The Game: A TV and Streaming Record-breaker

Submitted by Spunky on

Despite the final score (and disappointing officiating), I really enjoyed The Game. Apparently, so did millions of others:

The [G]ame, which aired on ABC at noon, pulled in an overnight television rating of 10.4, the highest overnight rating for any game this season, and nearly 50% higher than the second-most-watched game of the season.

That 10.4 rating is the highest-ever recorded for a college football game that kicked off at noon on the east coast, according to ESPN. It is also the second-highest rated college football game ever aired on ABC, trailing only the 2006 Ohio State-Michigan game, when the teams were ranked Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.

In addition, [T]he [G]ame was ESPN's most-streamed, regular-season, college football game ever. According to the network, the stream on ESPN averaged 279,000 viewers per minute and reached 1.3 million unique viewers throughout the broadcast. This was the first regular-season game to ever surpass 1.0 million unique viewers.

Like Woodson and Eddie George, I'd love to witness this matchup at night. Although with these numbers, perhaps noon is just fine.

That includes the playoff committee. Everyone saw us get fucked over. We'll be in the playoff if Clemson or Washington lose and pen state wins.

Well if the world wide leader wants ratings I bet a rematch with OSU in a playoff game would be huge. Very doubtful it actually happens though.

Yep. Biggest shot we have for making the playoffs. At least it would be deserved. I will be watching the PAC12/ACC championship games with extreme intensity.

I don't believe that. OSU's botched fake punt occurred after the fumble near the goal, which Michigan scored 7. Also, the pick 6 resulted in Peppers returning the kick off to midfield and they scored a touchdown. It is not as easy as saying a 21 point swing and if one didn't occur, Michigan would have won. Maybe Michigan's touchdowns wouldn't have occurred.

you can't have a QB that allows a 21 point swing.

It's a 14-point swing actually (we got the ball right back after the fumble due to their fake punt) but I don't know why people put the pick-six all on Speight's shoulders. That was on the pass protection more than anything.  Standing deep in the endzone, he had to get rid of that ball because no one picked up the blitzer.

Is a top 4 Team, but it is a pipe dream to think they would make the CFP. If the selection commitee wanted to skip the conference champion and go to comparable games wins and losses. Michigan beat both Wisconsin, Penn St. and Colorado all playing in Conference Championship games. Comparing Ohio St. to Michigan.

Michigan Beat Penn St. easily, Wisconsin outplayed and beat in regulation, Colorado Beat Head to Head. Each of these teams are playing in their respective confernce championship games.

Ohio State struggled with Michigan State, lost to Penn St. and who is there next best win Nebraska that just got their ass kicked by Iowa. Michigan 2OT with bias officiating.

It won't happen, the CFP is supposed to include a team from each conference. 1. Winner of the conference, followed by the rest of the criteria. This should exclude Ohio State and Michigan, I would love to see another matchup, this will never happen. I will settle for watching Ohio State get their ass handed to them in a bowl game.

The season is not over. Go Blue!
