BCS honcho Bill Hancock just said that the BCS oversight committee (presidents) will vacate 2004 USC title if appeal fails.

So no soup for Auburn.

Enlighten me... is this a credible source?  I have yet to see this supported by another source - if it's true, I would not be surprised.  It seems fair - no winner/just vacant.

...that Hancock said that. I assume he got it first hand in an interview or media availability. I agree that until it shows up in an article we should take a wait and see attitude. There's no denying that Auburn got royally screwed that year, but a vacated national title does seem to make the most sense. For sure, USC should not be allowed to continue to claim it.
