The Gholston attack on Denard

Submitted by Indiana Blue on

I was at the game and could not see the attempt to break Denard's neck. Just back home and this was the single worst behavior I have ever seen on a football field. This was a deliberate attempt to injure a defenseless player that was on the ground. This incident needs to be shown to EVERY coach in college football and then the B1G and the NCAA need to let Gholston know that he is permanently banned from playing college football. The NFL would ban him for this behavior - intentionally attacking a defenseless player with the sole intent of injury (or worse) as Denard could have been permanently injured.

I pray that ESPN and B1G Network take the lead by showing the replay over and over so that every college football coach and fan knows exactly what Gholston did.

In today's case, though, it should really be a 2-game suspension -- at least -- since there were two different incidents: the punch and the twist. Each, taken individually, would earn a 1-game suspension. Gholston's gonna go down for 2.

right, I don't see how anyone could argue that the next twist should at least be a three-game suspension. The risk of injury on that play is so high. And the big thing to me is it wasn't in the heat of moment. That really makes you wonder why isn't this going to occur again. Personal fouls that are during fights or during plays are if not understandable, at least explainable. This one was not even close to such cases.

I mean, just look at the quote from MSU's defensive coordinator after the game.
"It was 60 minutes of unnecessary roughness and that what we tried to achieve." - Pat Narduzzi

It was bad, but come on. The Sorgi incident was bad too. And what about Fairley trying to cleat a helpless player. There have been equal/worse things

I can understand if the refs didn't see the helmet twist, but the punch was so blatant. I don't remember a player taking a swing in front of the refs and being allowed to finish the game.

Can't remember the guys name right now but a Wisconsin players tried to tear Breaston's ACL. Nothing happened to him, not even a flag. The tv annoubcers even called him out. No, I'm not getting my hopes up on this one either.

on plays like this, how do you "prove" what happend? Did Breaston jerk, try and kick Kamoku, did Kamoku just jerk but not pull on the leg? The only way this is acted on is if Steve Breaston actually tore up his knee. But Gholston!? Denard can't fake twisting his helmet with his mind, and Lewan didn't magically attract a closed fist. These were slow, deliberate, after-the-play, actions.

Can anyone get a gif of this or a video? I really want to show some people that just think I'm pissed about the loss, when I say State is a bunch of bush-league trash.

I'm sick to my stomach that mark Dantonio encourages this kind of blatant brutality. You know god damn well he told his team , if you can even call them a team to hurt this kid. I hope somebody steps up and puts an end to this idiots season. There is no excuse for actions like that.

the more this looks a "trained technique". He tries to have his body hide what he's doing ... which only means that Gholston probably has used this technique previously. Hmmm ... wonder who taught him? I don't think this is even legal in MMA.

I can't believe no player or ref saw that. If I were Taylor Lewan and I saw that shit happen, standing right there, I would go apeshit and not stop beating Gholston's face in until every last Spartan fan was pulling me off him. God damnit I'm angry and just getting angrier as time passes from the game, not less so.

Unbelievable... people do that in movies to kill people execution style... It was a late hit in the first place, then he deliberately did it... The Spartan piece of shit fan base is proud of it too...

Here's a quote from their board on Spartanmag.com

"I love that Gholston did what I've wanted to do to a Wolverine several times. And Oh, yeah, I'm not a football player, so it is completely inappropriate for me to bunch a dbag in the face. Gholston did it to a guy with a helmet on and pads. Gholston just endeared himself in my heart. You guys stay on top of your high horse and tell me how the view is."

This is followed by a bunch of similar quotes and discussions.... Thats now how I'll have to view their team and fanbase, a bunch of classless idiots....

What they don't get is that for MSU to become a 'great program' they should want to avoid this type of stuff. The team was good and didn't need to play like they did. Until that happens, which it won't under Dantonio, they will not have my respect. It's more than just the result on the field, it's how you get there.

One more thing for you guys to check. After the break, Gholston came back in and nearly horse collared Denard. But a few plays after that Denard was scrambling and his head snapped backward as he went down. Looked to me like an MSU player grabbed the top of his helmet and facemasked him, but I might've seen it wrong. It was a no call.

I was at the game and quite frankly appauled by msu and their play. I saw both of gholston's actions that were dirty however i did not see the one by bullough, #44. Can someone explain to me what happened?

it was hard to see everything at the game but in general the state fans found amusement in the injury of Denard which is pathetic. Also the taunting at the end of the game made me want to throw up. Michigan showed class in stepping off the field to give them their time to celebrate, while instead they go over to the tunnel and hold up the number 4. They have the bragging rights, but can also show some class as well.

Yeah, Michigan fans never cheered when Stanton was hurt the year he was tearing you a new one...BTW, Staton is still is still a pro QB, how many years will Denard play QB in the pros?

is amaizing that happened. I was at the game and admit was not able to see or just missed what had happened. Now I see why there were so many personal fouls. I'm surprised that the goon wasn't ejected for his actions.

should be out for a few games. If I was Hoke, I would double team his ass next year and beat the hell out of him on every play regarless of the direction.

You know, there are posters in this thread who think a coach who intetionally intends to hurt a player should be suspended for a least a year, right?
