Frozen Four/NHL open thread

Submitted by Yostbound and Down on

Providence has advanced to the final.

BU- North Dakota is next on ESPN2.

Wings/Habs on FSD right now. Lots of other big matchups tonight in the NHL as well. Could the Pens miss the playoffs? Can the Kings squeak in?

ETA: Pens are off tonight but Sens and Bruins both have games that they could pass them in the standings.

I wanted Omaha to win, but I'll be pulling for Providence now. Hopefully they get their first title and BU/NoDak stays away from our record.

Gut feeling says BU 4-2

the worst in college hockey, imho. Very much want them to lose. I'll have a couple Anchor Liberty ale while i watch. By the way, since Larkin didnt jump to the minors, can we infer he will be back? Seems he passed on a dozen games available at the end of the minor season.

It still isn't 100% that he's back. He could go to the development camp that the Wings hold and the Wings could offer him a spot. He could also decide at that point to go to the AHL. He only missed a handful of games by not going yet. So I don't see it as meaning a whole lot. So we aren't out of the woods yet.

This is my first real interaction with them in person (besides what I see on TV and read), but I've always found them quite distasteful. My opinion of them hasn't changed and was possibly reinforced. Why in the hell do you need hockey cheerleaders/ice girls? I didn't know this existed until this because I don't think any of the B1G schools have them. Hockey East doesn't. Both NoDak and UNO had them. It was weird and why? NoDak fans are holding onto a nickname from yesteryear while wearing garrish Green jerseys that resemble St Patrick's Day gone wrong. Their team resembles that trashiness with their chippiness.

I know that NoDak got pissed at Rodriques for his spearing thing, but NoDak was doing that type of stuff every time a BU player skated by all game. It was a shitty move by Rodriques, but I didn't feel bad for NoDak at all. They had it coming to them.

Red Wings better win tonight. They still have one more game but I really miss the days of knowing two or more weeks ago that we had a playoff spot locked.

No chance that happens with Kevin Lowe.

I think a lot of teams want Babcock to coach but I doubt many are really going to do the "here, be everything" and give him the reins. No proof of success as a GM. Pittsburgh worries me because I'm sure he'd love to coach Crosby but the Leafs for example would never do that.

I hope the Sabres get McDavid, they are building something special if they get him. Pegula is a great owner and will spend the money to get the top free agents. If McDavid goes to buffalo, watch out for the sabres in a few years. Sabres lock up last place with 1 more loss, which guarantees them no worse than 2nd pick and 20% chance of 1st.

LOL at whoever considers this a neutral site game.

It's in the city of Boston. It's a BU home game.

Nothing against Calgary or LA, who are also chasing a spot, but it would be really cool to see the Jets in the playoffs.  Their last playoff game was against Detroit ... in 1996!

Even if Michigan made the tournament, Hyman still wouldn't have beat out Eichel for the Hobey.

It'd be interesting if someone with better stats skills than I figured out tournament performance vs. expectations / seeding. Seems like year in and year out North Dakota and Miami have been burning out early.

Sadly I bet Michigan would crack the top 5
