Friday Night NCAA Football (And Hockey) Open Thread

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

It is happening, folks.

At 8PM on ESPN2, this season's ultimate MACtion will occur right here in the Detroit area - at Ford Field, as a matter of fact.

Bowling Green takes on Northern Illinois for all of the MAC marbles in just a few moments. Per TeamRankings, NIU is the favorite - 3 points, about a 60% projected chance.

If you had plans to watch football, this would perhaps be the football you meant to watch.

Thoughts on making this Friday Night Football & Hockey Open Thread? Only one NCAAF game and a few interesting NCAAH games going on

  • Penn State/Wisconsin and MSU/Minnesota meeting for the first time ever as Big Ten foes
  • Michigan's Wednesday night opponent #6 Ferris is already beating #14 LSSU 4-0 in the 1st

Something to spice up your open thread with a bit more than just MACtion

Alright, Im going to talk to myself about college hockey. Feel free to join in

MSU surprising tied up with #1 Minnesota at 1-1. Minnesota looks constricted on the small ice at Munn

Penn State hanging in well with Wisconsin aside from the back to back goals they gave up early

Are you a hater, how isn't looking for NIU to be a BCS-buster?

Or do you want NIU to run the table and bust someone else's dream of BCS glory?

I'm in the later camp. Go NIU!

Almost had a nice little rain dance on the sideline there ala 2010 Hemmingway to bust it open.

If minnesota loses this hockey game, I will laugh my ass off. They should be winning 6-0 against these chumps.

I've seen Minnesota bloggers/hockey people talking about how Minnesota's style doesn't translate well to the small-rink. They and Wisconsin play on olympic size rinks (Wisconsin's may just be NHL) so playing at Munn or Yost probably feels like you're playing inside the penalty box to them

They aren't mutually exclusive. Fortunate to win national title in 2010 (most teams who win titles are). Lucky to be in position he is in today with this squad. And lucky that Chizik's 2012 squad completely imploded but clearly had some talent in cupboard.

But as the other commenter said, he's won everywhere he's been. It's not 20 years of luck.
