FSU to hire Maryland OC Walt Bell
January 17th, 2018 at 10:34 AM ^
And Pep Hamilton is still employed. Incompetence
January 17th, 2018 at 11:11 AM ^
Those darn contracts are pesky!
January 17th, 2018 at 12:24 AM ^
Wow. Bell impressed me a great deal. Good hire for FSU, tough break for DJ Durkin.
January 17th, 2018 at 9:30 AM ^
If Durkin needs a new OC we currently have a pass game coordinator who could use a promotion...

behind Jedd.
January 17th, 2018 at 12:44 AM ^
He's a good dude. Seems very genuine. Excited for him in Tally and would love to see a home and home between the schools.
January 17th, 2018 at 10:51 AM ^
For the Florida State coach to be someone I respect and whose teams I enjoy watching. I dunno if he'll change how I perceive them or if they'll suck him into their vortex of awfulness.

It sounds like Fisch is being interviewed for the Atlanta Falcons QB coach, but if that doesn't work out I guess we could see a Durkin and Fisch reunion.
January 17th, 2018 at 10:29 AM ^
Yikes, would not want Fisch back on another team in the division. How about we give the Falcons Pep and we go get Jedd.
January 17th, 2018 at 5:18 AM ^
Nice of Willie to pluck away at a couple schools in the B1G East.
January 17th, 2018 at 4:45 PM ^
Now go get Coombs from OSU.
January 17th, 2018 at 6:48 AM ^
Where he had total control of the offense for a spot where he probably won’t have sole play calling duties. But he probably feels FSU is a better jumping off point to a head coaching job. Tough break for DJ.
January 17th, 2018 at 7:22 AM ^
He probably just wanted to escape the wrath of the QB hating football gods
January 17th, 2018 at 7:45 AM ^
He wasn’t really setting the world on fire. Maryland was 113th in offensive S&P+ this year and 86th last year. This year you can point to QB problems, last year was him putting in his system, which is a unique system. He is regarded as a great young mind, so it will be interesting to see what he can do with the talent at Florida State.

They absolutely wrecked Texas' defense. Their run game was killing it before Pigrome and Hill went down.
January 17th, 2018 at 10:13 AM ^
Similar to Brohm at Purdue, he was talent-limited, particularly after about eleventy billion QBs got hurt. But he has a really nice screen package and does some creative things to develop a quite explosive run game. It will be interesting to see what he does with much more talent.
January 17th, 2018 at 11:37 AM ^
Yep, guys like Akers will be scary in that offense. He already had some of the best RB numbers in the B1G with Maryland recruits.
January 17th, 2018 at 7:43 AM ^
I was hoping they woulda hired Art Bell
January 17th, 2018 at 9:57 AM ^
The plays he would call...

Taggart inherited a pretty good roster, already. And with the staff he's putting together, it looks like he intends to improve it quickly. FSU could be pretty scary in the next few years.
January 17th, 2018 at 8:39 AM ^
Agreed, it helps that I like Taggart, I won't mind seeing them win.
January 17th, 2018 at 9:35 AM ^
Durkin doesn't last past 4 years. It's late in the cycle for a bottom end of tier 2 program to find a good OC and they need one with such a young roster
January 17th, 2018 at 9:45 AM ^
Not sure predicting a coach who's already 10-15 while playing in arguably the toughest division in college football won't last more than 2 more years qualifies as a hot take...
January 17th, 2018 at 9:58 AM ^
has impressed the crap out of everyone here. At soccer matches and public meetings I see no tears from the faithful about Fisher.
January 17th, 2018 at 9:52 AM ^
He’s walking into an Urban like situation at FSU. Has a ton of talent already and should be able to hit the ground running.
January 17th, 2018 at 10:55 AM ^
If he can simplify their offense (which I heard was a huge problem with Jimbo's offense) and find a way to keep Blackmon upright, they're already title contenders next season. The defense will still be good and bring in 5 star after 5 star.
With the exception of Clemson, ND and Miami, FSU can pretty much out-talent everyone on its schedule next year. Assuming Taggart hits the ground running anyway.
January 17th, 2018 at 10:04 AM ^
The way that they ran Bowden out of town and then scumbag Jimbo with the Winston stuff is the reason why. Taggart will not do as well as people think and I could care less if he is linked with Harbaugh. Dan Mullen will pull the top talent to Gainesville out of the big three Florida schools. Richt hit his ceiling this past season as he will win 8-9 games a year just like he did in Athens.
January 17th, 2018 at 11:05 AM ^
That dude cut every corner under the sun but made sure to be filmed at church as much as possible.
January 17th, 2018 at 11:07 AM ^
FSU buildin somethin here
January 17th, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
Can't wait to see our offense click on all cylinders and all the Pep Hamilton critics change their tune...
