its 2010 all over again.

Hell, I'm surprised he lasted this long.. If I was a recruit, I would've decommitted weeks ago.

to the university of michigan, he commited to the university of brady hoke.

[Laughs] There's no basement during the DB regime!

Wasn't he basically decommitted already?
I don't blame any of these kids for leaving now, but I also suspect that there might be a couple who return/flip when a new coach is brought in.
October 27th, 2014 at 1:38 PM ^
I mean, I'm 34, really skinny, and my eligibility is probably used up. But I'm still better than the alternative at this point.
October 27th, 2014 at 1:39 PM ^
than the can't miss recruits we lose, who by the way have missed by quite a bit.
October 27th, 2014 at 1:41 PM ^
We will probably see more of these before our new coach is hired. Keeping Alex Malzone will be key.

This was the impression I had of him all along. Average 3 star that for the ratings bump because he committed here.

He was already decommitted was he not? Eh cant get all worked up, bigger fish to fry than a DB with a shredded ACL. Good luck, hope you heal up quick, achieve your NFL dreams and never play Michigan ever.
October 27th, 2014 at 1:44 PM ^
So we're hearing the staff is telling recruits that thye still think their jobs are safe. Maybe that's a bad strategy to keep recruits, maybe they should tell them, "You should stay committed to UM, it's a great school with a great program history, and they're going to o everything they cn to get a set of competent coaches in here for you next year."

Depends who you get. If its a HC somewhere else in the NCAA that is one thing. If its a coordinator or a NFL guy they wont have recruits to bring over.
Granted Harbaugh on name recogntion alone could probably flip 5 kids in a week but another NFL guy like "generic Teryl Austin" type candidate wouldn't. Same for a "generic Tom Herman" type coordinator candidate.
But like someone else said (1) who cares - we screw up most of our 4/5 stars anyhow and (2) 1 good HC is worth 10 lost recruits.

Only thing that can save us now is a home run hire.

So, if Michigan does make a home run hire, should the new coach accept re-"commitments" from these kids? Also, we should all stop calling them "commits". They aren't committing to anything.
October 27th, 2014 at 2:02 PM ^
You can't blame these kids for not wanting their future ruined. Think about our current players for a second. If they had a great coach who really develops talent, how many of them would be great players with a possible NFL future? How many are there now? Look at how well Green has done so far. What about Morris?
As much as I love Michigan, there is NO WAY I would play under the current regime, especially if I had interest from big time programs. It's a business decision.
October 27th, 2014 at 2:51 PM ^
I'm not blaming these kids for making a decision now to leave, but it's still a decision they should be held to. Business decisions go well and they go poorly. Theoretically, hypothetically, what if, etc. they were to hire Jim Harbaugh, who has a track record of winning and would likely bring this program back quickly. It may cause kids who had the dream of attending Michigan, at some point, to reconsider. I would hope any new staff would tell them to keep looking elsewhere.
October 27th, 2014 at 2:08 PM ^
We could hire Jesus Christ and Garrett wouldnt come back.
He says Michigan will not be considered going forward. It is very VERY rare for decommits to re-commit. Almost never happens.
October 27th, 2014 at 1:50 PM ^
Taylor's gone, now you have to expect others will follow, starting with Chris Clark. That's the #6 DB and #2 TE respectively, and who knows who else will follow... We're in serious danger of losing a lot of high level players now.
October 27th, 2014 at 1:53 PM ^
Doesn't much matter as our current staff has been squandering their talent anyways.
October 27th, 2014 at 1:51 PM ^
Let's all get used to it. It's going to be a hard few months if you let this type of news get you down.
October 27th, 2014 at 1:53 PM ^
No DEs in this class, no CBs.
Nice.
October 27th, 2014 at 1:56 PM ^
Not sure why anyone would commit to this staff. Don't care if you're a lifelong M fan, this coaching staff is uniquely awful. We've seen more players regress than progress. It's actually amazing.
October 27th, 2014 at 2:00 PM ^
its raining. I guess they were right. How wet will you get before it stops? Maybe after a careful evaluation of this forecast we'll find out what stormy weather and water damage does to your best laid plans for future events. But you can't complain when what is forecast then happens. You just deal with it while waiting out the storm.
October 27th, 2014 at 2:04 PM ^
His talent would have been wasted here anyway.
October 27th, 2014 at 2:04 PM ^
I don't know why he decommitted. Hoke is such a good/nice person. Why wouldn't he want to play pattycake while his skills diminish like everyone else who has played for him?

We just have to hope that the new staff can piece together a decent class, and although this was supposed to be a small class, with the change over you can bet there will be some attrition so it could still end up being a normal sized class.
At this point does anyone even think Clark is a commit anymore either? We're barely hanging onto Webber and Cole by a thread it seems too. Once these kids commit to another school it's going to be very difficult to get them back, maybe 1 or two, but not all of them.
What happens on Saturdays is bad enough, this is just the last stick in the eye and I am prepared to lose every single one of these recruits, including Malzone. The problem is that the product we are selling these kids (Competing for Championships, excellence, Leaders and Best) does not match the product they see on the field (Ineptitude, reuilding, tire fire). You get the right staff in and they are going to have to sell rebuilding, but selling rebuilding is a heck of a lot easier than selling what we have now.
