Friday Night Lights: Navy vs.Central Michigan

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

In the event that anyone would like to watch a little football, we have the 2-3 Navy Midshipmen versus the 2-3 Central Michigan Chippewas, live from Mt. Pleasant on ESPN2.

Central is coming off a 50-35 loss to Toledo, and Navy is coming off their 28-21 OT win versus Air Force.

They did it despite giving up over 500 yards to Air Force and being more or less outplayed on most meaning offensive metrics.

In this game, not even at the end of the 1st quarter, Navy has exceeded their passing yards in the Air Force game (98 yards now, compare to 74 through the whole AF game).

Navy has tripled their total of passing TDs to 3 with the last play. 14-3 Navy.

CMU is letting a triple-option team pick them apart from the air, which I would think makes this the QB-RB-FB-XWR-ZWR quintuple option at minimum.

An 11 play drive is capped with a field goal, so it is now 17-3 Navy with a shade over three minutes left until halftime. One of the most glaring stats is that Radcliff is 4 of 7 for 23 yards - it has not been happening in the air so far for the Chippewas. The 56 yards of rushing isn't encouraging either.

Navy gets its third passing TD with that play, and the PAT makes it 31-13 Navy.

Did the Chips understand what triple-option usually entails, or did they sell out against the run so hard that it was inconceivable that someone should even throw a pass?

it isn't quite as easy as you make it sound. coach ken is a Paul Johnson disciple and the run and shoot is built into the offense.

eventually the corners get a little too aggressive in trying to hold the line, or someone loses the non-motioning A-back.

I really wish these announcers would lay off Ryan Radcliff. He got pulled; we get that he's a senior, we get that he isn't hurt and isn't playing. Sitting there talking about what they would do while trying to play a game (on national TV no less) and how they would play tough guy with their head coach as a college student is beyond annoying.

Enos has run that program right into the ground.  Once heard a rumor that one of the first things he did upon being hired was to take down a photo of CMU beating MSU that hung in the football offices.  Anyway, it won't be long now and he'll be back on the recruiting trail, working for Dantonio.  Can't see how he lasts another season in Mount Pleasant.  He's been a total disaster.  Maybe even worse than Debord?
