that you're outside in the cold rain while I'm laying in my warm, comfortable bed
Garage Sale Open Thread
I'm seriously considering throwing some junk from my basement in the driveway so that I can contribute to this thread. I'll keep you guys up to date with what happens with my half set of golf clubs and my moldy collection of Stephen King paperbacks. It could be epic.
The rain has subsided for the most part, although a chill wind reminds us that it once was here. The sky grows ever brighter as sun rise approaches. People remain in good spirits.
How bad is the line and parking? Thanks for posting for those of us who are debating going.
Right now it isn't too bad. Free parking all around next to Yost. But I'd come sooner rather than later, because it will get really long soon.
Can we get a link or some sort of explanation?
Got here at 6:30 about 70 people deep
got here at 5 30, probably 40 people in front. Tent people, stuff ain't that great...
Got here at around 9pm yesterday, 20th in line. People behind us don't stand a chance.
so your gonna be one of those guys that grabs everything then sorts it in the corner like some tool.
You know it!
Email me at [email protected] I will throw in some extra $$$ for you.
Dave Brandon just walked by.
Saw that. Almost chewed him out cause I thought he was cutting.
Dave Brandon just walked past me in line.
What a dick... /s
I need a Couple new blue shirts, im maized to the max. Cant make it this weekend. If any 3xl are available i will pay you 30 extra just for grabbing two for me. [email protected]
Probably thought of a way to charge all of you admission to this.
Would love a pair of game pants either m, l, or xl if someone can pick up a pair and not eBay the price.
a truckload of game pants! I got 2 pair and wearing one right now! Love em! They are from the UTL game because they have the old school adidas logo on the hip. I did'nt see your post til now or I would've got some extras!
Clearly, you and Homer Simpson are not of the same mind.
THEY HAVE TWIN CITY SOCKS! 5 FOR $5!!
On the used socks.
Got 5.... Very comfy, used or not!
Doing pretty well. I am inside about to watch the Brazil/Mexico Gold medal game. I went last year to the garage sale and got a game used football, some warm ups, and one of Zoltan's old jerseys.
Curious, what kind of lacrosse stuff did they have? Any helmets or gloves?
Just jerseys from what I saw.
you made it. remember last week discussing if there’d be anything good to justify driving the distance, from chicago wasn’t it? hope you scored bigtime.
Jerseys and some polo's... Also what looked to be some lacross gear bags.
A guy about 5 or 6 people in front of us at the checkout had two helmets.
I just had to have a damn surgery yesterday. Wish I was there so badly. I want a practice jersey and pants so bad.
Next year you better hide yo jerseys, hide yo pants and hide yo helmets because I'm be buying everything up in there.
Got there right around 9, the line was stretching almost to Yost, but it moved pretty quickly and I probably waited 15-20 minutes. Just missed out on some nice wood bats ($10 new!) and almost all the baseball jerseys but I got:
-Used composite fungo bat ($25)
-Size 50 gray baseball jersey ($20)
-Catcher's chest protector and shin guards ($10 each)
-John Engels (RHP) autographed baseball that I found lying around somewhere ($5)
-Five different short-sleeved t-shirts ($5 total)
The line to pay was a little crazy, but much worse after I got in line, at which point it stretched all the way around. Just one line this year, not separate ones for credit and cash. It moved pretty reasonably, though.
The funniest sight for me was guys carrying racks worth of football jerseys. Not that I blame them--they're cool--but it's just funny seeing people trying to carry that many jerseys around. I definitely had a good time at my second garage sale, and I'll try to make it out earlier next year for some of the better stuff.
At least one of those guys carrying racks of football jerseys has listed a bunch on eBay for $160 each. Nice that the Garage Sale provides a cheap source of products for people to try to flip and make a barrel of money.
Not to mention that they grab as many as they can carry, go sit on the floor and sort through them, as has been mentioned in this thread. I always go to these looking for fun stuff for myself and my friends, but with an event like this I guess you're always gonna get the profit-seeking asshat-type.
Got some jerseys im looking to sell there. #28, #38, #12, #73, #44 and 3 others i can't remember right now. Email me at [email protected] if interested. Looking for 150 but willing to negotiate lower.
People like you are the issue in this world.
God forbid i try to make some money to help pay for college...
Yeah, I'm sure you'll cover the cost of tuition with a few jerseys. Buying stuff just so you can gouge people (who could have gotten it cheaper at the garage sale themselves) is lame.
So how about 75 for people who didnt get to go? Is that more reasonable? I wasn't taking anything others didnt have a chance to get. Im fact i offered them to a couple kids first before buying them.
seriously.. go away!
The charity act you're claiming is disingenuous and weak. Bugger off
What, you don't believe that a "poor college student" would buy eight $50 jerseys? What kid looking to make ends meet wouldn't do that?
That a college kid would have 400 bucks to spend in the first place.
had 400.00 to spend once when I was a college student. 100 for each semester, 100 at christmas and another 100 I got between my birthday, thanksgiving and easter. ok, was it for the whole year, but did have it. just sayin.
first time poster. Created a user account just so I could agree with this poster--I'm not sure why this poster got marked for trolling. Honestly the people at this event with the garbage bags of 30 jerseys just to flip it on eBay or on here are ridiculous. (same rant reserved for another post regarding sugarbowl/Dallas Bama game tickets for those flipping way above face value and discouraging good fans)
The jerseys are $50. If you weren't going to wear them or gift them for family and friends, why buy so many extras? There are other people behind in line that could've wanted it at an event geared towards Michigan fans. Not really sure if the markup was really worth the extra buck. I mean I know we're not in communist Russia and I understand the whole "first come first serve" policy, but just some common courtesy ? we don't need to parasite off our own fans.
Apologize for the mini-rant. And It is not directly aimed at the gentleman above who I understand the markup for driving down and for the effort in selling to those unfortunate enough to live far away from the event. But really, the people who went to this event know what i'm talking about. There were people straight hoarding everything in sight with giant garbage bags. I'm fine with that, but only as long as it wasn't to make a quick buck at the expense of other loyal michigan fans.
How much did you pay for them?
These cost $50 at the sale. You are a piece of shit for buying these and denying other people who went a chance to get them, and then trying to sell them for 3 times what you paid.
I bought an 18 jersey, 38, and 5 jersey. I also bought gloves, wristbands, and some pants. Drove up from Illinois so thought I'd make it worth it.
Got #44 in white which happened to be my number and a size 48 (literally only one I found that wasn't a 42-46), two pairs of UTL pants (assume do because of the classic adidas logo not the modern one), a Michigan basketball polo from their Europe trip in 2010,UTL hat and five shirts for five bucks
This event was like a food drop in Ethiopia! Spirited fans furiously sorting through items to purchase. Everyone appeared to enjoy themselves. University staff on hand very jovial. Line was long but proceeded smoothly. Bought a few things to take back to VA. Football season on everyone's mind.
This is my first time posting. I was wondering, if they were selling any of the windshirts, with short sleeves, that Coach Hoke wears at practice? I have seen him wearing them at press conferences, Spring Game, and in The Wolverine mag. I was just wondering if they were selling any today at the garage sale. Thank you.
While waiting in line, I saw a man with a huge pile of jerseys on the ground in front of him. He began sorting them out, placing them into two piles. At first, I was confused, but then it became apparent when all the numbers in one pile (e.g. 28, 32, 19) were giving away what he was doing. In all, I counted seventeen jerseys in the "keeper" pile while another twenty-four were in the "non-keeper" pile. I hope the jerseys he bought will go to a better use than making a profit for himself.
Looking to buy a pair of utl pants if reasonable [email protected]
The guy from Belleville has one jersey up on ebay. He is a friend of mine and only bought like 4 jerseys for him to keep aside from the Ezeh. So dont be calling him one of those douche bags that puts up a million jerseys when he only has one up.
You can blame David Brandon for putting over 800 jerseys for sale last year and then over 8 racks of jerseys this year. And people can post all the jerseys they want, I bet you 75% of those will still be on ebay next year. There are jerseys on ebay that were obtained from the garage sale last year that are still on ebay.
can only make a profit if their purchases sell on ebay. Many of the jerseys were very small for an adult build.
There are people with over indulgance issues in every area of life. Just go to a Golden Corral and eat sometime. What the jersey hogs did yesterday at the garage sale is no different than grazing for hours at a buffet.
So you must know who this guy because you apparently saw him take and buy 100 jerseys from the garage sale. He got the jersey for his wife and the jersey didnt fit his wife so he had no use for it. He bought 4 jerseys to wear so its not like he bough 30, and yes if he wanted to buy a shit ton more he could have but he isnt one of those people. Maybe you shouldnt assume these fact because it makes you look like a douche. And names dont mean jack shit. Just take a look at ebay, you seem to look everyday and complain about how people post a million jerseys.
If you saw pictures of the garage sale you would have noticed that there were 8 full racks of jerseys and that there were plenty of jerseys for everybody.
I was just saying that everyone knows there is a huge market for Michigan stuff and when you sell over 1000 game and practice jerseys you know some are going up on ebay. I dont see you calling the two people assholes who won spring game jerseys through mgoblue and then quickly put them up on ebay to make a profit.
For the record, my friend lives in Chelsea and doesnt need to use the excuse of paying for gas and whatever you want to add to that.
Hahaha, you really think that the jerseys of good players with nameplates were obtained from the garage sale? It's called having connections and I would know because his friend hooked me up with jerseys also. Have you seen any decent players with nameplates on eBay? I didn't think so.
Yea I wish actual fans could get the items at the attended price but seems like the same old guy that was at toys r us an hour early to break open slu cases has switched to jerseys. Would much rather they auction these goods themselves and donate the proceeds to Mott than let the scampers get the profit.
If you happen to wear 4XL, you cleaned up at the garage sale
Bought two football home jerseys, a baseball jersey, shorts, and a hat. Wouldn't ever camp out for it but will definitely go again.
