Friday NCAAFB Boise vs Fresno Open Thread
September 18th, 2009 at 9:03 PM ^
is this the most hideous game of the week? Oops wrong thread.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:05 PM ^
Well that sucked. INT for a TD already. Took a delay of game penalty on the spread PAT formation. Wasn't surprising Fresno that time.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:06 PM ^
I wasn't a fan of Boise State's home jerseys.. but those away jerseys aren't too shabby. Any chance Fresno competes or will this be one sided (as the rivalry has been for the last few years)?
September 18th, 2009 at 9:21 PM ^
when you're not seeing it on smurf-turf.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:26 PM ^
with the BSU "stripes on the ass" look? wow. in two-tone blue. amazing.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:15 PM ^
Legit.
They look way better than Wisconsin did against Fresno
Nice stop in the redzone by Fresno - let's see if their offense can do anything.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:03 PM ^
They look like they could play anybody right now. The biggest question for me is whether Fresno (and therefore Wisconsin) are really that bad? They played Wisconsin right down to the wire, but they don't look like they could beat the Little Sisters of Charity tonight.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:16 PM ^
I know football isn't transitive (A beat B, and B is better than C, so . . .) but, uh, Wisconsin might be awful this year.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:19 PM ^
In their defense, I've heard rumors of anywhere from 23-40 players being sick before/during that game. A lot of players missed work outs as the flu went around the locker room. I don't think they're good, but that couldn't have helped in the slightest.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:25 PM ^
I believe that Beilema also made comments about the game being so tight because they were undermanned.
Valid excuse, but after watching this team barely beat Cal-Poly last season and struggle to start this season, I'm not buying the excuses.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:21 PM ^
but if Fresno gets blown out - I think Pat Hill's seat is going to go from toasty warm to very hot.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:26 PM ^
Needed that turnover badly.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:34 PM ^
like offensive pass interference.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:45 PM ^
Greatest trick Boise ever pulled (besides a hook and ladder with the game on the line): making people think they're an all-offense mid-major like Hawai'i in 2007, or Houston, etc. This team plays serious defense, no matter who it's against.
September 18th, 2009 at 9:56 PM ^
Fresno with that field goal - they need a defensive stop.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:08 PM ^
And just as soon as it looked like all hope was lost, Matthews breaks off a 60+ yard TD.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:07 PM ^
TD run - that was SEC level speed.
Fresno needed that - now they need a stop.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:11 PM ^
Got the stop. Now they need points going into the locker room. Big momentum turn in this game.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:14 PM ^
needs to one the ball if they want to have a shot.
They ran well against Wisconsin, and have looked much better running in this game than passing - pound the ball and set up the play action pass.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:15 PM ^
I think the announcer nailed it: "WOW"
September 18th, 2009 at 10:15 PM ^
this Matthews kid is gonna get the Barry Sanders award for multiple 60 yard td runs in a game.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:16 PM ^
Are you kidding me? Just because all the plays go for big yards, doesn't make it a well-played game...
September 18th, 2009 at 10:17 PM ^
Much respect for the runner, though. He's got a fifth gear.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:20 PM ^
linebacker is bringing back memories of LLoyd allowing the ball to be thrown to club handed tight ends and running the ball with club handed running backs.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:20 PM ^
That shot of Dan Hawkins was ironic. I wonder how badly he wishes he was still in Boise?
September 18th, 2009 at 10:27 PM ^
but Hawkins has not aged gracefully.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:39 PM ^
Funny to hear the Game Day guys busting on Kevin Durant.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:40 PM ^
Boise St. may be a top 10-15 team. I don't want to see more than one Boise St./BYU in a BCS game though.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:48 PM ^
one BCS "buster" is enough
I'll rather see ACC champ v. Big East champ
than another Hawaii v. Georgia
September 19th, 2009 at 1:18 AM ^
I didn't want to see Utah v. Alabama. And it turned out to be the best game.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:57 PM ^
Honestly if they run the table and go undefeated I don't see why they don't deserve a spot. They might be a smaller school but time and again BYU and Boise State have shown they can play with the big boys.
They might play conference games against inferior opponents, but winning all your games, no matter who you play, is a very VERY difficult thing to do.
September 18th, 2009 at 11:09 PM ^
I'd have to agree. They've played like a top 15 team, which is pretty much a qualifier to play in the BCS. I don't think that I believe this for every team, but from what we've seen so far from BSU/BYU, they both should qualify if they go undefeated.
Again, that doesn't mean every undefeated team should be in the BCS. Hawaii shouldn't have been there, undefeated or not.
September 18th, 2009 at 11:30 PM ^
Yeah I mean these teams have already padded their resumes with big wins over BCS teams, including one Oklahoma team that was in the National Championship game last year.
I do agree though that not every undefeated team should make it, but the ones who are playing good teams and winning or blowing out the weak teams they are forced to play should make it.
But teams like Boise St. or BYU who have a traditional history of being good mid-majors should (and will) get favorable votes and selections from the coaches and BCS.

Love the rip on Pryor by Mark May and Kevin Durant. Durant: "Man, Jacory Harris might be better than Terrelle Pryor". May: "Wow, that's a stretch, what's next, he's going to tweet Florida's going to be good this year?" Love it.
September 18th, 2009 at 10:54 PM ^
have a special teams coach - if so he needs to be canned. Piss poor coverage
September 18th, 2009 at 10:56 PM ^
I would have kicked to the first guy again. He'd probably be winded after the first return.
September 18th, 2009 at 11:00 PM ^
one of the worst QB performances I have seen this side of Jake DeLOLhme
September 18th, 2009 at 11:11 PM ^
by that WR - turned a touchback into a TD - great play but not as great as the tongue bath the announcers are giving him.
September 18th, 2009 at 11:19 PM ^
Yo! Who yo got tomorrow?
September 18th, 2009 at 11:42 PM ^
Details, man, details.
September 18th, 2009 at 11:47 PM ^
game I got UM by one of my favorite scores - 38-0.
pretty week slate - I would say my upset special is the Zips over the Hoosiers, but the Zips are -3, lol.
September 18th, 2009 at 11:22 PM ^
Titus Young (#4 on Boise) is a stud. He had to sit out most of last year for disciplinary reasons. If he can stay on the field the whole year, he gives Boise a legit downfield, big play threat. I think his play is key on whether they can go undefeated.
September 18th, 2009 at 11:57 PM ^
This is a great game, big play after big play
September 19th, 2009 at 12:02 AM ^
it reminds me of playing a game of NCAA 0n 360 - back and forth explosiveness.
September 19th, 2009 at 12:06 AM ^
Reminds me of another great WAC game I watched about 20 years ago. San Diego St. and BYU I think the final score was like 52-48 or something BYU won. I don't rem who BYU's QB was but Dan McGwire (Mark's brother) was San Diego states QB. It was a great offensive show.
September 19th, 2009 at 12:09 AM ^
I remeber Dan Mcwgire - huge bust for the Seahawks - made Rick Meir look like Joe Montana
September 19th, 2009 at 12:03 AM ^
Why is Steve Brown playing all time Safety for both teams?
Kidding, he's had a good year so far.
September 19th, 2009 at 12:14 AM ^
nice 69(haha) yard run. This is a CRAZY game
September 19th, 2009 at 12:16 AM ^
920 yards combined and counting; did both teams' D forget to get off the bus? Monsterous amount of big plays in this game.
