Gholston Suspended by Big 10
"A momentary loss of composure." 6 personal fouls, hitting Denard late 3 times and knocking him out of the game, trying to twist his head off while he's laying under a pile, taking someone down with an arm bar, and throwing a punch is NOT a "momentary loss of composure." Dantonio is a totally classless hypocrite. A 1 game suspension for the crap Gholston pulled is a JOKE considering the suspensions that have been handed down for actions that weren't anywhere near as bad.
I think we're all assuming that a football coach, in this case Dantonio, wants to be a molder of young men because that has always been the standard at Michigan. Every Michigan coach in his own way has stated that part of his charge as the football coach is to help these young men become responsible, mature adults.
But I don't think Dantonio feels that's part of his job description. If one of his players gets in trouble, he seems to grudgingly deal with it. He is not proactive in his attempts to help his players grow as young men. And that's the difference between him and other coaches. I don't think we can expect more than that. It just isn't there.
The punch is automatic. It'd be nice if the helmet twist got something, but it was never going to. The other stuff just happens. So we can shelve talking about it...till next year.
Oh, and Gameday...they can talk about it all day long.
"I love him, he's a great coach, he's a great mentor, he's a great friend. He's every single thing you want a college coach to be, and he does it flawlessly." -David Molk
What bothers me about the mixed reactions regarding Gholston(and Rush)'s actions is that we have a very specific standard that we can compare this kind of play to: Conboy/Tropp's attack on Steve Kampfer. The Kampfer incident was a clear attempt to cause injury by at least Tropp, and both offending players were booted from the MSU team as a result of that incident. Here, we have 3 actions of Gholston showing the intent to injury, where two of those actions (the punch and helmet twist) occurred after the whistle and one of those actions (the helmet twist) was premeditated. For those of you readers that think the one-game suspension is either adequate or as much as can be reasonably asked, ask yourself how you felt after watching Kampfer get suckerpunched in the back of the head followed by a slash to the neck. And that was in a game that Michigan was winning handily against MSU, meaning this issue is entirely score-independent.
Michigan's offensive style requires more players that have greater interactions with the Higgs field.
Automatic ya say? Someone got lucky this year.

we crush ohio state even if we lose every game left on the schedual BUT ohio...GO BLUE*
