Give thoughts or prayers for Louisville player Kevin Ware
The most gruesome injury I have ever seen, hands down. If you didn't see it live or on a reply, I honestly do not recommend it. Get well soon, big guy.
EDIT: Players on the the court fell down and some were in tears. Happened in front of the UL bench and reports are that some UL players literally couldn't hold their stomach. Pitino wiped away tears.
Kid still managed to give his team a short pep talk before they took him away on the stretcher.
Never seen anything like that in my life. And I've seen a man fall off an an airplane at an airshow and I think this may have disturbed me as much.
God bless him.
I was also there (pretty sure we're talking about the same event) and this is almost worst because you can see every detail.
Yes the one at Selfridge. The guy was a wingwalker.
Even worse for me because I was in one of the company VIP tents and I kid you not, I was directly in front where it happened. People around me were hopping the fence running out into the field trying to save him.
Makes you think about how on any given moment, any player in any sport can be crippled or almost crippled for life. Forget about basketball for now, lets hope he can walk again.
That was haunting. A teribble, terrible thing to have happen to him.
I played football for 8 years. I broke a foot, broke multiple fingers, got 3 concussions, tore a tendon in my foot and got various other injuries and firsthand witnessed even more. Despite all that, I still literally threw up and almost passed out after they showed the first replay. I hope nothing but the best for that young man (and his teammates and opponents that were there)and wish that everything possible is done to ensure he has a speedy recovery.
I nearly threw up just watching
I'm confused as to why his leg actually broke - it didn't look like that awkward of a landing to me. Like maybe a roll-your-ankle kind of landing -- did I miss something about it where it was more awkward to cause such a drastic injury? Or did he just straight up have terrible luck despite not that awkward of a landing?
Maybe an infection that weakened the bone or some other type of defect that didn't show up until now, just horrible.
Bones are strong but relaitvely brittle (ie not a lot of bend). Put enough pressure at just the right angle and it can snap. Probably a 1 in a million sort of fluky thing.
I don't understand how that happened? Its not like a football play where he got hit or had another player's weight on him. It was really just that he landed funny. I'm shocked that only his own weight could do that much damage.
Have had an underlying bone lesion such as a cyst (pathologic fracture). Should not break like that under normal circumstances.
Glad I missed it. Don't care to see it either.

Saw the injury on replay once, and that cannot be unseen. Hope he can recover from it
against nature and injury. My hopes and prayers are going out to you.
When they started the replay, I didn't watch, not because my stomach can't take that kind of thing, but because really have a problem with the choice to show it.
I personally think it's an affront to the kid's dignity to show the replay. We're such a nation of voyeurs that think there's some entitlement to see everything that exists on film, but f that, there's no "right to know" or particular newsworthiness to real-life horror. This isn't covering war or a terrorist attack where the carnage is genuinely a part of understanding the scope of the story.
Sure, it impacts the game, but it's the fact he's not going to play that is the newsworthy part, not the nature of the injury. Certain things are simply over the line. A bad rolled ankle? OK, we've probably all been there, makes you cringe but it's not such a huge deal. Theismann, Lattimore, even Fitz, frankly, were too much.
Sensationalizing gruesome injuries just pisses me off. I know (KNOW) no one on this board is going to post a pic or link to a vid.
Arrrgh, media. Arrrgh, nation of voyeurs. Best wishes, young man, I hope your surgery and recovery go as well as possible.
I have no problem with them showing the replay again. They were not glorifying a dirty hit. They were not showing anything that this kid should find embarrasing. If you find it gross to watch, look away. I am glad they showed it again, because my wife and I missed it the first time and I wanted to see what happened. Once was enough for me and I will not watch it again, but I have that choice. Don't force your watching values on everyone. :)
It was on youtube literally 3 minutes after it happened anyway
He will live. He will have the opportunity to rehab and play again and if that does not work he will have a full scholarship to get an education and make something of himself. As bad as this was, the future is still bright for this young kid. It was a grotesque injury to watch, but their are far worse injuries that one can sustain in sports, particularly head injuries. Lets hope for the best for him.
And this is a major reason I still support amateur college athletics. If this young man had to play in a minor pro league for minimal pay, what would he do now? At least he can continue his education and have a chance for a better life.
One silver lining, if you can even find one in this, is that as bad a if looked, acl tears are usually much worse in terms if recovery than a leg break, even one that bad.
This sad injury happened just as we were getting up to eat. My appetite got a bit smaller after that. Sending prayers his way.
I seen this kind of break happen this year to an 8th grader on our wrestling team during a match. I could hear the break from the stands. His leg was dangling by skin. The bone didnt break the skin though. Very very horrible and sad. Im praying for this kid.
Hopefully Kevin can recover fully and recover quickly. My thoughts and prayers go out to him, his family, and his teammates.
I got home right when he was leaving on the stretcher. Made the mistake of watching it on YouTube. Feel so bad for the kid. Such a horrific injury. So many prayers...
I had the misfortune of watching a man send both shin bones through his boots in a fast-roping accident. That was worse than this, because I was the guy on the rope after him, I helped the corpsman treat the wounds. That's not exactly sports, but yeah, this is what our fighting men and women get to see. Sorry for the reality check, but it is what it is. That doesn't diminish what this young man will face going forward. I wish him and his family the best. But remember our vets see this stuff pretty frequently.
The reactions of the players from both teams and the coaches was truly heartbreaking.
Had this same injury happen right in front of me playing basketball in high school. An opponent jumped for a rebound and when he landed his leg snapped in half, bone protruding. I immediately looked at their bench and waved for someone to come over. Back in our huddle a couple teammates were fighting off the urge to vomit. Something I'll never forget.
He'll be fine. Busy Level 1 trauma centers see this injury a few times a month. Infection is probably the biggest risk because it was an open fracture. The Lattimore injury requires far more complex procedure with a less predictable outcome.
Is this much different from the injury Fitz suffered? Obviously the skin broke in this instance, but is there anything else? Both injuries looked absolutely gruesome. Best of luck to him in his recovery.
Injuries very similar. Fitz had an open fracture as well.
Risk of infection is very low. This happened in a clean environment. Usually these are from car/motorcycle wrecks or farm accidents still with quick antibiotic administration have a low infection rate.
The thing that's crazy about this injury is that it wasn't an awkward landing or anything. He literally just contested the shot and came down. Didn't land on anybody's foot, didn't roll his ankle, it just snapped. Prayers and thoughts to him.
I came home from Easter dinner with the fam, turned the game on, and based on the reaction, I was convinced he died on the court. I realize it sucks, and yes, it was a bad injury, but let's save our "prayers" for people who really need them.
Because there aren't enough prayers to go around? Come on now...
It's not that at all. The point is how it was being blown out of proportion. Like I said, I tuned in right after it happened, and I was convinced the kid broke his neck, or just dropped dead.
That may be but your last sentence makes it seems like our prayers "have" to go somewhere else...
Well one silver lining for the Louisville faithful, they are almost a lock for a title at this point. They're going to rally around Ware and just boat-race the hell out of their next couple opponents. I can see it now, it's probably inevitable
I can't watch that because I shattered my tib/fib similar to Fitz. My question is, was the injury any worse than Fitz'? Beacsue if not the guy can still plan on a recovery and be playing again in less than a year. Even though it looked bad because nothing was covering it and the injury was clear for all to see (I know that can be a mental hurdle for an athlete) it shouldn't be career ending...that is my hope at least.
I know I will sound like a terrible person, but on the broadcast they pretty much acted like the kid died. It was broken leg. A particularly gruesome one, yes, but still just a broken leg. No different from Touissant's. I feel terrible for him, obviously. But I thought the broadcast was a little over the top.
all bitches. Yes it was bad. All this 'can't be unseen' and 'i literally through up' crap is way overboard. Has everyone let their wife post on their MGo account today?
Wow, calm down sparky...
Gary Moeller did and even she's stomached it better than most.
the pic from the fake Kevin Ware account?
on a news replay and just immediately closed my eyes. Thanks to everyone for not posting graphic pictures here! But yes, similar to Fitz's injury and he'll be up and about in no time, with good prognosis for recovery.
Best of luck to that young man for a quick and full recovery.

According to me a cold laser is a non-surgical treatment tool used by a licensed physician to help relieve knee pain caused from a knee injury, degeneration, arthritis knee pain, tendonitis of the knee. Individuals who suffer from chronic knee pain can benefit tremendously from treatments. The therapy is unique in that it enables patients to experience knee pain relief without knee surgery, medications or knee injections. Unlike pain medications and knee injections cold laser therapy treatments are considered non-invasive,do not cause any harmful side effects, and are completely painless.
