Fuck Cancer

Submitted by rockydude on

In a few minutes, I am driving my wife to see the room where they are goiing to give her radiation for colon cancer. It was kind of a surprise to us, we thought it was just some kind of blockage or something. Anyway, just a reminder - cherish the ones you love. And Fuck Cancer.

With a father who recovered from colon cancer (13 surgeries in 5 years later), I wish you both the best!

DO NOT be afraid to reach out to friends, family, and even local support groups to help out. The outpouring of support you will find will help you through the hard times.

Ditto, God Bless you and your wife, and hang in there even when it gets rough, hopefully it wont, just remember it will be over and this too shall pass for a better time.  Good thing you caught this now.

I am actually at the hospital right now...my wife just at 2 cancerous nodules removed from her lungs by a thoracic surgeon. Brutal procedure...they had to remove 4-5% of her upper left lobe. We need the nodules to see if the cancer has changed and to apply to other experimental trials. She had radiation last year...not fun, but it made a huge difference. Thoughts are with you and your wife.

My wife discovered she had stage 3 breast cancer when pregnant with our youngest daughter 4 years ago, had a partial lumpectomy, early c section, chemo, bilateral mastectomy, reconstructive surgery, hysterectomy...and was clear for about a year. Unfortunately, she developed a cough that turned out to be a small tumor in her lungs that had metastasized (becoming stage 4 breast cancer...in her lungs). We radiated the tumor, and joined an experimental PARP inhibitor trial for about a year. It worked great, but since it was not an FDA approved drug they kicked her off because there was growth. She then went on another type of chemo for 2 months, that held everything in check except one nodule in her lungs that grew 4x in size. We are exploring other trials at MD Anderson and some other hospitals in Cali (primarily immunotherapy trials). But her docs wanted to get the nasty nodule out, and wanted additional samples of the cancer to (1) see if it has changed, and (2) use it to apply to the trials. So yesterday she had about 5% of her upper left lobe removed and they removed the 2 nodules. On the positive, she only has one measurable nodule of breast cancer in her body (which they left for trial purposes)...but still has stage 4 cancer. But if you saw her on the street you would think she was any other hot soccer mom. Hopefully we will be checking out of the hospital within a few hours. Hopefully the docs for our OP's wife can nip this in the bud. Best of luck, and give us an update.

Sorry to hear that.  Good luck.  Hopefully you caught it early and the treatment will be relatively painless.

I could tell some colon jokes to cheer you up, but only with your permission.

Hope all goes well - my mom was diagnosed in 2012 with breast cancer, thankfully she's been given a clean bill of health for the past 2+ years.

Cancer can go fuck itself. Best of luck - hope your wife whips this motherfucker.

Definitely do all of those things.  My wife is home now after two recent stays in the hospital.  The bill from the first stay showed we owed $45,000.  We have insurance and the insurance company already paid 20,000.  I was not looking forward to the bill following the second, longer stay.  I wasn't going to tell my wife about it, but she heard me say "what the f*&@!" and asked me about it, so I told her.  An unexpected debt like that certainly wasn't going to help her health or mine.  It turns out the first bill was a mistake.  We actually owe only $800 on that bill.

My father, a Michigan alum and native, a man who was friends with Dennis Franklin and other former football players while he was a student, and the reason why I went to Michigan died from colon cancer a little over two months ago, a week before my birthday. He was 66. They caught it late and I've put off moving on with my life and advancing my career to help care for him. But ultimately it was for naught. I pray with every fiber of my being that your wife will be healed and recovers with minimal pain. And yes, FUCK cancer.

Please look into all things that help in addition to radiation - diet, natural options as well.  You can beat it.

My survivor wife and I will be thinking and praying for your both. As you know, this part is no fun, but your attitude makes all the difference. You can do this!

Cancer can choke on one.....that's for sure!

In regards to your personal situation, I pray that your wife makes a full recovery, that it is as painless and easy as possible, and that it further strengthens your bond, love, and family.
