According to Rivals, his last visit of any kind was an unofficial to Auburn in March, preceded by an unofficial to Georgia, visits to Junior Day at Florida State and Vanderbilt and Clemson. There are also visits to Penn State and North Carolina thrown in there too. If you go way back to last summer, he was visited by Hecklinski.

No visit to Ann Arbor is listed here though.

getting/not getting highly ranked recruits is literally the last thing i'm worried about in the harbaugh era

cash would be way down my list of reasons for going to uga.  athens is incredible.  amazing campus life, thousands of southern belles, nice weather, excellent program and facilities (plus once you get outside the top 25 or so rated academic schools and the truly unique alumni networks, the academics are all pretty comparable - obviously its all about how much you put in and what you want to get out of the experience).

uga, texas, ucla, etc - its tough to fault anyone for picking those schools, impossible to blame local kids for staying home in those situations

It may not be today, and it may not be tomorrow, but at what point do we get concerned that high profile players are not as excited to come to Michigan as we would expect?

I mean, with the unique situation that we have found ourselves in (an extremely successful NFL coach coming to be our HC), why has there not been a resounding wave of kids trying to commit?  Should I not be expecting a maximum influx of talent?

Probably don't need to worry. We should start getting some guys this month or next. Hoke didn't really do anything until April when he got his first 4 star recruit and he added Ben Braden in late March. We're supposed to get Peters this week so the ball is rolling in much the same way.

First, let me say I am not worried.

But second, comparing Harbaugh to Hoke and expectations of how early or what type of players we pull is not supposed to be relevant.  One was a MWC coach who nobody knew outside of the Michigan or San Diego areas - who had middling results.  The other is one of the most famous (and successful) coaches in the country.  There were expectations of a lot of kids ready to commit to him minutes after his presser if you read this board.

As Don would say the hype train on 5 stars throwing themselves off bridges to commit was obviously too high.  A guy like this who has never visited UM I dont care about.  Same for the class of 2015s who Harbaugh had a whole 3 weeks to work on.

If there are guys Harbaugh was working on for 12-18 months who were shunning him en masse than it's a different story but we are not in that situation nor do I expect it to be.  And of course the MGo response is "if they dont want to work for a coach like Harbaugh, then we dont want em!"

Anyhow it shows the reality out there - there ARE rock star coaches in CFB and there are very good guys (who are not rock star level) who run very good programs in football hotbeds.  Jim needs to work and will work and we'll get our fair share.

We recruited well last year off of a 7-6 record too. Alabama had 19 4 stars and 3 5 stars in Saban's first full class. Notre Dame still recruits well. Our record will ultimately move us into the top 3 but Harbaugh should still be able to get a top 10/5 class this year based off of telling kids about the Super Bowl which is something Meyer can't do.

Kids are visiting schools and making decisions a lot earlier than even when Saban took over at Bama last decade. It could be an extra year. Luckily Hoke could recruit, for all his other failings, so that will help alleviate some transition. But I wouldnt be surprised if we don't get any 5-star receuits for a couple of seasons.

If we start winning and the high level kids dont' come...that's when we start worrying.

Oh wait...in this scenario, we're winning with the kids we get.

So nevermind.

We start worrying if we continue to consistently not win...and if that happens, our biggest concern probably won't have much to do with missing out on Blank-Star Recruit X from 3 Years Ago.

our staff is coming in cold.  Yes there is 49 years of NFL experience among them but they haven't recruited in years in some cases.

coaches have spent years cultivating the relationships they've had with these kids.

Saban didnt' start flippng kids right out off the bat did he?  I can't remember.

Urban Meyer sniped kids from PSU while the Sandusky thing was going on.

I"m going to give JH the season to see the benefits, then I'll see if it translates in the recruiting arena. . .

Saban is also one of the best recruiters ever.  To pull in #1 rated classes year after year, no matter where you coach, is almost unheard of.  To freak out because Harbaugh isn't recruiting at Saban's level is absurd.  We're barely 3 months into his tenure, he has about 5 months until he coaches his 1st game here.  Good grief, some people need to relax.

I often long for the days when you had to pick up the Detroit News on the day after national signing day to find out who was coming to UM, and for many of the names on the list, it was the first you'd ever heard of them.

Now's it F5, F5, F5 ... dammit where is my good news!? F5, F5, F5 ...

These kids and their coaches have relationships with other schools and coaching staffs that go back years.  Our current staff has primarily been doing other things than recruiting and building relationships with HS coaches the last several years, namely coaching professional players.

Good players will come.  Coaches will develop them and get them prepared. Toughness and confidence will become part of of the culture again.  Wins will ensure.  It's probably just not going to happen nearly as fast as people want it to. I'll take it, though.  For the first time in years--probably since Bo--I feel like we have someone genuinely better than anyone else  at the helm, with the exceptions of a few like Saban or Meyer, and even then, I think JH will fair comparably.

Not saying Michigan has a real chance, but it would not shock me if he takes more visits and possibly switches his commitment (though likely to another SEC team).

Let's not forget that the Michigan that these kids remember hasn't been so great. The team just got a completely new coaching staff that looks pretty but on paper hasn't done anything at Michigan yet (aside from the playing days decades ago). Everyone keep calm. TBH, Michigan and the coaching staff are in a position that they have to prove to the highly sought after kids that this isn't another coaching regime with a lot of bark and no bite. The kids that are buying into harbaugh's staff, the program and the University of Michigan will come. It takes time. It's also only April. Just let it happen. Let the University of Michigan and their football program's direction speak for itself. Which I am so very sure that it will.

Hail! Hail!! to Michigan...
