Friday Posbang + Happy MgoDeer Hunting

Submitted by XM - Mt 1822 on

Mates,

It is a great Friday with a nice covering of snow, and for a very large segment of the state's population up here, the eve of a virtual holy day - Rifle season for deer hunting starts tomorrow at 0-dark-hundred.   I am a bow hunter, but I am glad that people do love to rifle hunt.  For those that have never been, the fun and fellowship of deer camp are a treat, many a memory across generations of family and friends has been created this time of year.

Would love to have any MgoDeer Hunters share their plans for this year or favorite stories from past years.  Since our beloved Wolverines have a 'bye' this weekend, no excuse to get out of the woods tomorrow.

Hunt safely and have a great weekend.  Go blue!

have my own little deer paradise - usually shoot a couple every year without too much effort. Therefore, I'll avoid the circus and focus more on big, fat mallards this weekend.

Good luck to all the MgoHunters, and be safe!

looks like a good way to control the fly once it's in the water though... Also looks like a pain in the ass to tromp through the woods with.  Good luck on the ducks (and the fish).

Good luck to the hunter's this weekend.

Taking this afternoon off work to see Interstellar (space, bitches) and then we're celebrating my soon-to-be four year old's birthday tomorrow with my side of the family. Sugar Coma Me Now.

Oh. Also probably going to the hockey game tomorrow night.

Not a hunter, though I can appreciate the sport and wish all who do hunt the best.

Down here in southern Arizona there are deer ... but they are smaller and gray.  Get up in the higher elevations of Arizona and there's other deer and elk as well.

I have many fond memories of growing up in Michigan and hearing the sound of hunter gunfire in the distance.  Cool, crisp late autumn days in Michigan are the best.

One of my best friends and his brother are heading into the woods this weekend. They asked if I'd like to go, even just as a non-hunting, primarily beer-drinking observer. One of these years I suppose I need to, but I just couldn't make it work this time. Dinner and beers with Dad for his birthday tonight, and Sunday the lady and I will be at JLA to see the Wings and the Habs. Not bad for a bye week, I suppose.

Checks weather forecast here in San Diego... Sunny and 72 degrees.

Checks weather forecast in Michigan...cold, snowy, with high's in the mid 30's.

No deal.  :)  Actually, I really miss being back in Michigan, so I would take your deal.  I know people laugh at someone who complains about the weather in San Diego, but I actually miss having all 4 seasons.

Anyway, thanks for the bang, Mabel.  Cheers!

I've spent the better part of the past 3 weeks in a tree stand, 11-12 hours per day, with the occasional come-down for nature's call or driving to the next state over, or something.  I have a pretty nice 9-point and a doe to show for it so far.

I must admit, I left early today to come inside and warm up, and to get ready for tomorrow.  However, I did sit all day yesterday in the wind and snow, thereby simultaneously proving my manhood and stupidity.  Question: why have my manhood and stupidity so frequently gone hand-in-hand over the years?

Somehow, before I even clicked on your thread title, I just knew you started this thread (based on your handle and some of your prior posts).  At the risk of being nosy, what area/county do you hunt?

at home though, no state land and very grateful for that.  i will have a number of friends placed around the farm tomorrow, including one close friend who has just gotten into deer hunting who i have given the prime place to sit to hopefully bag his first deer.  he is a bird hunter extraordinaire, but deer is fairly new to him.

and kudos to you for your hunt.  please post pics.
