"The Game 2006 ...Remembered" on BTN

Submitted by BeatOSU52 on

Debuting right now from 9pm to 10pm.  Anyone watching?  I know it's incredibly painful, but I'm probably still going to watch it just because.  "The Tie" that debuted a few years ago was incredibly painful too I guess but it was still somewhat enjoyable to watch at the same time as one got to hear Ufer's wonderful call when Franklin marched in the endzone to make it an extra point away from a tie-ball game, and also got to learn Ohio St's Cornelius Greene was and still is a complete class-act.  This is going to be all pain, though.

It also is on at 3am to 4am tomorrow morning for those that want to set their DVRs.

I think it is pretty obvious he did some illegal stuff. That program was so desperate to beat UM, the compliance department and AD looked the other way for major stuff. They sold their souls to win football games. I'd say it bit them in the ass but, OSU being OSU, actually upgraded with Meyer. Only OSU. They need to go through what we did with RR and Hoke. See how fun it is when your team sucks and does not have a prayer to beat your rivals.

It's fucking hilarious that this delusion is still out there. Lloyd was completely exposed in that era.

Michigan won the turnover battle 3-0 in 2006. Do you know how difficult it is to lose when that happens? The chances are less than five percent. But hey, screw statistics that tell us that. Turnover advantage was no match for all the points their hook-ups at tatoo parlors and car dealerships were worth!

Ron English made a nice career (up until his infamous crash at EMU) on the basis of good timing (getting the DC position at Michigan right around the time a bunch of future next-level guys were maturing). Somehow the Appalachian State debacle got overlooked.

Coming up right after "The Game 2006-Remembered" will be a hour long highlight video titled "Denied Glory - highlights from Bo and the Rose Bowl"  Thrill to the exciting memories of:

  • Bo suffering a heart attack the night before his first Rose Bowl thereby distracting the entire team the next day
  • A torental downpour during a Rose Bowl for the first time in over 50 years making the field almost unplayable
  • Bo's best teams not even being allowed to go because of the Big 10's rule allowing only one team to play in a bowl each year and the ADs conspiring to send OSU when they tied.
  • Referees deciding that some field goal attemps in Columbus were just too damn high in the air and calling them "no good" even though they split the uprights
  • Referees deciding the 3 yard line was close enough and signalling TOUCHDOWN even the ball never even got close to breaking the plane of the endzone.
  • And best of all - watch Bo's last Rose Bowl where a non-existant holding call was made on a player not even in the game to wipe out a successfull fake punt that wouldn've been a brilliant and game changing play.

That show will be fun to watch too.

We've been in a mourning phase for these ten years. The Team has been playing scared for these ten years. It's time to face our demons as both a fan base and for the players and to put the past behind us all.

Go blue. Beat Ohio

I read this on rivals I think, someone was saying something about a new field and Michigan would have trouble slipping around. Sure enough the next day there was a new sod field.

Hand in hand. I travel the country and everyone has the same impression re: Ohio. They don't care because that's is how their parent's raised them. Sad commentary on life.

I mean, I was there. The two weeks surrounding that game, from the week before through the game itself through the week after with everything for Bo... It was real enough the first time not to really want to "remember" it through BTN's lens.

The late hit call on Crable was total bullshit. Smith was in the process of throwing the ball and was not going out of bounds. Troy Smith said as much in the show. Without that shit call, I think we win that game.

talks extensively about this on the show. He says it's bullshit to blame Crable. He pointed out that the defense gave up several big plays, which it hadn't done all year. If it hadn't done that, the Crable hit is a non-issue.

The show was really well done. I hated that we lost that game, but it was still easily one of the best editions of the Game I've ever seen.
