Friday Night Drinking (My Bracket is Already F***ed) Open Thread.

Submitted by RollDamnTide on

As is tradition, my bracket is done after the 2nd day, and I'm drinking to another 50 dollars wasted. Good luck to Michigan the rest of the night, I can't believe how well Ohio is shooting. What the hell are you going to do with that?

Hey George Clooney, Everybody gets pinched. But you did it right. You told 'em nothing and they got nothing...I'm proud of you. You took your first pinch like a man and you learned the two greatest things in life...Never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut.

megangoblue had her own UTL game today...it was awesome. Kicking back with some Shandy, maybe some whiskey later, with both games on the tube.

Weather is awesome, life is good; hopefully basketball and hockey keep it that way.

Were you ever in Germany then? Salvator isn't the most common beer ever.

Speaking of dark beers, I'm having the new Guinness black lager. It's pretty good, kind of like a porter. Or if you aren't a porter drinker, it's a little like a regular Guinness might be if it were more carbonated and a little less thick. Good stuff.

I was feeling ballsy the other day and put Missouri through on my bracket. Not that I really care that much about my bracket since I usually do the same every year since 1992.

Bracket is over too. Will get caught up with taped shows tonight. I heard Clark Kellog's son play's on OHIO's team...sure he loved that outcome in moe ways than one. My poor two year old...God bless her...hears me say Go Blue enough and Michigan...her little bracket I allowed her to fill out is over. Obviously she had Michigan going very deep in this tourney. Bless her. On to the next strong beverage.

Fuck this shit. All I want to do is rest and hangout with friends to take my mind off of that catastrophe, but I'll be spending the rest of my night and the next week in the library. Dammit.

I was trying to save my liver for my road trip to Chicago for St. Patty's, but this crappy day changed things.  I placed 3 sports bets while in Vegas earlier this week: Michigan, Missouri, and Creighton.  My longshot, never going to win it, random bet is the only one I have left.  So for me it's a 6 pack of Honey Brown, and 6 pack of Leinenkugels Sunset Wheat and the wife just left to getting some more beer for good measure. Goodnight.

Well we played like shit and lost.  Duke also lost so that takes some of the sting away.  SOME.  Drowning my sorrows with a bunch of Killians and then onto the hard stuff.

Mitch McGary. and GRIII....YOU'RE OUR ONLY HOPE(S)!

I live in Baltimore and I am drinking a Fu Manchu (in honor of Joe Flacco). It's basically a purple long island. It's kind of a chick drink but all booze and two and you're hammered. I need this. I don't even like the Ravens.

Poured myself a big glass of Absolut on the rocks as our boys went scoreless in the last 4 minutes.  After the buzzer, pulled out my Visa and bought 2 Party Patio passes to the Cowboy Classic in Dallas Sept 01 on StubHub.  I need something to look forward to.  See you in Big D, RDT.  GO BLUE!

Though I could use a mind eraser right now. At least I got to hear the "Missouri loves company" line after Duke lost. It almost made me laugh after that horrid Michigan game. Almost.

1. Sparkling Burgundy (Monmousseau) saved for celebrating the win. Oh, well.

2. Dolin vermouth.

3. Portuguese anise liqueur (25%) (think Ouzo).

4. La veillee est jeune. (The evening is young.)

I'm pleased and excited that Michigan has its own breweries (Founders and ??)  now pumping out stouts and IPA's. When I lived in AA and Detroit (early '70s) I'd make runs to Windsor to pick up cases Molson Export just to get something with a little taste. OK, now here comes the question that will chisel your arteries and frost your hearts:

I've sampled east-of-Mississippi microbrews from NC to northern WVa and in Chicago and NYC. The many different styles had different colors and names, but they really all tasted about the same, and it was boring. I haven't sampled Michigan. Really good beers and radical differences among the brews of a single brewhouse are common, if not quite the norm, here in Portland OR. How does Michigan compare with here?
