Friday Posbang - Independence Day Weekend

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

Can't help it, summer is here and so is the long weekend of great summer weather.   It is also our country's 240 anniversary on Monday - God bless the incredibly brave men and women who brought this country into being.

If you are up north you should come see the Blue Angels over in Traverse City:

I wonder how big of a federal offense it would be if we snuck on base and ever so slightly changed their paint job to winged helmet style?

I hope you will be with family and friends this weekend, outside enjoying our great state.

Whose got it better than us?

Be safe everyone - remember Jason Pierre-Paul from last year.

Gonna take in fireworks this year at a minor league baseball game.  Class A baseball is a much more fun experience than going to the Trop to watch the Rays.

Thank you for letting me borrow your holiday. It's a good excuse for me to drink all weekend.

We're headed up north in a few hours to spend a couple days at a friend's cabin up near Harrison, so while there is wi-fi, modding might be sporadic. It should be fun despite the burn bans up there, so I told the kids we will bury a flashlight and sit around the "fire", but hopefully we'll get some serious grilling done as well. As I can now drink again, even though they would rather I not get plastered, I can actually enjoy a beer with my burger for the first time in six months, so there is that.

Even when I was in college, I couldn't fathom being content with light beer or Budweiser, Miller, PBR, etc...any of those mass-produced beers. I actually would save up from my series of jobs that I held just so I could get my dad (and when I turned 21, myself) to buy better beer. Admittedly, I am a bit snobbish about beer, but for me it is about the experience and enjoyment. To that end, a six-pack of Witkerke and a six-pack of Fanziskaner Weissbier are sitting in the car right now, ready to go up there.

Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

Camping in the UP on Lake Michigan's shore with my dog and my brother. Hopefully everyone is going to traverse city or cabins and stays away from the little state forest campgrounds!

It is also our country's 240 anniversary on Monday

Ugh. I can't believe how old I am. I remember our country's 200th anniversary in 1976. I was living in Southern California and went to tour The Freedom Train as it made its stop in Anaheim (If I remember correctly). That was 40 years ago! Son of a bitch. I need a bang in the worst way possible.
