Gameday Wakeup Open Thread

Submitted by BiSB on

Another Gameday is upon us. Let us drink and be, well, drunk. Reminders:

 • Michigan football plays at 3:30 today against Indiana. Known to the locals as the "Hoosiers," Indiana plays a 2-1-2 zone in addition to man coverage, and they shoot a high percentage from the field, based largely on their play from the big men inside. Michigan will need to get some good play from their point guards if they hope to pull the upset... wait, what's that you say? Football, eh? Oh. Never mind. Michigan by a lot.
 • Ryder Cup play continues this morning. The United States leads 2.5 to 1.5 after the first set of matches. America, #1. Love it or leave it. Stanzi loves him some Ryder Cup play.
 • Ohio State/Illinois and Minnesota/Northwestern (lol Minnesota) at noon, Wisconsin/Michigan State is your "hey, check the score of the other game during commercials" game at 3:30. Penn State/Iowa and Florida/Bama at 8:00.

Donkeys. Thoughts?

My hatred fro ESPN U. That shit is hard to find. I've called like 3 bars that don't have it. I'm starting to think it would be easier to get on a quick flight and get to the game.

What's a Hoosier? I Wiki'd it and still have no clue, but I did come across a nice example of hoosier family values. Courtesy of one, Robert Montgomery Knight.

Warning: Knight likes the F-word

Just opened up the sports page of the Det News and the headline reads, "Senior QB Ben Chappell ignites Indiana Offense." Today, we have to put a stop to our local newspapers leading with the other team's strengths, rather than our own. And we can do that by winning.

LET'S GO BLUE! Let's get the Big Ten win machine going!

is keeping him from flaunting his moobs. Losing to Europe is one thing; losing to Europe while displaying a chest that looks like it belongs on a 15 year old French girl living in the countryside is another matter altogether.

and can't decide which pathetic option to choose for today's game.

1) Find a bar somewhere in Macomb county that carries ESPNU and watch the game with complete (hopefully enthusiastic) strangers; then have wife meet me/pick up.

or

2) Listen to the game on the radio (enjoy the broadcast immensely) and follow along online intermittently with my MGoBlog friends.

Drinking will of course occur regardless of choice.

Anyone know of a bar in Sheby Twp, Macomb, Utica area that will certainly be showing the M game? If I stay home, my wife will interrupt the game often with mindless chatter. Help me!

Also who picked out the USA attire for the Ryder Cup? We should get negative points for that alone.

I'm gonna be walking around Indiana in the dang rain.

So, does rain disadvantage the passing game or the running game more (please say passing); what say you?

Throwing a wet ball is harder than handing a wet ball off. Or just letting your napalm-in-cleats Dilithium Back keep the ball and just, you know, run.

But I don't think it's supposed to rain during the game.

Enjoy!

ESPN U -channel 735 on Comcast, for me- so I'm good to go from home. It's raining here in Flint, sorta of putting a damper on things, but come gametime I'll be fine. My BGSU/UM torrent downloaded and I'm listening to it while I type. I'm prepping myself to go workout, and I'm thinking of what I'll be imbibing later, either some microbrewery fare or wine. Looking forward to another fantabulous offensive output today; I think we got to another level of understanding/execution of the offense; now I understand the 'tantrums' coach had on the sideline back in '08 concerning how we played then, definitely day and night difference. Read you all later, GO BLUE!!!

Clemson/Miami at noon and checking in on Minne/NW just for morbid curiosity. 3:30 its all maize and blue to the bitter end, with occasional look in's on the Sparties and probably more interest in LSU/Tenn if its close.

8pm its Florida/Alabama with look in's on PSU/Iowa and if I can find a way to stay awake Oregon/Stanford at 10

Love Saturday's in the fall

IIRC the Oregon v Stanford is on at 8 on ABC. That's what ESPN said so it could be wrong. But maybe you don't have to stay awake as long as you expected.

Edit: I checked the TV schedule and the Grand Rapids area is lucky enough to get the ND vs BC game on ABC. The Oregon vs Stanford game should be kicked over to ESPN2.

Hmm, I was going to do some personal scouting this morning, but video of Indiana football is incredibly hard to find. I will take this as an indicator that we will win by 30. Scouting report over.
