landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
Rum and pepsi in a limo stuck in traffic outside of chicago.
Must be Burt Reynolds or something
Just checkin...how many hours until Izzo's head explodes?
Nice. Don't know about the Oktoberfest, but Paulaner is good stuff. I also have a huge Paulaner mug that I stole from the hotel bar in Munich.
NBA 2k12 and Papa John's. ho hum
Kicking some ass at NHL 12. Now off to chill before a night of debauchery.
I just got the parts I needed to fix my hookah, I'm pretty excited about getting to smoke it again tonight after months.
What do you usually smoke?
is my favorite. megangoblue is more into double apple, mint, mojito, kind of sheesha. I like things with a bit more flavor. How about yourself?
like you. I've been working on trying different brands and different flavors lately. I'd say my go to right now is Al Fakher Guava. Great flavor, great buzz. I'm working on getting some Tangiers, which is supposed to just straight knock you off your feet with the buzz.
Have you tried Fantasia before? They have a lot of flavor with their's. Or if you want to try something new, Hydro Herbal gives the best flavor, in my opinion. No nicotine with that though, just herbs, so no buzz.
but I am not 100% certain. It was decent, but I've had better.
I was hoping a drinking thread would pop up tonight.
I also have a couple Hopslams on deck, but I'm starting off with a Firestone Walker Double Jack (double IPA). I hate to say it, but it really gives Hopslam a run for its money. Highly recommended.
Gonna have to listen to the hockey game online. It's really the only sports thing going tonight since I can't get the Pistons here.
Can you describe the TV?
It's a 43" plasma, on sale right now at Best Buy. I'm pretty happy with it, especially since I'm now living in an apartment that's not particularly big, so 43" plus my stereo and it's almost too good to be true.
I have a Samsung too, love it. My wife (gf at the time) and I got our TV a few years back right before the Super Bowl, and the Best Buy salesgirl gave us shit thinking we were going to return it right after the game. What, and give up all those reward zone points? I don't think so, lady.
There's a Leinie's Fireside Nut Brown (or 2) with my name on it in the fridge. I'm gonna crack that, watch a little of the hockey game, and then play the hell outta some Skyward Sword.
My gal just headed out of town today so obviously I am through nearly half a bottle of Jim Beam Rye. Just debating when to heat up my chicken pot pie.
Let the hockey, offensive lineman announcements, and internet porn commence!
drunk first, then pie.
Dammit...after hearing your plans for the night, I'm disappointed I'm going out. No sarcasm, this has been a long week.
Filling up my cup tonight is Blanton's bourbon on the rocks (awesome apartment-warming gift from my brother, it's a "T" bottle for you Blanton's drinkers) until my friends show up, then it's Jim and 7UP.
Any livestream video link?
I bought the same package for the outdoor game and now I love it because I can watch all the games
White at home?
Just turned 21 a few weeks go. I am a poor college kid so I am cracking open what I can afford.... a nice cold coca cola!
Get this man a beer!
Seriously, though - there is free beer available somewhere in Ann Arbor tonight. None of that $5/cup MSU/directionalMU bull.
Make it happen!
Mix skoal vanilla and peach. It tastes like a creamsicle.
Chris Brown (NTCB) takes it to the house on Miami (NTM).
Now time for Hunwick to
Happy birthday Chris Brown!
I'll probably end up with another Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti Chocolate Stout. Only had it once, but it def rivaled Founders' yummy stouts
I had some Great Divide Hercules last week; good shit, but strong enough to give me that warm feeling in the sternal area.
I wanted to make White Russians last weekend and had everything I needed except the vodka was grape flavored. They were actually pretty tasty. So I'm trying that again.
equal parts intrigue and revulsion.
Not sure what the Dude would have to say about that...
The Dude would abide
Your open threads don't include insane rumors about Steve Spurrier and illegal immigrants.
Your post is much funnier when you read it as your avatar talking. Bear Bryant barking "I like you guys" while pointing at me is a funny thought.
FYI, you'll fit in here if you like coaches pointing.
True, but our liveblogs include lengthy discussions on whether the water supply in the Southwest will improve the Midwestern football talent pool. #michigandifference
We hope you stick around; you're the first non-B1G, non-Irish fan I can ever remember posting.
I was reading a bit about it, Brian Cook is an absolute bad ass. I wish Bama had something like this, with more educated fans. That's the problem you run into on SEC forums, far too many of the posters are grammar challenged (for lack of a better term), and post general worthlessness.
This will be a good place for you to hang out, especially come August. Seriously, if you keep up the good posting, don't be surprised if you're asked to put together some sort of Alabama preview. One thing you can definitely say about this blog's readers: we always crave more information.
Anyone know if his commitment will be streamed live anywhere?
Drinking my last bottle of Sam Adams Infinium then moving on to some home brew.
Care to describe the homebrew?
I'm still a rookie, using Mr. Beer. It's the Oktoberfest and it came out pretty good.
I made a witbeir a couple months ago that was pretty awesome. I added two boosters to get it around 10%. It was real similar to an Imperial White with a more citrus flavor. I actually enjoyed it more than the Imperial White.
I've only made 3 batches but I am addicted.
Oktoberfest? Before Labor Day?? For shame! /s
Doesn't matter if it's your first batch or your hundredth, making your own beer rules and you should be proud. Don't forget to write everything down, even the ingredients they give you in the Mr. Beer kit.
And check out BeerSmith if you haven't yet; it's well worth the thirty bucks.
The Oktoberfest was a Christmas present from my brother. At about three in the morning on New Year's me and my friend said fuck it let's make some beer. I have quikly learned the two most important things are sanitize, sanitize, sanitize and write EVERYTHING down.
You got the biggest rule down (the sanitize one) so it's gonna be tough to make a bad beer unless you make some really gross concoctions. Although it is fun to make a shitmix out of all your leftover malts and hops at the end of the year. The last time me and my friends said "fuck it" while drunk around Christmas/New Year's time, we ended up with a hand built shuffleboard table in my basment. These things happen.
The Mrs. got me one for my birthday last year, and I love it. I will eventually move on to something more sophisticated, but for right now this is pretty fun. I think I found a lifelong hobby.
What Fox channels did you purchase?
I moved to DC in June and I'm dying without FSD for Michigan hockey. I bought the Comcast Sports Package, so I get BTN, NHL Network, NFL Net/Redzone, Fox Soccer, like 10 ESPNs, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, etc...
The only games I get to see anymore are either on BTN or NBCSports when we play ND. HELP ME WISE TV SAGES
(Note: I can figure out streaming over the net. I'm talking real TV dudez)
I'm watching it on Fox College Sports Atlantic. I just got it today, but it doesn't seem to "Atlantic" so far; in the past five hours they've had shows about Arkansas' quarterbacks and MSU basketball, plus M hockey.
Just to add this here, with the good guys wearing white and Miami red, I'm finding myself doing doubletakes. I'm always rooting for maize, blue or red on the ice, the white is messing with me.
Yeah, NTM looking exactly like the Wings on TV really messes with my head. Especially when they show a Wings ad as soon as the commercials start.
Poor Miami (OH) vs Michigan open thread. He got hijacked by the slightest edge of mgodrunkfridays
Not to mention there's a liveblog, albeit an off-site one.
MGoDrunkFridays trumps everything in the offseason (except a Frozen/Final Four if that happened to be on a Friday)
I'm flipping back and forth between the hockey and the Pistons, so here is a random Pistons thought: I can't fucking wait to draft Thomas Robinson so Jason Maxiell can stop wasting everyone's time.
We need to drink up even more now.........
The government seized firstrowsports.tv!!! ....I loved that website =(
It sucks because as far as I know, there's plan from anybody really to set up live-streaming for free. I mean ESPN has ESPN3, but only if you have the right service provider
Two very, very good goals. A goal is a goal, but these aren't the more "unearned" type of goals, they're setting their offense and getting good looks.
I am drinking lots and lots of Bud Light. Predictable, easy, boring, and yet a reliable and always solid marathon beer. Enjoy the drinks tonight, all!
Here's my question: Bud and Labatt are the same price in stores in MI. Why would you buy Bud?
Left Hand American Pale Ale, Bell's Two Hearted, Laguinitas IPA and Founders Double Trouble. I'm happy.
Hey how is that Lagunitas IPA? I've been meaning to try it but haven't gotten around to it yet. Don't they have a double IPA too?
It's next on my list. Enjoying the Left Hand APA right now.
If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to know how you like it, maybe compared to Two Hearted?
No problem! I like it a lot - it's much lighter and more crisp than Two Hearted. It also looks almost like a pilsner in the glass with some light lacing. I highly recommend it! This would be a great spring/summer patio IPA - still has a very citrus/pine finish just not too heavy.
Awesome, thanks! Based on your recommendation, it'll be the next beer I buy. I always thought Two Hearted was really easy to drink for an IPA, so it's good to know the Lagunitas is similar. I'm not a big fan of the dry finish (twss?).
Anytime! I'm a big gin fan so any IPA is high on my list - dry or not. Good luck with the Lagunitas!
I don't know how deeply you feel about gin, but this is my favorite gin drink, called the Purple Chongo (as mentioned in N2Deep's legendary song "Back to the Hotel"):
Ice in your cup
4 parts tonic water
4 parts [? see below]
2+ parts gin (depending on your preferred strength)
1 part cran-raspberry juice
? = Grape Kool-Aid traditionally, but could be substituted with anything on the spectrum from a dark colored Kool-Aid to a pink lemonade
Garnish with lime, if so desired.
My friends and I make them by the gallon. We eventually settled on pink lemonade because the vitamins from that and the juice seemed to prevent hangovers in the morning no matter how much we drank. We used Beefeater gin for lack of pine-ness.
EDIT: Tonic water contains quinine, which, according to the all-knowing Wikipedia, includes the following: fever-reducing, painkilling, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Good Lord. I want to try it! I'm pretty basic usually - go with Hendrick's/Tanqueray, soda and a lime. However, I have to try that...thanks!
My advice: get one of those 1 gallon red cooler jugs from walmart, you know the one, it's $7. Dump in a liter bottle of tonic; mix up a liter of Kool-Aid in that same bottle & dump it in; eyeball half (or more) bottle of gin and dump it in; eyeball a quarter bottle of cran juice and dump it in, fill the rest of the cooler with ice, put the top on, shake it up a bunch of times, and pour it out of the tap into some solo cups. All night long.
What a snipe. Wow.
Don't know who's following what, but it's UM 2-0 MU, Michigan going on the PP.
Small batch bourbon and coke. Eating a fish sandwich. Muy delisioso.
Down in ATL drinking some Sweetwater at their brewery. Highly recommended.
What happened with Diamond, wasnt 8 pm the decision time?
There are like 4 guys committing from that school, so they have an event going on. He's deciding soon though
I'm following the buzz on Twitter, no announcement yet... they're really drawing it out.
3-0 Mich after 1.
Lakefront Brewery- Riverwest Stein Beer.
Eating Thai Basil Chicken that I made from scratch.
Checkin out a few new record stores in Milwaukee tomorrow. fucking excited.
first of all, you get automatically upvoted for the sig/avatar, every time.
Also, I made a faux-Thai chicken the other day with ramen. I hate ramen (bring back memories of strange college floormates), but you make it with ramen, and it was dang good.
Sierra Nevada's Torpedo Extra IPA
but a torpedo is adamn fine IPA. Served in a frosty glass, and you have a damn fine drinking experience.
Jack and coke to start then on to the New Holland Cabin Fever.
Jordan Diamond to Auburn
Diamond to Auburn.
Dammit Diamond, ya blew up the drinkin' thread!
Remember to vote for Coach Beilein. Neck and neck with Thad Matta.
Thanks for the reminder. Beilein's in white, which I'm assuming means he's at least leading, but it's <1%.
There was clearly movement to make that hit on Hunwick. Refs made the right call.
You're up by three, don't take dumb penalties and give them a shot to get back into it.
Damn, I just put a mattress and boxspring set on Craigslist and I got four responses in 15 minutes. I underestimated the power of Craigslist.
Be careful with the black light.
... or you underestimated the value of your mattress and boxspring.
Troof. I bought them to furnish my college room at the Salvation Army almost 10 years ago. $20 apiece. We're not exactly talking fancy and we're definitely not talking brand new. Guess I should've known they'd command a price since you can't get mattresses at thrift stores around here - they won't take donated ones, bedbug laws.
That's OK, just getting rid of them means more to me than the money I'd get for them. They're just clutter now.
anyone else excited for Jack White's solo debut?
... out of Riverwest Steinbeer, onto Bell's Amber. not quite as good but it will do.
Solo debut? When does that come out?
I want to know who is a better guitarist in the last 15 years than Jack White. And I want their music to rock, so don't say John Mayer.
What's the difference between flamebait and trolling again?
Trolling means MSU/Ohio/ND fan.
Flamebaid means dumbass M fan.
Funny post is justingoblue.
He was one of the first people in the early 2000's to stand up and say "since when is Nickelback an acceptable replacement to rock?"
Jack White is the shit.
I like your posts, yet
I do not want the swan flu.
How shall I mod'rate?
Well, if you're looking for the very best, and you want your music to rock, check out Alexi Laiho from the band Children of Bodom. He's a freaking wizard. CoB was touring in GR and Detroit this past week, and he's just incredible to see live.
It's metal though, just warning you...
I had never heard of these guys so I watched a couple videos of theirs on YouTube. And you're right, the lead guitarist dude does shred. The thing with metal, though, is that the music is just as much about the drums as it is about the lead guitar. It's sort of an identity - double bass pedals = metal band, right? I guess it's hard for me to say that a guy like Laiho is or isn't the best, because the technical aspects are totally different. With Jack White, most people will hear every note and be able to say he knows what he's doing; with Alexi Laiho, they might just hear noise and dismiss it. It's tempo and style and genre and personal taste.
I respect that entirely. I would say that, to the discerning ear, Alexi Laiho is one of the best, if not the best, shredders on the planet. The technical skill he has is simply unbelievable. His fingers were quite literally a blur. But there's many ways to be the "best" at guitar, as you pointed out.
Negro Modelo and Kodi-bear (wintergreen)
Everybody not watching the Pistons game just missed the highlights from the Vanilla Ice halftime show. Vanilla Ice, people. Your loss.
Denard at Yost dude.
On most nights I would take Vanilla Ice over watching the Pistons. If we hold on, and thats a big if, would that be Big Win No. 5?
Yes, it would. Strangely enough, the reason I've had such a surge of renewal of interest in the Pistons this year is because of how bad they are. I guess now that the Lions are good, the Pistons are filling the void of "team I like watching because there's absolutely no expectation." Plus Greg Monroe is actually pretty amazing.
I guess I understand, it's like watching a train wreck, what you're seeing is bad but you can't look away.
And I've actually thought about hitting up some games, with tickets basically being given away it's a good excuse to just skip out on responsibility to watch some sports
It's not really a train wreck thing. I don't know how to explain it. I just feel like there's a lot of catharsis in rooting for a really lousy team. I don't actively want any of my teams to be horrible, but when they get that way, it's like all pressure is off and I can just enjoy the game for the game's sake instead of worrying about what happens if they lose. If they win, great. If they lose, it's not like anything changed.
I could never get that way about college football, and I'd be awfully miserable if all my teams sucked, but still.
There is a reason Sergott is the worst fucking ref in the ccha. His job before tr ccha was reffing mite hockey.
Denard is at Yost.
Got loose on a bottle of cabernet to enjoy the first two periods.
Third period is for beer. Founders Dirty Bastard on deck.
AND IT IS VERY COLD AND GOOD.
LOOK AT IT. LOOK AT HOW REFRESHING IT IS. HERE IS A PICTURE OF MY COLD AQUAFINA:
I love West Michigan.
I'm in northern Virginia with shitty cable so the only moving pictures I can have on is Knicks/Celtics while I listen to the hockey game online. Are the Knicks a good point guard and a good coach away from being great, or are the Celtics ~18 months away from being too old to play but somehow squeeze out their last bits of talent every night? or both? or neither?
The Knicks are in the finishing stages of digging out from the Isiah Thomas era. Can you imagine how bad they'd've been if they weren't the New York Knicks and Isiah was instead in charge of a small-market team in a town with no appeal to NBAers?
Former NBA star... small market team... no fan base... hey, you really want me to say "Charlotte Bobcats," don't you?
You forgot "former NBA star.....who thinks that because he was a really good ballplayer he knows everything there is to know about management and people are stupid enough to believe him." But at least Michael Jordan didn't burn down an entire league.
I just graduated and moved to Northern Virginia and I'm 80% certain it sucks down here. The traffic, the people, the culture, I can't stand it so far. Any words of advice on how to not make it suck or reasons it doesn't?
Don't even start with me about traffic.
I wonder how many times NTM is gonna run Hunwick this period? Too bad fighting doesn't exist in college hockey.
Sergott was the same POS ref in the ND series where ND thugged up hunwick. He is worthless.
We threw our candy back on the ice when they came back for the 3rd.
score of hockey game please?
And Dogfish 90 here. Best IPA period.
Russian River released the 2012 vintage earlier this week, amid considerable crowds. Kegs only, so you may have to roadtrip it.
Pliny lacks the New Yorker imprimatur that Dogfish got a few years ago, but it has inspired many a local, Sonoma vintner. Good wine, they say, is made with lots of beer.
But was able to pick up a few Elder bottles on the Michigan black market last summer. Hands down the best balanced IPA made, and I've had all the best, save for the Younger. 90 is very good, so is 120 and the no longer made Squall (bottle aged 90 min), but Elder is just tremendous.
As for me tonight, a few glasses of Bulleit Rye
My wife, God bless her, found a bottle of Pliny the Elder which I received in this year's Christmas stocking. Still saving it. Here in DC area, Pliny is impossible to find. Only distributor on the entire East coast is in Philly.
Was lucky to acquire a case of Hopslam in past two weeks. Also had some on tap at a couple of DC bars.
Dogfish brew is generally plentiful down here and I love all the IPAs: 60, 75, 90, and the fairly rare 120 mins variety.
Agree with MGrowOld that the DFH 90 is fantastic, but I'd have to give the edge to Hopslam. if Pliny the Elder is indeed better, I can't wait to try. Guessing the odds of ever seeing the Younger out East are very, very long.
Pliny the Elder on tap is amazing, but the one I had in a bottle wasn't especially great.
Fireball thirty in t-minus 5 minutes...
sorry for the huge
Deschutes is an Oregon brewer. This is a pretty straightforward amber.
Can you tell any difference, even perceived difference, between organic and non-organic beer?
Not really. I'm sure there must be ingredient or process differences but cynical me suspects it to be mostly a marketing gimmick to be honest.
Fish Brewing in Olympia is another one with organic ales.
Just flipped over to the AFA/RIT game. AFA looks absolutely tiny; I honestly think that sizewise I could be their go-to LW/PF type, and I'm really not big (for an NHL/Junior A/CCHA/WCHA team) at 6'nothing 205.
Anyone looking to sell tickets to tomorrow's (today's) game? I really want to find some
