Lets go boys
Faceoff in their end.
pull Hunwick for a 6 on 4?
I would think so.
Why is Hunwick still in the net?
Lynch ties it 2-2 with Hunwick on the bench.
TIE GAME AGAIN!!!!!!!! MOFFATT CENTERS IT FOR WHO KNOWS BUT WHO CARES. 2-2
It was Kevin Lynch.
Tied at 2, way to get the ugly goals tonight.
WOOO!!!!
Take that State!
goal count
Faceoff in our end.
BEAT STAEE!!
40-21 in our favor.
UM in OT vs. FYS on FSD. OMGWTFBBQ? HALOL!
Need to avenge that shootout loss.
Holy cow batman, States goalie is the only reason it's tied.
The kid has made some incredible saves. He's pushing my anxiety to some record levels.
He's been giving up some juicy rebounds; all we need is one to finish off. I do agree that he's been standing on his head many times.
hate college hockey overtimes
no sudden death?
My feed looks like it's on hold so I'm assuming 20 minute periods until someone scores.
5 min
Well, maybe we'll score at the 5:00 mark.
Made my son's night, as I emailed in and the announcers read our names. Poor little guy couldn't stay awake for the whole thing so hopefully I'll be able to give him good news tomorrow morning!
Go Blue!
Icing on Sparty.
And remember, no TV timeouts in overtime.
No TV timeouts when there's no TV, too.
Uhh, didn't they change that this year, or was that just a CCHA thing?
This game is being streamed on FSD, not actually on TV.
The point is the CCHA may have added a rule that you do regularly planned "TV timeouts" whether or not the game is televised, so there's not a difference in game flow between televised and non-televised games.
Except this was the GLI, so CCHA rules didn't apply.
Whether CCHA rules applied or not, there were 3 media timeouts per period in all 4 GLI games. Probably because the WCHA also requires the TV timeouts, and the hosts of the tournament are from the WCHA (Michigan Tech) and the CCHA (Michigan).
Per rule, there are no TV timeouts in overtime.
C'mon, Blue!
Faceoff in our end.
Faceoff in their end.
bout time we get one of these OT games
GOAAALLLL
Goooaaalllll!!!!!!!! GLI Champs!!!!!!
wins!
WOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We did it!
YESSSS!!!
TWICE FOR EMPHASIS?!
SURE
YESSS!!!
Go Blue!
GLI Champs baby!
GO BLUE!
I love beating FYS
3-2, Clare gets the winner!!!
47 to 25 in our favor.
15th GLI championship
GOAL! Clare from Moffie!
Woot!!! We can keep the 2011 up on the GLI banner in Yost. (They mistakenly put up 2011 on the banner in the offseason instead of 2010..)
Go blue!!!!!
What a pretty passing play from a couple of defenders! WOOO
Absolute great weekend for the boys. Knocking off both #3 and #14 in back-to-back nights.
Woo!
Wohlberg, Treais, and Clare.
Clare is also MVP.
@Cap'n Blue, thanks for the links. Great game and good to see us online, even if we should have bumped the pistons off of FSN
of stating the obvious, it is SO much better to be a Wolverine than a Sparty.
Don't know/care how it is to be a Spartan, but I can confirm that it is Great To Be a Michigan Wolverine!
I can only imagine that is what it is like in Spartyland. Waiting for the promiseland but knowing you may never reach it til the world ends.
anyone capture the game on torrent for mgovideo?
both the Detroit Pistons and Red Wings had games tonight, so our game was not broadcast on TV. I've pinged FSD's Twitter account to see they even recorded it, and if they would air a re-play of the game. Cross your fingers.
nice. thanks for the help. did you get the michigan/bc game from last night?
What a game... Awesome seeing spartys disappointed.
I was at the game tonight. Great game, great win, but whoever decides MVP needs new medication.
How can Clare be the MVP over Palmisano? Dislike FYS as much as the next guy, but only reason State was in championship game and note blown out was Palmisano. He made over 40 saves each night.
Although Clare had the game winner, its not like he stood out otherwise over the weekend.
Beat the number 3 team in the country and Sparty for the championship. I'd say tourney was a success. Made me feel a hell of a lot better about hockey than just a couple of days ago.
We can still make the tournament! Hope springs eternal.
Can anyone with better knowledge about the national college hockey landscape than myself tell us what this weekend has done for our tourney chances? How close would we be to being in if the season ended today?
Unlike other sports, the NCAA Hockey Committee has an open selection process--no smoke-filled rooms for the selection of the at-large teams. Their selection rules are replicated by something called the Pairwise Ratings:
http://www.collegehockeynews.com/ratings/ncaapwcr.php
If the season ended today, and assuming no major upsets in the conference tournaments...
#1 seeds: Ohio State, Minnesota-Duluth, Boston College, Minnesota
#2 seeds: Boston University, Notre Dame, Merrimack, Massachusetts-Lowell
#3 seeds: Northern Michigan, Michigan State, Colgate, Western Michigan
#4 seeds: Michigan, Cornell, Lake Superior, AHA tournament champion (Air Force?)
Notice that there are 7 CCHA teams that would qualify right now. Since there are no non-conference games remaining in the CCHA, these 7 teams will start knocking each other out of the top 16 and we will probably be left with only 5 or so teams in the tournament. The key for Michigan will be to make sure that they beat the teams near them in the standings--next weekend's series against Lake Superior, plus series against MSU and Northern on back-to-back weekends in mid-February are the key games on the schedule.
I do hope FSD replays it sometime this weekend. I can't imagine that they wouldn't.
I was at both games; best GLI I've seen in a long, long time. FSD NEEDS to replay this game!
