FSU-Ole Miss open thread

Last game of the holiday weekend. *sigh* Also, Hugh Freeze will not be spending as much time with his family as he may have wanted. Maybe the NCAA will help free some time for him soon.

Does Michigan have enough of a vested interest in this game to actually want an SEC team to win? I'd have a hard time cheering for that, especially since no matter what we probably have to win the conference championship to get what we want.

Let ole miss win tonight. They will fall apart in due time. I want to reach the higher rankings asap with Houston getting a damn automatic birth with one good win all year.

I'd rather get Ole Miss out of the picture early since the winner of FSU and Clemson is most likely to represent the ACC in the playoff.

Death by cannibalization.

Tonight, go Noles.

A loss here for ole miss, as long as it's reasonably close, does nothing to hurt their chances. If they were to run the rest of their season to an 12-1 record (SEC CG) they would be in the playoff 100%. But, a loss here to the noles likely means they aren't good enough to do that, so....

I think it's way too early to know which specific games affect Michigan's hypothetical playoff case. But, for what it's worth, a big threat would be two teams from one conference boasting superior resumes if Michigan has one loss. The Wisconsin-LSU game was a huge help from that perspective. Wisconsin is more likely to burnish our resume if we beat them, and the chance of Bama and LSU both having playoff cases is sharply reduced. The other major pairing that could present this problem is FSU and Clemson. An FSU loss eliminates neither, but still weakens that overall case. OTOH Ole Miss losing is bad for the SEC, which is good for everyone else. Go Noles.

There's no SEC bump in the committee. Resumes are at issue. The loser of Clemson-FSU is still a very good team that may, depending upon what happens this year, have an excellent argument for the playoff. Of course there are many variables. Ole Miss and Auburn could both be something like 9-3, thus high quality wins for the ACC leaders, or they could have disaster sub-.500 years that make this weekends events irrelevant. The point is that they are both very good teams and could thus have a good argument.

Ole Miss represents everything that is worst about college football. It's too difficult to predict at this point which team losing would help Michigan more, so go FSU.
