Our defense made a few plays, but Purdue sucks so much ass it can't be described without the word "cluster".  (Italic portion borrowed from Jeff Foxworthy)

the end of the clip is him getting smashed by the train right? there's a longer gap between the DEAL WITH IT and the smash than the gap between the smash and the next frame. .gifonomics, though I'm way worse so this is by no means anything other than constructive

I am a glass half full kinda guy with this team and RR in general, but I agree that the defensive improvement was as much the result of Purdue having .05 quarterbacks as it was anything connected to GERG.  Sometimes players succeed in spite of the coach.  I hope GERG isn't retained based on this performance against the worst offense I have seen since Michigan 2008.

Purdue's offense was probably a bigger factor, but the D gave up zero touchdowns and got one of their own.  We have up over 30 points to UMASS earlier this year guys.

Please don't hype up Greg because of today. Purdues offense was horrid. For example, the first two plays in the game Purdue players ran into each other. Greg should be gone at the end of the season no matter what. The numbers don't lie.

I totally understand what your saying.Im just saying peole jump to Greg defense every time the D shows up to play. Im just getting sick of people defending him. If you look at the stats, he is a terrible coach on D. Every time he goes to a school that defense drops in rankings and every time he leaves the Defense rankings go up. Thats a proven fact and ill post the numbers to prove it. Greg left syracuse and they were the 108th ranked defense when he left. Their D coordinator who we fired to get Greg , scott schafer, has them at i believe at the 13th ranked D. It happens at every school with him. I know our D is young and that is a huge problem but people act like Michiigan has never had a young D before ever in the history of Michigan. That is no reason for a MICHIGAN D to be close to dead last in the NCAA. I am not harping on Michigans D whatsoever. I think they are doing ok with what they have. I just do not like Greg at all. His schemes or his coaching and I get annoyed when people try defending him.

This is something called "humor."  When I made the pokemon .gif I was not literally claiming that Carlos Brown fits in a small white and red ball.  When I made the Final Fantasy .gif I was not serious that Turner opted for burritos instead of practice.  Stop looking for things to bitch about, take a step back, and just say MICHHHHH.

Im not bitching. Im ecstatic that Michigan won a game as sloppy as that. Im not trying to take my frustration out on you, I just get annoyed when people defend Grob. ---If I see another player leave his feet to make a tackle when the player is five yards away i swear i will kick a dog. That comes down to a coach coaching fundamentals so I'm sorry if I thought you were defending him...Friends?(im sticking my hand out to shake)

yeah there are people on this board that continue to defend him and blame it on the youth whcih the youth is part of the problem but it is still no excuse to have a Michigann D be at the bottom statistically of every Defense stat. We got beat on the same damn play three times against illinois for christs sake

So we have an offense that tends to self destruct on any drive more than 5 plays, QB's who have no concept of ball security, special teams that are as bad as any M fan has seen, a D that has been the worst ever, and the cure all is to bring in a 3rd DC in 4 years. Brilliant.

Had anyone here in August suggested that Michigan would have been able to keep ANY TEAM without an offensive touchdown with:

Courtney Avery, Ray Vinopal and James Rogers

starting in the secondary, and Mike Martin and Jonas Mouton not playing, what would you have said to that person in response?

Anyone criticizing or nuancing today's defensive performance is a miserable human being. Enjoy the damn victory - any rational Michigan fan would have predicted 7-5 as a rational record after losing the secondary bodies it did. They now have 7-5 as a floor.

ENJOY THIS TEAM. GO BLUE. IF YOU WANT TO WHINE, GO YELL AT YOUR DOG.

For those who’ve played football on a pitch, where offsides involves a pass going to an offensive player who’s the person closest to the goalkeeper, today’s game was a reminder of an old adage that rainy weather can be a great equalizer when two mismatched teams meet.

In a relatively poor game for both teams’ offensive units, Michigan’s defensive unit played well in difficult weather conditions, and they deserve credit for that, especially because they were missing two important players. (Kudos to Obi Ezeh for a sack and eight solo tackles to lead the team, and to Adam Patterson for a sack, four solo tackles and leading the race to catch Cam Gordon on Cam’s 58-yard TD run with a recovered fumble.)

Before today, Purdue had been ranked 56th in total defense among FBS teams. They were giving up an average of 361 yards per game. Today, Purdue went up against the nation’s 5th ranked total offense which had been averaging close to 536 yards per game. Purdue’s defense allowed Michigan to accumulate 395 yards of total offense (34 yards more than Purdue's defense had been giving up, but 141 yards below Michigan’s average).

Michigan’s 114th-ranked defense had been allowing close to 454 yards per game, while Purdue’s 104th-ranked offense had been averaging about 310 yards per game. Michigan’s defense held Purdue’s offense to 256 yards (54 yards below their average, but almost 200 yards less than the Michigan defense had been allowing its opposition).

Today’s win may prove little more than that a Greg Robinson-coached defense can compete well in a heavy rainstorm on a sloppy field against a team ranked 104th in total offense among FBS teams, especially when that team is using a third-string quarterback who has a glove on his passing hand to protect a severely lacerated finger, and a fourth-string quarterback plays when the third stringer is used as a running back.
