Game-worn M Hockey Jerseys up for auction

Submitted by lhglrkwg on

Just a heads up, it looks like today the AD put up the auction for game-worn jerseys at this website:

http://jerseys.michigan-hockey.org/

Based on the jerseys available, it looks like each of the seniors get to keep one of their jerseys and the rest go up for auction (including every non-senior jersey).

I'm tempted to put in a bid for a Hunwick jersey, but I'd say my odds of getting one without dropping some serious money is slim

Prices on these things the last few years have gone straight through the roof.  Used to be if you put in one of the catch-all bids at a relatively low amount, you'd still get something.  Probably an oft-scratched or younger player, but it was a jersey.  Not so much anymore.

right now. I keep telling myself it's over so get over it but it's not working out so well. Especially with all the Hunwick talk lately. :(

Sorry if it's a stupid question, but would the composition of these jerseys affect removal of the numbers down the road? I was figuring on just buying the jersey closest to my size and then sending it to sportsK to have the numbers taken off the back, or will there be lingering traces of the removal?

It isn't worth it to buy a game worn jersey and take off the numbers.  What you should do instead is grab a jersey from the MDEN...the qualty is not that much worse and get it customized to what you want.  You can send it into Exclusive Pro Sports who do the jerseys for the hockey team and they can customize the jersey exactly like how the hockey team has.  You can do a nameplate also but have to wait until the player leaves school.

Honestly, if you want to buy a jersey to put your own number on it, buy a replica or something. I know it's cool to have an authentic, but the authentic numbering is a big part of it. There probably will be traces, but even if not why bother?

At a key point in my early 20s when I had lots of cash and a strong jersey collection (still have the collection, haven't bought any recently) I strategically put in a bid for a jersey that could simultaneously be purchased for a reasonable cost, fit my 6'5 frame, and look sharp enough to be worth the money; my 2004 Tim Cook Maize jersey still has a valued place in my wardrobe. And with what has happened to the Maize jerseys since, I'm glad I jumped on it.

It staes becasue of NCAA rules, but the names were on the football jerseys that were sold at the athletic sale last summer.

The names on the football jerseys were players that are no longer in school and graduated.  Some of the Adidas jerseys of current players had the nameplates removed so the school doesn't get in trouble.  I am sure that its an NCAA rule that schools are not allowed to sell jerseys of current players with names on the back to make money.   I don't know what the exact wording is but that would be my guess.

this is OT, but I was looking at some of my Michigan stuff and was curious about an old music box/jewelry case I have. It's made of beveled wood and has a photo of the 1898 team on the cover and plays "The Victors" when opened. An older gentleman gave it to me as an alumni and I'm curious if anyone has any idea what it might be worth.  I searched Ebay, but nothing; any info would be helpful.
