I just got done following up with Amara Darboh when he made kind of a funny request: get him a nickname. He was known primarily as simply "AD" for the last two years of his high school career and wants something fresh. Where better to go than the most creative message board on the internet. What say you?
Give Amara a Nickname
"The TD Refugee" cause he survived and came here as a refugee
If you want to go with a Star Wars theme he could be known as
ADTD, a scoring machine!
The Eternal Warrior
I like this one the best although I think his name is pretty awesome the way it is. I was thinking Arboh, as in Ann Arboh.
If it was a hockey team we'd call him Darby or Darbsy. I doubt he'd go for that.
The most perfect nickname I've ever heard. I've tried to use it as team names as much as possible, but using it on a player? Incredible.
Stop calling me unit 91 radio
While I respect that it's his request, a name like Amara Darboh needs to be used. It is a great name. The only thing I would add is that it needs to be first and last name every time.
or just AmBoh
How about Amara 'Action' Darboh. As in: Lights. Amara. Action!
Tss The sick, the sick the sick fuckin puppies, barkin up your tree..... tss
(probably no one but "no joke its hoke" will get this, but I promise he gets it)
that's Amara!(sing to Dean Martin's "Amore")
It would be a great crowd singalong after the Victors.
I'd sing that
if he earned that attention, then it would be an awesome crown sing-a-long
The crowd could sing "When the moon hits the sky like a big pizza pie, that's AMARA!!!
"That's Amara" Darboh, very Chris Bermanesque
That's awesome. i hope he becomes that good! i would definitely go for that.
How bout Amara "1st Michigan receiver to lead the league for 4 straight years" Darboh ? ? ?
I was working on Annos Domini but Latin and football make for an odd mix.
Casting my vote for Amara "All Day" Darboh
"All Day" was my idea too.
To be used on any catches that kill the morale of the other team. Darboh kind of reminds me of harbringer and harbringer of death, and well, yeah...
How about simply ....AD....Seemed to work well for AC...
That's what I said lol. Amara Cadabra is definitely the best one so far though.
Brandon's probably already trademarked it.
If he is as fast as he looks, something simple like "C" might be interesting as he almost reaches that speed on a few plays, or with great deference to an old video game, there is "Sonic" or "Sonic Darboh". "A-Boh" would sound OK too, I think.
If youre going there then SR-71
We'll call him Bling, after Sierra Leone's long diamond heritage. Make some lemonade from lemons.
kind of an awful thing to be reminded of constantly
Here come D-Boh
D-Boh has potential, especially with Tebow mania in full gear.
we can start a tradition of Dee-boh-ing after each TD...
Was just going to post D-Boh!
"that's my bike punk"
Man, my grandmamma gave me that chain.
What you got on Dee-Boh's touchdown punk!
I just can't wait until he lays someone out with an incredible block and I can say "YOU GOT KNOCKED THE F*** OUT!"
Slaaaaaam-Daaaaar-Bohhhhhh! would sound good when he scores
A buddy of mine was nicknamed King Badass, but I think he would be willing to share.
The Iowan Diamond
Sugar Shane. For example Sugar Shane Morris drops back, sends it deep and is caught for a TD by Amara "coffee" Darboh. Nothing goes better than sugar with coffee.
Funny you mentioned Sugar Shane. I don't think Amara is the only one I've talked to who wants a different nickname.
So what you're saying is we're probably going to have to think up some new nicknames in the future? I'm game.
I take it Shane doesn't like Sugar Shane. I don't blame him.
I'm pretty sure that's racist
Darboh is the best part of waking up
It's almost as good as seeing a guy you hated in high school, trying to sell you a time share.
D-boh was first inclination, but since taken, how about
Let me write a little more on my thinking behind this. This kid is going to be catching a lot of big passes during his days in the Maize and Blue. I figure quite a few of them will be daggers that will break the will of our opponent to fight back against us. That was my thinking. I know it sound simple, but there was more thought to it than it seems. I just wanted to give you all a chance to think about it.
Of the others, I do like Pass Mack a lot. Don't know if it rolls of the tongue, but it's pretty good.
Dar-Boh Schembechler! You all can thank me later.
That's a high honor nickname.
I kind of like Darth-Bo myself
I've got better...
Or the "Stealth Boh-mer"
Amara was a refugee from Sierra Leone. The second language (traditional) after English is Krio.
Tried finding something meaningful that still sounded cool for a WR.
"Pasmak" - means exceed, beyond, limit
Americanize it to "Pass Mack"
Not to diminsih the efforts of others but Stealth Boh-mer was so well thought out, along with the likes of dagger, dart, etc. You can be such a clown!
I would go with Paradise. That is (one of) the meaning of Amara.
like a flashy reciever nickname. I dig it.
She gave me a lap dance at deja vu Ypsi. She was a little skanky. 6.5 out of 10
Amara "The Boa" Darboh
Boa is simple & is also a kick-ass animal that inspires fear. I'll think some more, but this is by far the best one yet.
Slowly but surely choking/squeezing the life out of opponents and devouring them.
a feathery thing Liza Minella drapes on her shoulder...nah. I was going to add a picture but I didn't want to scare the little kids reading MGoBlog.
given to Sam McGuffie by my friends, but alas he was never able to live up to it.
The Vikings have Purple Jesus, but we have Maize Moses.
Darboh The Flow
* inhales big toke
How about Captain Amar-ika!
*exhales coughing profusely
I think it will be hard to come up with a good nickname based on his name alone ... much like 'Shoelace' & 'Megatron', we might be able to come up with a more suitable name later on as we become more familiar with his personality & play style. which, by the way, I can't wait for! seems like a great person & player.
ps 'Boa' is still the best suggestion based on name alone (credit: Blue Since Birth)
Am Darbor, MI
I actually think his name is awesome and he should roll with it. But of all the suggestions so far, I like
Amtrak. Destination: Morris to Endzone. Its late.
My favorites from you fellow posters
1. Maize Moses
3. Pass Mack
Not necessarily in that order.
After reading the we thread, I'm most impressed by All Day. If All Day doesn't want it, I'll take it. It will mean something very different though.
DarBOh is a tremendous michigan name
nothing creative to offer. i like Boa and Ammo the best so far. im thinking it will be easier once he starts playing and Does something notable
D-boh so far
We call everyone that came from Iowa " CORN"
Or how bout...
"Rocky Darboha", "aPod", or take another transformer, say "Bumble Bee"
I agree with the sentiment that his name is already pretty unique and cool. In fact, if he gets good enough, he could be one of those players who only needs to be referred to by his first name, and everyone knows who it is (Denard, Isiah, etc.)
That said, how about A-Dar?
The 1969 Michigan vs. Ohio State game is on BTN right now. Bo's first Game resulted in a 24-12 victory over what Woody later called his best team ever.
It started at 8:30, but only one drive has been completed so far.
I would think the guys on team 133 will find a suitable nickname for him, but I like D-Boh
we have shoelace, maybe we call him velcro, for his hands, not the way he ties his shoes.
AD......... all day amara darboh
about Chris Berman giving him one for the next few years.
I forwarded these six to Amara:
1. "All Day"
4. Amara Cadabra
5. The Boa
6. The Freetown Flyer
You could always suggest "Buster McThunderstick"
as long as he doesn't mind sharing the name with my penis.
He should be good for about 10-15 TDs per year.
How about waiting until he actually plays, or unitl his teamates get to know him a little. Then let the name come.
...I give you The Darboh Connection.
I put forth the following potential nicknames:
3) Darbo (obviously not snake related)
Dar-Bro foshoo. Chill as fuck
