Friday Night NCAA Football (And Hockey) Open Thread
It is happening, folks.
At 8PM on ESPN2, this season's ultimate MACtion will occur right here in the Detroit area - at Ford Field, as a matter of fact.
Bowling Green takes on Northern Illinois for all of the MAC marbles in just a few moments. Per TeamRankings, NIU is the favorite - 3 points, about a 60% projected chance.
If you had plans to watch football, this would perhaps be the football you meant to watch.

NIU only giving three? Not a betting guy but I'd put money on that.

December 6th, 2013 at 8:15 PM ^
That was impressive... or NIU's defense is awful. Or both?

Thoughts on making this Friday Night Football & Hockey Open Thread? Only one NCAAF game and a few interesting NCAAH games going on
- Penn State/Wisconsin and MSU/Minnesota meeting for the first time ever as Big Ten foes
- Michigan's Wednesday night opponent #6 Ferris is already beating #14 LSSU 4-0 in the 1st
Something to spice up your open thread with a bit more than just MACtion

In the interests of content management, and because I don't foresee a big problem with commentary becoming too confusing, it is so sanctioned. :-)

But Lynch is a god, seriously. If you did NOT see his first TD pass tonight, watch that thing.
December 6th, 2013 at 8:27 PM ^
Stopped the hitch and then just stopped and stared at Lynch like he was a supermodel. Eff him.
Great catch by WR though.
December 6th, 2013 at 8:31 PM ^
seriously... too many people have gotten burned by one of his little cuts when the charge him in the box....
December 6th, 2013 at 8:37 PM ^
Your job is coverage. PERIOD. You got a bunch of other guys handling Lynch running. Now if it was Cover 2 (which is a stupid call that deep in red zone) then the safety is the @sshole.
December 6th, 2013 at 8:23 PM ^
Sick catch

I'm rooting for BG also, but the rushing 2 on 3rd and 12 and giving Lynch 8 hours to throw didn't inspire confidence.
December 6th, 2013 at 8:32 PM ^
GO ROCKETS, btw.
December 6th, 2013 at 8:37 PM ^
Alright, Im going to talk to myself about college hockey. Feel free to join in
MSU surprising tied up with #1 Minnesota at 1-1. Minnesota looks constricted on the small ice at Munn
Penn State hanging in well with Wisconsin aside from the back to back goals they gave up early
December 6th, 2013 at 8:40 PM ^
Yes! My wish has been granted! Im MGoImportant!
December 6th, 2013 at 8:43 PM ^
This defense is Rich Rod attricous
December 6th, 2013 at 8:45 PM ^
They are getting fooled by the simplest of tricks. Half of the defense seems to think they should be playing zone when everyone else is playing man.

I don't know what will come first, EMU in the MAC title game or the Lions in a Super Bowl. Hopefully, I'll live to see both.
December 6th, 2013 at 8:48 PM ^
I would honestly put my money on the lions winning a super bowl or emu scrapping the program before they win a conference title.
December 6th, 2013 at 8:49 PM ^
Uncovered a Lazarus pit recently? You're gonna need it. Bobby Layne laid his curse well, and EMU? Well... just 'cmon. Be realistic.
December 6th, 2013 at 9:01 PM ^
Lions to the Superbowl before EMU to the MAC title game

Alabama to Super Bowl before EMU to MAC title game.

That was an amazing kick. Das Boot

December 7th, 2013 at 2:07 AM ^
...but you do realize "Das Boot" means "The Boat," right?
December 7th, 2013 at 4:11 AM ^
I'm sure he just meant BGSU was going to party with subs following their victory, and it will therefore be crazy.
December 6th, 2013 at 8:57 PM ^
Or do you want NIU to run the table and bust someone else's dream of BCS glory?
I'm in the later camp. Go NIU!
December 6th, 2013 at 9:00 PM ^
He's trying so hard to be entertaining. He's just socially-unaware. That doesn't make him immature!
Yeah, I'm drunk.

Almost had a nice little rain dance on the sideline there ala 2010 Hemmingway to bust it open.
Also - STALLONE YOU ARE 70 YEARS OLD STOP MAKING BOXING MOVIES.
December 6th, 2013 at 9:05 PM ^
MSU (who is bad) still hanging tough with #1 Minnesota. It's 2-2 with 7:24 to play. This would be a significant upset if MSU could pull off the win

December 6th, 2013 at 9:10 PM ^
I've seen Minnesota bloggers/hockey people talking about how Minnesota's style doesn't translate well to the small-rink. They and Wisconsin play on olympic size rinks (Wisconsin's may just be NHL) so playing at Munn or Yost probably feels like you're playing inside the penalty box to them
December 6th, 2013 at 9:30 PM ^
I'm listening on the radio, they have been complaining about it the whole game. Apparently the door where the zamboni comes in is also creating unfair bounces for Michigan State.

Gus RT @bmarcello: Auburn's Gus Malzahn agrees to new six-year deal worth $3.85 million next year with $250K increase each subsequent year.

The man is worth it. He wins everywhere. Someone was going to give him that money if Auburn didn't
December 6th, 2013 at 9:12 PM ^
A lot of it was luck.
December 6th, 2013 at 9:14 PM ^
Auburn runs on luck. They should've lost multiple times in 2010 with Cam Newton, and the last two games...holy hell. How does one team get so lucky?
December 6th, 2013 at 9:36 PM ^
They aren't mutually exclusive. Fortunate to win national title in 2010 (most teams who win titles are). Lucky to be in position he is in today with this squad. And lucky that Chizik's 2012 squad completely imploded but clearly had some talent in cupboard.
But as the other commenter said, he's won everywhere he's been. It's not 20 years of luck.
