Gators to hire Kurt Roper(Duke OC) as OC

Florida is expected to hire Duke offensive coordinator Kurt Roper to the same position, with an announcement later this week, sources told ESPN.com.

No surprise that bigger schools are going after some of the Duke staff after their great season.

I'm kind of surprised an up and coming OC would go to Florida. Muschamp's on the hotseat, and there's no question in my mind that he holds the offense back. Brent Pease certainly wasn't running the same stuff at Florida as he was at Boise. Don't be surprised if Gator fans are wondering where the passing attack they saw at Duke is.

But what if Chris Peterson was the driving force behind Boise State's success and Pease's failure at Florida was because he was just riding the coattails and not actually a good OC? I don't see this as a no win situation for Roper. Sure, he could flame out at Florida and get canned with the rest. OR he could be the catalyst of a radically improved offense in a fertile recruiting ground and see his name thrown in the hat for some solid head coaching jobs, including Florida's if the defense relapses and Muschamp were to continue finding ways to lose games.

Defensive guru with no real intricate offensive knowledge, hires a guy to run Manball, realizes Manball isn't working, scraps everything and picks up an innovative guy with a fun, upbeat offense.

In defense of the anti-Muschamp argument, wasn't Florida's offense pretty awful since he got there? Seems like it took 2-3 seasons of everyone beating their head against the wall for them to make a change. (Not that we're necessarily light years better than that)
