That was possibly the strangest game I've seen in a while.
Big Ten tournament is strange, period. I don't think it has ever really worked. The good teams don't really see the point in playing, the bubble teams trying harder but suck, so it is a combination of good teams that don't really care and bad teams that try hard but are still bad. The venues are shiny but sterile. It all adds up to just bad basketball. I want to care about it as a fan but it is really hard to watch at times.
Yes, this is a perfect description of the tournament. The top teams hate it, but the BIG loves it for the close games and the $$$.
all I wanted for Michigan was to get out of the first round to avoid an emabarring loss. The rest is gravy, but kinda meh gravy. Like out of a box gravy.
Although we survived with an embarrassing win.

So I was watching it online and the feed was at the lowest level (terrible/grainy) for the last few minutes until the last possesion...that was crystal clear. Whew!!!

the same thing that losing to Wisconsin in the BTT exposed last year - that the Big Ten tournament is really of absolutely no consequence. Winning is not really good. Losing is not all that bad. It is the bizarro-NCAA tournament.
I was referring less to the consequence of the outcome and more to the state of our interior defense.
knew that was bad. We are not all of the sudden going to be good at defense because it tourney time. We just missed shots. When we make shots, we are very good. When we don't make shots, we are not very good. We weren't very good today.
Unfortunately, it is characteristic for us to have a game like this at least once every six games. And we don't have the D to overcome it. It's going to be hard for this team to win 6 in a row against real competition.

Big-men foul trouble and that 2-3 zone made the game much harder than expected. Here's to hoping tomorrow's game is a tad easier.
