He could've been a lot better at football. If Devin would have truly put in 100% he would likely be top 10 pick, maybe top 5 (raiders). Funchess has such great talent / potential that most experts still have him going top 25.

After watching 5'10 corners tackle him on quick passes, I realized that poor damn gardner was gonna suffer because his best wideout was a baby back bitch...

I don't hate many wolverines.  Funchess is about it right now...

Funchess reminds me a little of Clowney in the sense that they both shut down waiting to go to the NFL...

When Funchess gets to the Show and finally recieves some quality coaching he could become a star; he has size and speed that is rare even at the NFL level.

In the right situation I could see him being a star... which is good for him.

so he has that going for him.

love,

Half of the reactions on this board are very telling and these kids read this stuff just fyi. There is a pompous and arrogant faction of the Michigan fan base that would be best served to refrain from social media. Holier-than-thou judgemental individuals that likely never competed at anything athletically at a high level. Funchess didn't blown it up like we thought he would. I would've loved to have him back as a Senior. He was still by far our most talented footvall player last year and wilL be a 1st round draft pick hands down.

.. blows me away how many people feel it's some huge sin that a kid didn't try harder so the team they root for from their seat/sofa can win some football games.  Is it sad he maybe didn't make it a priority to maximize his potential, sure, but that makes it nothing more than simply disappointing.

Some people on here are treating him like he slept with their girlfriend or something.

He had the chance to get a FREE education to one of the top public universities in the country ... One that I had to bust my ass for - studying extra and working extra jobs to pay for it. Sorry, but I think I have a right to complain about a talented kid who didn't seem to give a shit when provided a golden opportunity.

I'm not defending people that rip college athletes for not living up to expectations.  But, your run of the mill NFL fanboy is probably 10X worse than what you're seeing here.  It's unfortunate but it's life for a talented athlete in a very popular sport like football.

I just came here to read the smae snarky replies.

Seems like every year, there is someone who underperforms pre-season expectations (either in reality or just based on perception) and that guy becomes the whipping boy for the year.  Two years ago it was Lewan, this year it was Funchess.  JT Floyd got some of it a couple years as well.

Funchess had an underwhelming year and there might have been some minor effort issues toward the end of the year.  But he's going to be a decent NFL player, or at least has the potential.  And if you look at his stats compared to everyone else on the team, you have to conclude that either every other WR gave even less effort or they all stunk to the nth degree.

Oh yeah ... Sorry for ripping on a guy who is probably going to make millions of dollars each season. Crazy to think we would want him to care about his college and teammates. Nice job getting butt hurt and protecting a soon to be pro athlete who simply didn't perform on the field and didn't seem to care about it.

Oh grow up.  I'm not protecting him; I'm voicing my opinion.  Apparently yours is to get bent out of shape becauase a guy is probably going to make millions of dollars playing football but, as a fan who I am fairly certain has no intimate connection to the team or the players, you feel he didn't give enough effort for his teammates.

Point to me examples of Funchess showing up teammates or undermining the University, beyond the usual exasperation you see on teams that are losing badly.  Funchess didn't have a great year, and sure he didn't put in 100% effort on every down.  That makes him like a decent number of NFL WRs, and while he may flame out, it won't be because he didn't feel like running full-speed with an injured ankle in a blowout where his HC didn't have a plan, his QB couldn't throw him the ball, and he was double or triple-covered.

Next time you are going to post some ham-fisted, reductive BS argument to an opinion, might want to hide your envy of a college kid a bit better.

It's a game. You guys need to get over yourselves.

The same people who say "if he would have tried, I wouldn't be mad" are the same people who trash Devin Gardner. Good grief.

Hope he does well in NFL. Sort of wish he was still at Michigan but as others have said his effort and attitude seemed off too frequently. Maybe he could have impacted the basketball team in a good way had he tried it, but we will never know now.

Ugh, ran a 4.70 forty. Means he's a smaller TE will never play WR in the NFL. I guess the times we were told he was running in practice were BS. People also said he was the fastest player on the team, if so that explains 5-7.

Really is a disaster for him.  Especially with all the drops he put on film this year.  I thought he'd be bigger than 6-4, 232 too, though he was closer to 6-5, 240.  No TE under 250 lbs was drafted last year.  When you sart to get into the TEs running 4.7 or slower you're talking about blocking TEs over 260 lbs who went in rounds 3-5.

No idea what round he falls to now.
