Gameday for PSU?

Submitted by death_roh on
Looking at the college football schedule for week 8, the Michigan vs. PSU game is one of the best matchups. Not sure when ESPN announces where the gameday crew will be at, but I would guess our game has a very good shot. It would be great to be in the national spotlight this late in the season, considering last year.

As far as competition goes, it looks like the only game between two ranked opponents next weekend is the less-than-optimally-exciting TCU at BYU game. Plus, Gameday in Mormon country is a very scary thought. Then again, it is getting close to Halloween.

Not likely. It is well known that Fowler and company had a bad experience in Ann Arbor. They have publicly stated that Michigan was awful to deal with and a total pain in the ass. To add insult to injury, a few drunken fans kept throwing snow balls over the saftey net with one hitting Fowler right in the back of the head. they haven;t been back since.

There was no snow, but since I got there pretty early I talked to one of the security guards for a while. The entire time he bitched about the location the school had given them. (It was on the raised parking lot off of Main) I have also been to Gameday when it was at the golf course one year for ND, and that was pretty bad as well. So there might be some truth to the claim that Gameday just doesn't like coming the AA because there really is no good place that they can (are allowed) to set up.

...unverified. RE: 2007, all I found is this: http://blog.mlive.com/ann_arbor_news_extra/2007/11/beer_showers_jeering… However, this delightful nugget comes via the Oregonian: "Corso on why ESPN placed a net surrounding the stage during the show, which is barely noticeable on TV: 'When I picked Michigan to beat Michigan State in East Lansing a couple of years ago, they threw everything they could find at us. We didn't have a net then. They broke a camera. (Kirk) Herbstreit got hit by a snowball. They threw cans up there, beer, golf balls, everything. So the next week we said, 'We better put a net behind us.'" http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindducksbeat/2007/10/no_game_today_so_let…

Someone needs to tell that to Orson and LSU fans
Gameday itself felt like a fortified studio at LSU. Nets hung around the stage, and with good reason: LSU tailgaters are proud of noting that the reason the net is there in the first place is to counter any thrown objects like the ones Tiger fans bombarded Corso with when he picked against the Tigers in 1999.

IIRC, this happened when I when I was at M (1996-2000) and gameday has been back since a few times. I think that one time they moved away from the stadium a ways to try and avoid a repeat of this, but in 2007 they were located outside the stadium and did the final broadcasts from inside the big house. I think that M would have to be pretty cooperative to work that out.

The idiot segment of our fanbase gives these three crap every time they come here. They attack Fowler for having gone to Colorado, Corso for being bitter over the '79 IU game (it was the closest he ever came to beating us), and Herbstreit for having gone to OSU (even though he was 0-3-1 against us). In return, Fowler and Corso periodically take jabs at the city of Ann Arbor (though not necessarily our program). Herbstreit actually has remained pretty diplomatic through it all. If they do come here, let's act a little more intelligently. Most other places they go, fans are excited to see them. Then they come here and we throw things at them. It's embarassing.

I do know that they don't really like to travel much further West than Big 12 country because of the headaches involved with driving the trucks all over the country. So if they do want to stay closer to Bristol, Ann Arbor would seem to be the spot.

I think by default because they havent been up to big ten country in a while. I'd Love to see it happen. Northern football fans are way more educated and i enjoy watching Gameday when its up north i.e boston college this yr. It shows by there signs and chants. Southern school just boo and yell its kinda boring.

They hate going to the B10. Unless it's 2 highly ranked teams they would rather do 2 mediocre SEC schools than the B10.

I was at that game, and there was definitely not snow. It was cold and repulsively wet due to sleet and rain, but there was no snow falling falling, let alone on the ground to make snowballs with.

to say about it they'll be at UM/OSU this year (that's assuming that we win out to that point *which i feel is possible* and ohio st doesn't implode again)

If osu wins out they'll be in the rose bowl, but my money is on osu vs usc since osu has played the best against sc as of late. I think it would probably make for a good revenge story or something. Plus they're like 4-2 or something like that so they don't have a bad record
