Friday Night Shut-Ins Big Belly Expansion: What are you drinking?
It's been a while. With the gf out of town for the weekend I'm taking the opportunity to quaff a few Dogfish Head Chicory Stouts and play some music uncomfortably loud.
What is your drink tonight? Is it nice? What are you rocking out to?
Bonus points for any discussion of World Cup Soccer, How The Hell We Survive Until Football Season, or the Indignity of Pretending Valentine's Day Is Real.
Cheers.

Listening to early Oasis
World Cup Take: England takes it in a mild upset over Spain.
How I survive until football season: I'm edgy for the spring game already. I am unsure how to occupy myself without the recruiting in full swing and I can't get into the new year of recruiting.
I am enjoying Fallout 3. Thanks to those who made recommendations last month.
February 12th, 2010 at 7:07 PM ^
So you liking Fallout 3? Man I had to visit everything, speak to everyone, kill everything, and do any mission for everyone. Just plain addicting.
February 12th, 2010 at 9:30 PM ^
You can't honestly think that England is going to win the world cup. I hope you were kidding.
February 12th, 2010 at 9:47 PM ^
Fabio Capello has instilled some discipline on that program on/off the field. It certainly showed in the qualifying.
February 12th, 2010 at 9:32 PM ^
Oasis. Always have, always will.
February 13th, 2010 at 10:11 PM ^
...they were a huge part of the soundtrack of my undergrad days.
February 12th, 2010 at 6:43 PM ^
I'm alternating between a Lenie's Nut Brown Ale and water. I got a birthday party in a few hours, so I'm just getting the system warmed up since the birthday boy is known for his love of shots.
I'm rocking out to the Red Hot Chili Peppers right now and playing some Mirror's Edge. Yeah, I know, old game, but no plot spoilers please.
February 12th, 2010 at 6:47 PM ^
It seems a bit early for one of these threads....rough week?
February 12th, 2010 at 6:58 PM ^
It's almost closing time in the UK, and seeing as how I had marmite on my toast this morning I feel that Greenwich Mean Time in my blood.
February 12th, 2010 at 7:10 PM ^
Please don't tell me you had a Vegamite Sandwich today, too. Men at Work would be proud, but I'd have to buy you another pint just to help drowned the tast of Vegamite.
February 12th, 2010 at 7:17 PM ^
but I'm not sure how much nuance there is when it comes to yeast spreads. I know it's an acquired taste.
February 12th, 2010 at 6:46 PM ^
we've got some Two Brothers Northwind Imperial Stout here alongside some pierogis and such for the Olympics. Gonna be a good night.

My beer of choice - "Did you know beer made you smarter? It made Bud-wiser".
February 12th, 2010 at 7:01 PM ^
Comes with the EPA, IPA, Maibock and Great Northern Porter.
Will be enjoying while watching tonight's hockey game with a few friends!
Some lower-key Sufjan Stephens is the soundtrack for the moment.
February 12th, 2010 at 7:36 PM ^
Summit EPA is one hell of a beer. One of my all-time favorites.
Tonight, I'll have a few New Glarus IPAs, and I'll probably watch the hockey team try to keep their tourney hopes alive.
February 12th, 2010 at 7:08 PM ^
Seagram's whiskey and listening to 80's music.
Valentine's Day? Some guy was resting his head on his girl's shoulder while she was checking out the guy sitting across the way.
February 12th, 2010 at 6:55 PM ^
Finishing some Hofbrau Heffeweissen. Next stop is the George Clinton and The P-Funk concert.
No take on the World Cup.
Surviving the offseason: obviously with beer and a contact buzz!
February 12th, 2010 at 6:59 PM ^
You're going to see P-Funk?? Damn man I'm jealous. That will be a ridiculous show
February 12th, 2010 at 7:11 PM ^
Hard liquor tonight... Might sound like a weird combo but I am going with a few SoCo and Sunkist mixed drinks, try it before you knock it.
February 12th, 2010 at 7:06 PM ^
followed by some Huma Lupaliscious.
No rocking, trying to get the kids to go to sleep.
February 12th, 2010 at 7:10 PM ^
I will be partaking in a fifth of Jeramiah Weed Sweet Tea vodka with a splash of lemonade while watching the triple OT game against State. I have some fond memories of that night.

Drinking Witty Monk Witbier that I brewed using the Mr. Beer kit. Longing for the Defibrillator Doppelbock 7.0+ I have currently cold conditioning though.
Still trying to figure out how to get through the next two months until at least baseball season starts up. Maybe pick up a Xbox 360 and NCAA football...
Valentine's Day, yeah...Told the wife we are not doing anything Hallmarky for Valentine's Day and for some reason she agreed. Still its an excuse to go out and enjoy some Japanese Hibachi though.
February 12th, 2010 at 7:14 PM ^
Quafing my housebrew of Molson Canadian and listening to the Chairman of the Board's smooth vocals.
Lame? Yes, quite so. Happy? Indeed.

Magic Hat Winter Lager, and Shorts Liberator. Not sure what tonight's entertainment will be just yet.
I think the World Cup will help in surviving until football season, so that takes care of one month at least. After North Korea drew into the group of death (Brazil, Ivory Coast, Portugal), it only took about a week for the North Korean government to decide not to broadcast any of the games. What are the odds they inform their citizens they emerged as World Cup champs?
February 12th, 2010 at 9:33 PM ^
I think North Koreans think they already won the world cup.
February 13th, 2010 at 1:05 AM ^
Love Short's Liberator.. one of my favorites. I'd love to get some more but it seems like the supply has run out since it came out in December.
February 13th, 2010 at 3:33 PM ^
I found it at Whole Foods on Saline-Ann Arbor Rd, if you're nearby

'Cause I'm thirsty.
February 12th, 2010 at 7:38 PM ^
Yuengling, which might as well be water around here.
Supposed to head to a bar later, but that is looking in flux right now. Guess I could do, ack, work.
I look forward to the World Cup. No predictions here, because every other WC prediction I've made is usually dead wrong. I'll be getting very drunk for the games though.
February 12th, 2010 at 7:40 PM ^
Listening to Blue Rodeo, and drinking Canadian Club. Neat.
February 12th, 2010 at 7:46 PM ^
I'm drinking a White Russian, but as soon as the hockey game starts i'm shifting to Black Russians to show that i'm racially sensitive.
February 12th, 2010 at 7:47 PM ^
Drinking Dale's Pale Ale with "booster shots" of Jameson. I will likely transition over to whatever is left of the K-zoo Stout I transported from Michigan soon. At which time I will begin listening to myself play guitar at near uncomfortably loud levels until I begin to sound like shit (stupid whiskey) and then listen to whatever I am feeling at that point.
As for passing the off season: I am hoping the Red Wings can muster a promising playoff appearance, but I plan to spend the greater majority of time distracting myself with beer brewing and seasonal Colorado outdoor activities. Its probably time for another "booster shot"...
February 12th, 2010 at 8:07 PM ^
I'm with you on the Dale's, but no booster shots...well maybe when the wife isn't looking!
February 12th, 2010 at 7:50 PM ^
I think I'm going to have a tall mug of Guinness Stout as I watch the Opening Ceremonies.
2.5 weeks of Olympics, takes us just about to March Madness, which just about gets us to the Draft. I'll be good through that, with a Spring Game thrown in. After that...ugh...see what the Piston's lottery pick looks like?
February 12th, 2010 at 7:51 PM ^
Jameson Irish Whiskey and A7X.

Never been a beer guy. Liquor is so much tastier.
And Grizzly Bear's album Veckatimest. An acquired taste, for sure, but one that pays dividends. If it's too much to begin with, listen to it while working. Gradually you'll start to pick up on melodies you like. You'll be singing it while you wait for something to microwave. One morning you'll realize it was playing in your dreams. Then it's in your pores.
Just don't bring it up with any hipster doofuses or they'll talk your ear off. That's my problem with hipsters: they always deign to possess the things they like. No one else can have heard of their favorite band or it becomes common. And no one "gets" them. Total opposite of a hippie.
Also, best title for an MGoBoard post I think I've ever seen. Props!

to all poor college kids with gambling addictions. I'll be drinking Coors Light tonight... sad I know, but cheap. Also, I ask you all to pull for the Rookies +13 and West Virginia -3.

and Mt. Gay Eclipse Rum with a lime for this diabetic body. No carbs with this drink.
World Cup- how can you ask a referee to participate when he cannot see a blatant hand pass?
How can I last until football season?- Easy...my mom's lung cancer is spreading and I need to be there for her and my dad. Everything has it's priority.
Valentine's Day- If you believe and get laid then it's real.

Have fun at the P-funk concert. You're going to
get a cheeba buzz just about the time Atomic Dog

of having at least one of each Sam Adams flavor this year. On the docket for tonight:
- Cranberry Lambic (suffering through this one)
- Coastal Wheat
- Imperial Double Bock
Really looking forward to #3 and intrigued by the new seasonal offering in #2.
BTW-- JMFJ sighting on Olympic opening ceremony condition... interviewed by Dan Patrick. Apparently he was in DC during the "sno-pocalypse" this week.
February 12th, 2010 at 9:07 PM ^
Yeah, Cranberry Lambic is one to miss on the chart. I don't even mind most lambics, though I was introduced to Kriek in the Netherlands, so I'm spoiled by that experience. But Sam Adams did themselves a disservice with that guy.
February 12th, 2010 at 10:38 PM ^
To me, the problem with this beer is that it's not really a lambic, but more of a cranberry ale.
I actually really like this beer, but I think it's named wrong. I would also probably like a "true" cranberry lambic, too.

Cheers from one brewer to another. Trust me, you will not find another hobby as rewarding as brewing.
February 12th, 2010 at 8:47 PM ^
i'm pretty excited about it. wish i had room for it...we have a tiny apartment, but it's definitely a life goal now to have a sweet garage or basement for brewing someday.
February 12th, 2010 at 8:54 PM ^
Where there's a will there's a way! Did you use a kit to start or did you create a recipe? I started with kits for the first batches and then worked up to all-grain. I am also growing hops - Chinook, Willamette, Cascade, Nugget and Hallertau. It's really a ton of fun to brew and even more fun to enjoy the results.
