It seems obvious enough, why didn't anybody see that coming?

I could never think of something like soup or a pencil.

I do not know, but that hopefully this will limit or cease any regressing of the linebacker play due to a coaching change.

i guess that means it isn't any of the names we were throwing around, who were all LB coaches.

I like this alot, now the question arises, who is the best and most available Safety Coach out there? Everyone that I have seen posted on here in the past few weeks were LB coaches (if I am not mistaken.) Does anyone have any good info?

I'm pretty happy about this - feel like GERG will be able to provide Mouton and Obi some stability and solid coaching. There's no reason they can't at least be functional next year.
Please, please just be functional next year...

His contract is up with Denver, and he's probably done in the NFL. I think that it would be great for our team if we could get an ex-Wolverine in there who's young and has solid NFL experience. That's the type of guy who can really recruit, and hopefully he's still fresh on the technical aspects of the game that could really help our guys develop into solid contributors in the secondary.

A great player doesn't equal a great coach. He has to pay his coaching dues before he can land a sweet coaching gig at Michigan.

*sigh*.. thanks for reminding me of that..

That's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Ty Law at Michigan? He was an All-American.

that image is imprinted into my mind..
thanks for the neg

... did I experience such an experience of utter pandemonium followed instantly by complete silence, and that was when I pulled the rip cord for my parachute the first time.
The name Ty Law, regardless of how great a player he was, will always bring back memories of that sad silence.

exactly..
he was a great player.. but the name still reminds me of that play.. Sorry for being honest I guess?

This was one of the single most depressing moments of my childhood.

And the possibility didn't really cross my mind until RR mentioned it today.
Gerg can coach LBs, he's already proven it.

Rodriguez said that he MIGHT look for a safeties coach and have Robinson coach the linebackers. He also said that it's possible Robinson might only coach the ILBs.
What should we take away from this? Well...there's nothing to take away from it.

thats what I thought I read, didn't seem too certain of a statement

I would be absolutely fine with Gerg coaching the LBs ion addition to his Coordinating duties. He personally coached Stevie Brown last year, when Brown was turning in one of the best performances on the defensive side of the ball.

I don't think it matters what type of coach they bring in, so long as the level of play improves. Both groups need to make progress this fall, I'm in favor of whatever mix of coaches makes this happen.
