FWIW: Possible OSU sanctions

Submitted by whyyoumadtho on

I don't know this website and a friend sent this link to me, so I am taking this with a big grain of salt. But it's on the internet so it must be true right?

Basically the article says that OSU will be hit with the following:

  • All victories from the 2009 and 2010 season will be vacated
  • Will not be televised for the 2011 season
  • Will not be allowed to partake in post season bowl games for 2011 or 2012.
  • Will lose 10 scholarships in 2011, and 5 per year in 2012 and 2013.

Vacate the 2010 wins for sure--they were achieved knowingly using ineligible players.  That seems like a no-brainer.  But this wasn't a recruiting violation, does removing a ton of scholarships make sense?  Probation for three years.  Perhaps an institutional control inquiry given the history of the school's players getting improper benefits.  I would like to see them get hammered as much as anyone, but this litany of penalties is someone's fantasy.

is a goddamn liar.  The NCAA does not work quickly, and when they do, it's because they want to clear the air around Cam Newton before the BCS Championship game.

Let's use common sense here.  This whole story just broke a few weeks ago.  There is zero chance the NCAA would be prepared to issue any kind of sanctions right now.  It's far too early.  The investigation will likely take several months, and then OSU will impose its own sanctions (if any), and then the NCAA will take some time to determine whether or not those are appropriate and possibly add to them.

I would imagine that this whole saga won't be resolved for another year or so.

I understand the players lack of scruples on the their actions, but Tressel's story deserves more investigation. He should know better and he did, so he hid the evidence then lied about it. I do not think that the punishment is as heavy as outlined, but there should be some higher consequences.

Not being televised hurts the other schools just as much. Could you imagine a Michigan vs OSU game that is not televised? I call BS

The only way that happens is if the NCAA decides to go after them with the claw side of the hammer and actually find even more damning evidence (like 9th level of hell damning) than they alread have.

If anything that severe happens Tressell probably steps down before he gets fired.

I'm posting from a phone and didn't have time to read everything above but the website "Sportstales" also stated after the tat5 was docked 5 games back in December that their penalty would be reduced to only two games and Urban Meyer has already been hired as coach. It's simply a site that's banking on you to see the crazy stories to garner more hits to their website.
