Friday Night NCAA Football Open Thread

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

From the looks of things, we've got two "meh" games tonight, but it is football and I think even these might do us some good. They are:

9 PM - San Jose State vs. Utah State - ESPN

9 PM - Middle Tennessee vs. Brigham Young - ESPNU

According to StubHub, there are still seats available for SJSU vs. USU, if you're interested.

I said this last year sometime, I am sure, but if Chuckie Keeton is not a great old-school QB name, I am not sure what might be.

Not that it matters too much, but I believe USU was a 10 point favorite in this game.

My high school teams were the Blue Raiders so I always root for Middle Tennessee.  Our logo/mascot was an eagle for some reason.  MTSU went with what looks like a winged horse with a lightning bolt coming out of its mouth.  Both solid choices.

Anybody else flipping it over to Spike to watch former University of Michigan wrestling great Joe Warren fight?

He's headlining the latest Bellator card.

His fight is up next.

Edit:

Yeaaaahhh! Joe won by armbar.

It's my hometown Aggies! Chuckie is a stud, he's a fantastic read-option guy. These Aggies are back-to-back Famous Idaho Potato Bowl participants, winning the last one.

Nasty injury for SJSU's cornerback. Not sure the diagnosis but he's been carted off and taken to hospital. He was moving arms around fine while being loaded thankfully.

Yo,

Sorry I didn't see this right away.  Honestly, as far as hip/hop, I haven' been doing much that you probably haven't heard of.  I LOVE Yeezus.  I don't know your feelings on it but that's been much of my hip/hop listening (along with everything else Kanye) through the latter half of the summer.  I actually bought tickets to the Chicago show, November 9th...Floor Seats, so pumped.  So, Yeezus and I have Wale's album that came out a few months ago.  I listened and have Magna Carta/Holy Grail but it wasn't anything spectacular in my mind.  Drake's that just came out I am slowly warming up to as well.  Oh, and Kendrick Lamar.  Like everything else, this isn't anybody we don't know but since seeing him at Lollapalooza and knowing he's opening for Ye in Chicago, I've been listening, not just M.A.A.D City but earlier stuff as well.  I suppose if you haven't heard you must check out Gas Pedal by Sage the Gemini!  lulz

As far as everything else, I've been winding down the summer, like I said above, reliving Lollapalooza.  Vampire Weekend, Nine Inch Nails (pretty decent new album), The Cure (awesome show...wasn't into them before their Lolla announcement but dig them hard now), MS MR - check out the song Hurricane, Queens of the Stone Age - also a pretty god new album (If I Had a Tail, I Sat By The Ocean are great IMO)

Not Lolla related but, Portugal. The Man.  Also new album ealier in the summer but their past stuff is awesome, better to most people.  Arctic Monkeys new album I think is going to be pretty good (haven't listened fully yet).

Major Lazer (the DJ Diplo) Original Don to get the party started (a guilty pleasure).  Older TV on the Radio songs Second Song and Repetition have been frequented much lately too, as well as LCD Soundsystem.
