[George Campbell decommits]

Submitted by jasgoblue on

This is a rumor on another site (I have no access to premium content). Mods, please delete if I'm out of line, I don't want to violate the site rules and I really agree with Brian's thoughts on how we need to treat commits / recruits / kids.

With that said, rumor is that a big 2015 commit is waivering. We may need to brace ourselves for a decommit. Hopefully, Michigan fans will keep their collective cool and not lose their shit.

I don't understand the point of these kids commiting early if they can just change their mind (i.e. their verbal "commitment" really means nothing at all). Kids are "commiting" earlier and earlier and they're just changing their minds more frequently. I'd really like to see an end put to this non-sense and either have some kind of a punishment for breaking a commitment or not allowing one until signing day.

To a certain extent this is us getting what we deserve for putting up with Borges's bullshit. Dave Brandon can call all the recruits he wants but if he's not going to get the right staff in place ASAP some of the kids will get the joke eventually. Hard to blame Campbell, frankly

It is people like you posting stuff like this about the coaches....FIRE EVERYBODY _ WE LOST A GAME  that kids read on social media and they start to think that Michigan is a tire fire so they decommit.  Most have no idea about how a simple pass route works yet post crap.  That is what it is too - crap.

I love this site but I'm getting so tired of all the negative bashing! If you think current players and recruits do not pay attention to our fan base reaction, specifically off this blog you are absolutely mistaken.

Think before you start venting is all I'm saying! It goes a long way.

Yes, because potential recruits--high-level recruits particularly--care a lot more about what some random "fans" say on 1 of 10 websites than they do about the actual play-calling on the field.

If I was Campbell or any other 5-star recruit with a legit chance to go in the first round of the NFL draft, the offensive play-calling and success of the program absolutely matters.  It matters to him for the same reason that college rankings matter to us.  The higher ranked the school/program, the better chance there is that the first job offer out of school will be a sought-after, lucrative offer.

Hoke can do whatever he wants with his coordinators while he's the coach; it's his program.  But I really hope he starts to take notice that the play on the field is having an impact on his recruiting successes.  In Year 4, he can't sell "Come be part of the renaissance of Michigan football."  If it's not happening by Y4, there's a chance it never happens under Hoke.

I mean.  Did you watch this year?  Michigan WAS a tire fire on offense, and we went 7-5 because of it.  I'm not saying fire Hoke or anyone else, but Borges is just awful man.  He lost us at least two games this year, and that could have been the difference between losing and keeping this kid.  Ask yourself this: would you rather play for Al Borges, or any one of another truly gifted OCs?  Because Campbell has his pick.

I've been pretty positive around here, and FIRE BORGES isn't exactly an outlier opinion, so not sure what you're getting so exercised about, like this is somehow my fault.

Yet another example of why verbal commits are dumb.  They should move the date for written LOI up to fall, when every other high school senior is deciding where to go to school, and stop reporting verbal commits.  Obviously you can't stop a kid from saying "I'm going here" but maybe we would stop talking about it (lol), and it would make signing day less of a way-too-late formality.

You know, you just might be on to something. I never got so riled until I started following recruiting. You can't get overly emotional about the decision making of teenagers, because it will drive you nuts. Verbal commitments have as much value as the signature that comes with them. None at all.

shows that a thread about a player we know (Lewan) rates 12 posts, and one about a teenager we don't know merits a triple digit post melt down. It will be better in the morning - Go Blue!

I actually clicked on this link to check a high school junior's twitter background.  Might be time for me to forget about recruiting for awhile and just get pumped for the bowl game against  K State.  Yes, I'm judging myself.

This is disappointing, but not shocking. Campbell was seen by many as a possible decommit almost from the time he committed. I'm hopeful he'll be back but we're fine either way.

We lose the top WR and likely the top RB in the 2015 class in the same week? We have all sorts of issues and the one thing we could point to and say was the recruiting was superb. Now this? This program right now is anything but fine in my eyes.

Just the other day in another thread I said "Michigan should probably be on alert with Campbell being in the backyard of an awakening juggernaut" only to be scoffed at by Mangus, lmao.

This was basically my point, though. Like I told dude, you would have to be naive to think that he wouldn't be re-evaluating things being from so far away with other programs flourishing around him (combined w/ the season we had). Wasn't about FSU in particular.
