Gee claims that the NCAA left campus last week

Submitted by Erik_in_Dayton on
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/football/ncaa/06/09/ohio-state-in… This would seem to contradict the assertion that NCAA investigators met with "Ellis" today, though I suppose they could have met with him in Columbus (or some other place) that wasn't on campus. Anyway, Gee's claim certainly contradicts my impression that the NCAA is hunting around OSU right now like a pack of hound dogs that smell a fox.......................... EDIT: At this time of night, I'll just make this an all-OSU update thread...... Two more issues, both in the same article: http://www.cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/2011/06/columbus_photographer_de… Talbott says that he hasn't been contacted by the NCAA, and Pryor's attorney says that the Talbott issue didn't come up when they questioned Pyror. These statements could both be incorrect, but it's worth noting that if true they make the Sports by Brooks statement regarding the NCAA having check copies seem unlikely......... Second issue: A witness told the Plain Dealer that he or she saw Pyror play golf with Talbott on Talbott's dime about six times, which would be an NCAA violation. Talbott denies this. He also denies having had the Ebay account with which he was supposedly selling OSU memorabilia. (Sorry for the odd formatting. I can't get this to post with spaces between lines.)

Remember, the NCAA doesn't really look for things it doesn't know about. The entire system is based on self-policing. They don't have the resources and the member schools don't want them snooping around. This isn't an OSU truth, it's an NCAA truth.

However, I fully expect them to ask to speak with Dohrmann and any other reporters involved to see what they know but couldn't print.

I think there's a misconception, not necessarily with you, that the NCAA are like federal attorneys and they just aren't.

If THE Ohio State University keeps fighting the NCAA when the NCAA knows they are both cheating and lying about it, the entire stonewall strategy could backfire severely.  I find it difficult to believe they are actually fooling anyone in the NCAA anymore.  I also find it difficult to believe that the NCAA hasn't had enough of the Scarlet Wall.

I know it's unrealistic to hope for the death penalty, but they could "reverse leverage" themselves into a very negative situation if they keep covering everything up.

Hasn;t Talbott denied everything? Good thing that he seems to have zero credibility. I did find SbB's claim about the check copies doubtful though.

Denying anything and everything when faced with a mountain of accusations isn't anything new, is it?  See: Weiner, Clinton, Peter's denial x 3, Cheaty McSweatervest, and Talbott.

This confirms my worst fears: the NCAA doesn't really want to reveal the level of corruption at Ohio State.

There was a movie a while ago called LA Confidential. The fictional story takes place in 1950s Los Angeles and Hollywood and is about police corruption that goes all the way up to the highest levels of the force. When the truth is finally discovered about one of the most decorated police captains, the district attorney and police chief together with one of the investigating detectives concoct a cover story in order to ensure the public remains unaware and continues to have confidence in its police department. That's where the story really ends.

That analogy has been in the back of my mind since the beginning of the OSU scandal. It makes me sick to my stomach.

Brewcityitalian asked us to list everything we knew for his friend who works for the NCAA. While I am hopeful that was enough to get them to broaden the scope of their investigation, it sure seems like they've kept it pretty narrow.

I guess we can be hopeful that continued press revelations will cause further actions. Who knows, both USC and Ed Martin took a horrendously long time to develop and come out. If various legal authorities look at aspects of this, maybe the NCAA comes back again and again.

are you a stroke victim?  Have you had serious brain damage?  A FRIEND THAT WORKS AT THE NCAA, NEEDS A LIST FROM RANDOM PEOPLE ON A MICHIGAN BLOG IN ORDER TO BROADEN THE SCOPE OF AN INVESTIGATION....seriously, I hope you're kidding and I am just missing the sarcasm.  Please tell me you are not being serious.

It's good that there is a big flaw in your analogy. The media is on the case and information is going public. even if the NCAA investigators are backing off, (and there's no actual reason to believe that they are) the media sure isn't. They smell blood.

I understand the analogy but keep in mind that it's 2011 and there are a ton of websites that lead info, pics, news, etc... it's hard to keep a lid on anything these days.  The NCAA has been pretty weak sauce in the past (see Cam Newton) but there is just so much evidence floating around in the public eye.. they can't act like it doesn't exist and expect anyone to believe them.

"Now even the NCAA command is under siege. We are hitting it from the north, east, south and west. We chase them here and they chase us there. But at the end we are the people who are laying siege to them. And it is not them who are besieging us."
