Get to know the Freshmen

Submitted by StephenRKass on

Mgoblue again has a fluff feature entitled "Get to Know the 2012 Freshmen."  (LINK:  http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/080612aab.html.)

Highlighted today are Freshmen Jeremy Clark, Blake Bars, and Drake Johnson. Like last year, I assume they will continue this feature on a regular basis. There are snippets of personal interest attached to each of them, and a link to bio info.

On a completely different note, ESPN has up an article on Urban Meyer and a shift in his values, supposedly now balancing home and work (better than when at Florida.) (LINK:  http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/8239451/ohio-state-coach-urban-meyer-new-commitment-balancing-work-family-life.) Personally, this article hits home, because I too often have not spent enough time with my wife and children. A good reminder for moms and dads to keep priorities in place.

I once ate a burrito too fast and assumed/told everyone I was having a heart attack.

I also thought I might like to spend more time with my family, but then I realized they are annoying as fuck most of the time.  Major postal holidays only from now on!

The Urban Meyer work-life question is an interesting one. If he really has found a balance, will he be as successful without being so involved. And if he isn't, does he go back to his old ways and burn out again? It'll be an interesting situation to watch.

suddenly discovered life balance.  Coaching in a ridiculous pressure cooker like Ohio does not lend itself well to A) having a life outside of football, B) maintaining a high standard of ethics, and C) achieving a vibrant level of health.

Two things:

1. Bars and Johnson both look like they just got out of bed.

2. Is it just me or does Clark look like he has a lazy eye in that picture?  Optical illusion or reality?

"Person in history I'd most like to meet ... Either Socrates or Plato, I feel as though the wisdom they could bestow upon someone is priceless"

I like to hear things like this - it really is Michigan when  your team has incoming freshmen that already are apparently  familiar with ancient Greek philosophers. Further, he listed his favorite book as Aldous Huxley's "Brave  New World", which is a personal favorite of mine actually, so I'll give him props for that. As revealed at various points on  the board, we have an artist, a budding chef, now a Huxley fan...and they will be playing Michigan football. Just another way this team stands out.

I really like what I have seen from Drake since I started watching his highlight videos these last few months. I've never seen the kid play in person but he looks pretty impressive. I could definitely see him possibly becoming a Mike Cox type. He will be a big play boy.

After growing up in A2 and living there for 14 year, I can say that Drake Johnson is clearly a typical kid from Ann Arbor, Michigan with those answers. Hats off to him.
