is just terrible because sparty looks awfully tough. Was expecting a ho hum offense and some big plays against their D but they look like they haven't missed a step from last the end of last year

With a new coach. And you also have to consider the amount of teams that have left D2 for D1 in the last few years (around 9 by my count).

our OL to face competition before facing ND? I wouldn't mind at all if Appy St. were a decent sparing partner so when Michigan destroys them it means something. To each his own I guess.

JSU was a vastly better team than Appalachian State last year---11-4 and in the quarterfinals versus 4-8--and are supposed ro be better this year. This only makes Brandon's whim to play AppState all the more ridiculous.

Appalachian State is transitioning to D1. So saying that JSU is better than AppState is insane.

Transitioning to 1-A is a red herring. App State didn't suddenly get an influx of talent within the past 12 months to compensate for being a markedly inferior team to Jacksonville State last year--who also has 15 starters back from last year. Take your blinders off. App State was horrible.

With the new playoff system there may be a lot of incentive to run up scores.

Agree, but these schedules were set a few years ago. A closer score with backups may be the difference between the #4 getting in and the #5 being left out.

I kinda doubt it against bad early-season teams. If anyone is swayed by, say, MSU kicking Jacksonville St.'s butt to start the year, they shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a playoff ranking system.

I was thinking more along the lines of Texas A&M keeping the foot on the gas (and risking injury to starters) long after the game was out of reach.

So, that was something of a lackluster first half from the Huskies - they gave up 329 yards to BYU, 28 points and 7.48 yards per play on average. For their considerably stunted offensive effort, 158 yards on only 31 plays, which comes out to about 5.10 yards per play. Taysom Hill is coming up big here, comprising about 70% of BYU's yards gained right now.

Wow, these calls are so bad. JSU would still be getting their ass kicked, but these horrendous calls aren't helping anyone. PR TD (or at least a decent return) just got called off for a BS "signal".

Was just thinking the same thing. 3.9 YPC against an FCS team is poor. Special teams has also been surprisingly bad.
