Game Atmosphere for M vs. MSU on Saturday

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on

I was just lamenting that I can't go to the game Saturday since I'm going to be away and realized that the students are on Spring Break. Does that mean no band and minimal student section for Saturdays matchup or do enough kids either stick around/come back to field the band and a legitimately intimidating Maize Rage? If ever we could use some home court advantage, Saturday would be it.

Also, if anyone wants my tickets, I'd sooner they go to an M fan. I donated them to this online auction so the proceeds go to a scholarship I support. Here's the link. Think bidding is only at $85 for the pair. http://www.biddingforgood.com/auction/item/Item.action?id=127264376

the replacement band does a pretty good job, actually.  the drum solo to wipeout is very good.  i seem to remember on previous spring break games there are plenty of students there, maybe not 100%, but at least the first 15 rows, which are really about 95% of the rowdiness anywho.

and the place will be rocking  While it has never been a really feared destination, Chrysler will rock at times, pre-Maize Rage days as well.  Go back and watch highlighs of Fab Five days, even Duke upset in 97.  It may be a little different than your typical game, but atmosphere won't be a problem.

I really hope that M fans snap up the tickets, so that they do not end up being picked up by MSU fans.  This game is huge - probably one of the biggest for our program in over a decade.  Win, and (1) we are likely in, and (2) sparty isn't.  This game also has some pretty big in-state implications.  We need every advantage we can get, so I really hope that Spring Break does not result in a large MSU contingent in the crowd.

The normal basketball band will probably not be there since it's spring break and I'm betting they can't make students come and play in the game. Also they may be gone for the women's Big Ten tourney. Maybe there'll be some sort of alumni band there. I doubt they'd let a game like that be without some sort of band music. And I'm guessing enough of the student section will be there, but probably more MSU fans than we would like.

I will be there in my "Queme los barcos, queme los sofas" shirt. Also, Saturday is my 27th birthday and truly all I want is this win. Go Blue!

on break, there's a group called the "Blue Rage" that fills out the student section.  I think for the PSU game there were a couple rows of students, the rest were us old timers.  There definitely wasn't a ton of energy in the group for that game, but I'm sure Saturday will be a different story.  I'll be doing my part

And yes, if Michigan has it wrapped up there WILL be a raucous NIT chant going on!

This isn't the first time that we have had an important game scheduled over a student break.  I'm sure it's tough to get games exactly where we need them, but MSU...over a break?  Not a great plan.  I guess the upside is that the student section is pretty small anyway (compared to my day (Fab 5 era)) and anyone going is likely to be fired up - student or otherwise.  As for me...I'll be screaming at my television.

I asked the guy who is on twitter @ummaizerage and he said a few have tickets but he wasn't optimistic about student turnout. As long as it's not like my heyday in the late Ellerbe era, then we should be ok. Back then it was upper bowl sparty vs a small handful of students. Tickets were only offered to faculty, students, alumni ticket holders. Not sure they made it to pulic sale this time which is obviously good!
