was exactly that? No work. The boss/employees had to actually do some real legwork to get ahold of you if they needed to. Now we're all a text or email away and "hold on (wife or kid), I just need to reply to this text/email to get this person taken care of".
I'm guilty of it. Whenever I've been out of service too long on our family UP trips I'm checking the shit out of my phone whenever it finds a signal to make sure I'm not missing some huge crisis at work that never seems to materialize.

We go into town maybe twice in 2 weeks and if I remember I'll park in the library parking lot for an email dump (or Mgofix) but even if I forget it's no big deal.
Used to be the same way in Florida for Spring break but they added some crappy wifi boosters so now it's still no cell but dial-up spped wifi, so actually the worst of both worlds there.
I took a big vacation to the USVI a couple years ago. My first day there, someone from work texted me about getting some raw material. I responded "I'm on vacation this week" and he sent me a frowny face emoji. This dude was in his 50s.
