earlier this week it was mentioned that there are separate events being held at pioneer. they will start at noon. should still be at diag. someone correct me if I am wrong.

Yeah. I frantically called my fiancee (on campus) to clarify and she said that Gameday is setting up as we speak on the Diag and that they are doing a Heisman Tour at Pioneer. I changed my post accordingly.

An annarbor.com article from yesterday had some details on the Heisman Tour, including appearances by Desmond Howard and Lloyd Carr:
Howard, who will be honored for his 2010 induction into the College Football Hall of Fame during the Michigan-Notre Dame game on Saturday night (8 p.m., ESPN), will participate in an "SI Chalk Talk" session from 2 to 2:30 p.m. and sign autographs from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Carr, a 2011 College Football Hall of Fame inductee, will talk from 4:30 to 5 p.m. and sign autographs from 5 to 6 p.m.
It's part of a full weekend for Howard, who is part of the ESPN College GameDay crew that will broadcast live from Ingalls Mall from 9 a.m. to noon.
From 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Howard will be at the M Den at 303 South State Street signing autographed copies of the new book "I Wore 21: The Legend of Desmond Howard."
Note also that GameDay will be at Ingalls Mall, not on the Diag.

Believe this is their first time at Ingalls Mall. That's easily the best spot for it that I can think of.

Anyone know why they would have the Heisman tour at Pioneer as opposed to some place on campus? Is it a matter of space?

Camping out Friday night to be front row for gameday?

I'm genuinely curious about this - how do you pee?
I mean, you're going to be there for like at least 3 hours beforehand, and then during the entire show. I'm going to assume alcohol is involved because obviously. If you leave the front there's no way you'd get back.
It just sounds like torture.

Someone is going to Wright & Phillipis on Washtenaw for a catheter kit....
September 8th, 2011 at 2:46 PM ^
I was thinking of trying to get there at like 6. to basically sit on the ground and wait.
September 8th, 2011 at 1:12 PM ^
Is already up in the parking lot. No Hesiman, yet, obviously, but you can see where it will be right now.

pics?

I'll try to take some tomorrow or Saturday morning ifno one else does.

So, will they shut the Bell Tower down during Gameday, time it so they cut away to ads when it rings, or are the mics so good that the toll of the hours won't matter?
September 8th, 2011 at 4:25 PM ^
They managed to mute out the entire student section chanting "bull shit" for the first rain delay (and it did occur while broadcast was ongoing, mind you), so it's possible the mic's are good enough.
On an un-related (to StephenRKass) note, thread making has become incredibly sloppy as this season started. A lot worse than last year.

Here are some photos of the GameDay setup taking place near Rackham:

For nostalga buffs, here are some photos when ESPN was on campus for their TitleTown segment in July 2008 (Desmond Howard (wearing the Ivory shirt) was there as well

I will add a few to the photo group.

Pep rally tomorrow night at the diag also? I am confused
September 8th, 2011 at 3:41 PM ^
As I noted above, GameDay is setting up at Ingalls Mall--not on the Diag. The title of this thread needs to be changed.
September 8th, 2011 at 6:55 PM ^
The commotion was at Ingalls Mall, not the Diag. I was down there for a meeting today, and as I was running away from the rain, I looked left and saw it.

Could someone please explain what the Heisman Tour consists of? Is this something I'll want to take my 14 year old son to see?

This press release has some details. I think it would be worth it just to see the Heisman Trophy.
Also see my post above with info on the scheduled appearances by Desmond Howard and Lloyd Carr.
