Gil Brandt says Cutcliffe turned Michigan down

Submitted by flashOverride on

Per Twitter.

If I recall, he was also all about Schiano to Michigan a few days ago. So, yeah.

I have met Coach Cutliffe. He is a Southern Brady Hoke. His objective is to build Duke to a Stanford like relevance the right way. My impression is he's happy here because there isn't a lot of pressure, and he can take a long term approach. Knew his answer would be no. Also, given Michigan's definition of ideal candidates, I am not surprised they asked if he is interested. Shows the search firm is doing diligence. Meanwhile, hey everybody look at my hand waving in the Southeast over this way ...

If I remember correctly, he turned down Tennessee in 2010 despite having been the OC there at one point in his life, so you would have to wonder why he would even consider Michigan, where he has zero ties essentially, if he turned down his former employer. Clearly, he is quite content with his current situation, but I am not at all surprised he was part of the initial net cast by the search firm.

Yes, we use the term "Michigan" and "Search Firm" synonymously, but they are not necessarily at this point in the process.

Michigan has given the search firm parameters to work with, and then the search firm goes out on its own and does it's due diligence in contacting coaches that meet the criteria and gauging interest.

Michigan's only involvement at this point was to provide the general criteria to the search firm.

It's only later in the pocess where both sides "wink" at each other that Michigan per se gets involved.

With all the important vital stats as well.

He will then create a Decision Analysis spreadsheet with weighted criteria and a metricized score - accurate to two decimal places - that rates each girl and evaluates her against the weighted criteria.  The results are summed to an aggregate total and the winning girl is contacted to guage interest.

If she's still available by this time.

No way Michigan would have flat out offered Cutcliffe the job so soon. Maybe they asked if he would be interested, but no way they offered him the job.

This deserves a MgoFuckGil

I don't like the term "turned down". He may not be interested in the job, but this implies that he was offered the job and turned it down. I doubt this was the case.

If anything, Gil Brandt is being fed intentionally false information. Why would he have the lowdown on anything between two colleges?

Gil Brandt has long been one of the biggest windbags in football. He talks to anyone who calls himself a reporter. And he hasn't been connected in years.

Everybody knows that all Michigan has to do is lift its skirt just past the ankle and the target will kneel in supplication immediately in blind eternal devotion.

At least now we can trim the bs reporters down, in no way could of UM offer Cutcliffe before at least half a dozen other names. If he's not interested, that's fine by me.

All smoke to JH right? /s. Michigan is surely pulling out all stops to seem like they are in desperate need for JH to save the entire AD. Basketball has joined the efforts as well.
