THE GERG
After reading this and some other Michigan blogs, I was expecting to see a 3-4 base today, but it looked to be all 4-3.
We seemed to be using 4 down lineman (2 DEs and 2 DTs) the entire scrimmage. I didn't really see much evidence of the hybrid D, spinners, deathbacks if you will, etc. Are they holding this stuff back or something? Sometimes I got the feeling they were using this to strictly showcase the offense.

Between basically completely changing things up on the defensive side of the ball and not going full speed (both the first and second defense looked tentative [unwilling to injure]), it was definitely an offensive showcase today.
It will be interesting to see what happens against Western, they aren't half bad on the offensive side of the ball. I'm looking forward to our defense stepping up and knocking off some heads with a vengeance this year.

Actually, I thought I saw one "DE" in a two-point stance on every play. My eye is untrained. I could be wrong. Anyway, in case I'm not wrong, I was calling that guy the spinner--secretly, the deathbacker.

the full defense today. didn't see the full offense either. it was all vanilla today as is to be expected from a spring game.
Oh they played out of the 3-4 a bit. It was more like a 5-2 with the hybrids on the ends. They also played a lot of nickel. Was an interesting scrimmage, but definitely better than last years in terms of personnel and execution. Still a lot of work to do but I think we should see some improved results this season.
How bout the Coner? Good stuff right there.
As much as i love the Coner... that might be a stretch. He should stick to what he does best: rapping.
