Gallon to Pats

Pick 244.

I think Gallon to the Pats was the prediction I saw most on this board, so good job mgobloggers!  Can't wait for a Brady-to-Gallon TD.

Not to mention that Gallon was the only WR drafted by the Pats, so he's gonna get a lot of snaps as a rookie. I think Gallon has a good chance of being a huge steal

Being drafted by the right team is far more important long term. Than being drafted in the first rounds.

Gallon probably dropped this far because the Patriots were confident he'd be available.  He's their kind of guy, but not the sort that can fit into any team.  Gallon makes the most of his ability but his size is definitely a limitation; he's a small target.  Tom Brady, however, is a QB who can thread the needle in traffic.  Conversely, a hunted QB like Tom Brady needs a quick, "hot" read like Troy Brown, Wes Welker and now Jeremy Gallon.  Devin Gardner used Gallon for pretty much everything, but the play that stands out are those "hot" reads where the QB knows the cavalry's coming and needs to throw the ball to a guy who only needs a tenth of a second, can't be covered by a linebacker and has super glue on his hands.

My obvious bias for the guy aside, pretty smart pick by the Pats.

feel like this was the perfect fit for Gallon. In that offense with Brady at the helm, I think Gallon can be an immediate impact player. Two to three years from now, teams are going to be wishing they drafted him and the talking heads will be perplexed about how he wasn't drafted earlier.

Was just going to say I am no expert in the Patriots depth chart for WR but when they played the Lions last year in preseason I was shocked what they gave Brady as choices - basically 2 rookies, one drafted and a UDFA and a bunch of journeyman from my memory.  It truly shows me how the greats make anyone look great while guys like Stafford (paid like Brady!) once Calvin is out hurt everyone on the field looks average.   Aside from Moss for a few years Brady has never had a premier WR - like Farve/Rodgers/Brees he basically takes whoever the team gives him and makes the top 2-3 guys look great.

Manning is an exception as he had 2 top flight WRs in Indy and a few in Denver.

Not saying this as a homer but I truly think he will be a poor man's Welker and be very productive with Tom.

BecausE Welker is a pretty phenom player.  It is no offense to be a "poor man's great player", especially as a 5'7 WR.  I could have said poor man's Steve Smith as well - another great (shorter) player and he'd still be a very good NFL player.

Projecting a guy to be a top 15 NFL WR out of the 7th round is a bit homer-y.

Phenomenal opportunity for Jeremy.   He is ideal for New England's no huddle especially as Tom Brady's signature capability is being able to accurately through open the middle of the field and hitting the seam.  POssibly no one better in the history of football at doing the later (it really is amazing he lasted until the sixth round seeing as how being able to make an accurate seam throw is the definition of being a great quarterback....but I digress).

Jeremy is one of the best route runners in college football.  He will thrive in the slot and most likely have a career comparable if not better than Wes Welker.  Congrats to him and Pats nation!

I am so so so so so excited for him! He must be thrilled! I am looking forward to hearing "Touchdown Gallon!" during the few Pats games I get to watch here in metro Detroit.

After running a faster 40 time than expected I am surprised he still fell all the way to the 7th Round.  IMHO he's the best WR we've had since Braylon, edging out Avant and Manningham.

Excellent! Congrats to all the guys drafted or will sign FA deals. Hope they all kick A$$ in the NFL.

Is perfect for JG. 10 yd passes all way to the Super Bowl. Welker profited heavily from this. Gallon is such an upgrade over Danny. Thank god he went to the pats. Dude could really make a name for himself there.

Check out the scouting report from CBS Sports' draft grades:  "Gallon is a sure-handed, short-area-quick slot receiver who lacks toughness and speed"

Great job, guys.  Their report on Lewan was probably that he lacked a moustache finger tattoo.

was going to their linked full report page

Under strengths (among many): "Tough and durable."

And in their final summary:

Gallon looks and runs like a running back and is quicker than fast. Not the biggest or fastest, but is a crisp, clean route runner with usually-sure hands. He has savvy awareness and very good vision with the ball in his hands to create some separation and do something after the catch.

Gallon will be limited in the NFL due to his smallish frame and mediocre speed, but he is a tough, competitive football player who will find a niche at the next level as a No. 4 or 5 WR.

Guess the CBS guys don't talk to one another.

Despite the obvious issues with the team last year and that we had very few draft eligible players on the team. We still had 3 draft picks which stacks up well with most of the big ten teams. I'm looking forward to the days soon when we beat OSU for total draft picks. However, even in a down year we beat MSU.

"I'm looking forward to the days soon when we beat OSU for total draft picks. However, even in a down year we beat MSU."

I'd settle for the day we beat both of them on the field.  I do think the MSU draft results further illustrate that the Big 10 is so down that it doesn't take a world of individual talent to do very well in the conference if the coaching and development are happening at a high level.

Some of the fans excuse our struggles because our overall talent level has yet to match the Bamas and FSUs of the world, but the fact is we have all the talent we need to beat anyone in the Big 10.  If we have the right staff for the job, at some point we're going to run out of excuses.  When other programs can consistently do more with less, that's a bad sign.

Not trying to be a pessimist, either - this may well be the year that everything falls into place.

nfl network, anything, I had my kids in the bathtub when he was drafted and would've loved to see if they broke him down....or did they go straight to the Sam gay pride parade?
