said that Miller rolled out threw a 5-yard out and then dropped to the ground.  As he stayed there through 1 or 2 more practice plays (?!) guys on the team got progressively more worried.

Weird.

As for how big of a blow this is to OSU, you gotta be kidding me.  New RB, new o-line, new back 7 on defense and now a red-shirt freshman QB who last played as a junior in HS?

So what’s the best guess on ohio’s record this year now? Keep in mind Braxton was a true freshman and came into a complete mess and didn’t even play the whole season when they went 6-6.  JT Barrett has at least been on campus a year and urban can probably let the kid just run around and mitigate some of the damage.  I’m saying they still go 9-3 with worst case scenario being losses to MSU, Michigan and someone silly.  I still fear they could be in Indy though which terrifies me.

Here's to hoping that we never have to face him again.

In 2001, Tressel beat us in his first game because our future first pick in the draft got $17 million to be a shitty baseball player instead.  His replacement pretty much singlehandedly lost the game for us.  It was a 6 point contest where we were -4 on turnovers.  They got 17 points off of turnovers, plus another two points on a bad snap where the QB wasn't looking for the ball.

In 2004, our starting redshirt sophomore QB went down with an injury in the week leading up to the first game.  We started a talented true freshman but he was still a freshman

In 2005, Jake Long and Mike Hart were way less than 100% for The Game.  I don't remember if Long even played.

In 2007, Mike Hart and Chad Henne were barely functional

In 2009, we were without our most valuable offensive player (Molk), along with our top two tailbacks -- Minor and Brown..

In 2012, our starting QB got hurt and we were playing a new QB in his fourth start.

My reaction is -- fucking finally.  I hope that we win a 4-point game where the opposing QB throws 4 interceptions and the game ends as Ohio State reaches our 1 yard line.  I want the Buckeye nation to experience the pain of losing a game because of a critical injury at a position with no depth.

It doesn't really make sense for him to redshirt and come back.  He returned this year to improve his stock as an NFL QB.  Based on the arm issues, that isn't happening--and it seemed unlikely to begin with, given the general lack of accuracy on his throws downfield.  Time to pick a new position and start preparing to play that in the pros.  If he works at that all year, this could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for his pro career.  Furthermore, if he misses the entire year and ohio moves on with Barnett or Jones, and gets decent play from either, it would be fairly awkward for him to come back.

Blake Countess, Troy Woolfolk, Jake Ryan, Chad Henne, Denard Robinson, Ondre Pipkins, Mike Hart, Jake Long.  I'm sure I missed someone in there.  While each of those guys had varying levels of importance, we have had so many seasons ruined by injuries to key players in the last decade so we all know how it feels.

Yeah, I don't really feel too bad. I don't root for injuries, but the kid still has a future in the NFL. He'll be fine.

Meanwhile, I don't feel bad at all for their fans. Ohio has cheated, lied, etc their way into one of the best coaches in the nation and a 24 game win streak. It's about damn time they've had some bad luck.

This reminds me of Drew Henson. Potential heisman QB returning for his senior year and boom, he's gone. I know that wasn't injury related, but same results.

Feel bad for the kid.  A tough injury, and hopefully he can recover.  If there is a (minor) silver lining, he can either come back for another year or go pro, and if he went pro he wasn't going to be considered as a Qb anyway, so hopefully this injury won't affect his draft position much at all.

Beyond the obvious aspect of a player's future earning power being put in jeopardy (which I would never wish on anyone), what sucks the worst about this is, I thought OSU was overrated/absolutely beatable coming into this season...and this gives they're fanbase a copout if their season goes awry.

A lot of things would have had to fall in place for them this year to truly live up to a "top 5" billing - not in win total (we know the B1G is bad & their schedule being lightweight), but actual team quality. They played 2 good teams last year, lost both. Was a 2pt conversion away from ending the season on a 3-game losing streak...and they lost a few of their best players from THAT team. That preseason ranking was purely off prestige/Urban nuthugging by media.

when the school didn't come out with more upbeat information earlier today.

OSU always finds a way to win. And they have plenty of guys who can play and now will be asked to step-up. You knock down their hopes a little bit but until they play themselves into a hole, their fans will be pushing their bandwagon with the same energy as they always do.

Their season will now get a lot more interesting from the opener against Navy. Look for the staff to feature Wilson and others to compensate for Millers absence.

Apparently he had to be convinced to come back this year, and I doubt his family is wealthy given that he's from Huber Heights.  Hopefully he can recover and make it to the NFL in one role or the other...Also, better to play your opponent at full strength.

Even though he's a suckeye, he's a good kid.  Too bad.

I think for sure they lose to MSU.  We will make it a game but I think it's up in the air now.  They will have a great D-line and they have 11 games to get the new QB ready.

The other game I see them losing now is Virgina Tech.  They are ranked just outside top 25, at least by Athlon.  They can't be too far behind in the other polls.  And, this will be their 2nd game...tough one for a redshirt frosh.

AND, Cincinnati is no slouch at #44.  I think the D will win that game for them, but look for it to be a struggle.

First, I am sorry to hear this.  Unlike some Buckeyes this guy has never done much to roil the fanbase and you never want to see a kid injured.  I didnt have high hopes for him in the draft because he does not strike me as someone who will play QB - he seems very much in the same boat as Denard in terms of having to transition to a new position in the NFL to get a chance.  I think he would be a late draft pick with or without this situation but it is very unfortunate for him.

To your question on another MGo story before these injuries I wrote this is a very young OSU team and young teams tend to make errors, have less room to absorb that error, and dont play particulary well on the road.  At the time I wrote they had 2 elite units DL and QB - and everything else is very untested although surely full of 4/5 stars.  The OL went from a team strength to a great unknown.  So this leaves their DL as their only elite unit.  Their offense is now very young and/or untested - the WRs are young, the RBs are young, the QB is young, and the OL is a mix of young and old but not battle tested.  The back 7 lost its 2 best players last year etc.

I said with a tougher schedule they could be losing 3-4 games with Braxton but the schedule was very favorable.  I still don't see more than 3-4 losses but this opens up @PSU and UM as better odds.  I still dont believe in VA Tech.  I had @MSU as a loss with Braxton since MSU's DL will be superior to OSU's OL and MSU will be amped up big time as its a night game and they will bring out the "lack of respect card".  This injury opens up a "mid level" road loss as well i.e. @Minnesota or @Maryland.  Navy should also be more tricky as its the first game.

Unfort this takes down one of MSU's few rough games of the year - they had all 3 tough games at home and this makes the OSU one easier.  Narduzzi will make a first year QB look dumb.

Well this sucks for him and hopefully he recovers well. I feel for him, but not Ohio State, I hate them and I don't care about any bad things that happen to them.

I'd like to wish Braxton Miller a speedy recovery as well - I want to play people at full strength so that the games are great.

The injury should only affect them for the first month or so, really. This means that Navy is going to give them hell for the entire game and could even pull the upset, but I think OSU's talent will shine through, regardless of quarterback. The real test will be the home opener against VaTech. Bud Foster will be licking his chops to get his defense on a green quarterback.

As it pertains to us, by the time we faceoff, they're going to have a season's worth of experience already and should have the majority of kinks worked out. As long as we do the same then it should still be a battle.

You never want to see talented players like Miller who have a future in the pro's have this happen to them.  But I'm going to go against the prevailing opinion here and say he should come back next year IF he wants to play QB at the next level AND he can totally rehab his shoulder back to 100%.  If he goes to the NFL after this year, he will be drafted very low and lose a ton of money relative to what he would get if he came back next year and had a good year.  However, if say, by next spring he was doing well enough where he could make a great showing during the pre-draft workouts, that might make a big difference where someone would want to draft him higher (like the 2nd round).

ESPN mentioned that all the assistant pressers as well as player interviews were cancelled today and that there would be no direct media access to the team as well, which might be standard in such a situation but also seems rather ominous in a way, especially now they are indeed reporting that he is out for the season. I assume the MRI is all they needed to see - from scattered reports of what happened in the non-contact drill he was in, it seemed pretty bad. Hopefully, Miller has a speedy recovery.
