Sounds like Hart is our next HC.
Be very quiet, I'm hunting Cricket Selectors.
Yeah, he's an Aussie. If I were a Cricket Selector, I would be very afraid.
I'm not quite sure what a Cricket Selector is, but he is most displeased with their performance. I asked him to keep an eye out for ADs while he was on the hunt.
Just going to throw an interesting name out there, and then duck: Bill Cowher. I don't think DB would seriously consider someone who hasn't run a college program, though. Still, the guy can freakin' coach.
My sleep patterns are off and I'm flat out not sleeping well in the last week. Make it stop.
I'm pretty impressed that even after 2 days, we still have very little information. It seems like anyone on any side of the coaching search is completely tight lipped. Everything is still rumors and speculation (and "sources").
I'll give it to Dave Brandon, he sure knows how to run a stealth campaign. If he's travelling anywhere, it must be in one of these because flight aware has nothing:
The airplane picture is hilarious. I was on Okinawa when the Air Force brought the F-22's through for a tour/show of force and there were LEGIONS of Japanese photographers taking pictures of it when it took off and landed at Kadena Air Base. I can only imagine what their reaction would have been if your picture was accurate.
Well, if now's the time to make up crazy rumors with a modicum of plausibility, how about:
Harbaugh returns to Stanford for 1 more year, with the plan that he takes over the Chargers in 2012, who either use the Harbaugh hire to gain momentum to build a new stadium in San Diego or to start anew when they announce their move to LA for the 2012 season.
Of course, this rumor wouldn't work out if Norv Turner leads San Diego deep into the playoffs or possibly the Super Bowl in 2011. Ha Ha! One hurdle cleared...
I think Miles is still a strong candidate. I don't like the messing with recruits sleaze, but I feel like the Michigan AD has a culture that would not permit such foolishness, unlike LSU.
I really think that some serious discussions will happen Saturday and we will start hearing results Monday or soon after.
I just feel like The Hatter will be it.
Denver Post article - "Broncos' interest in Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh has cooled"
Is the rumor about the job opening needing to be open for a full week true?
My understanding is that yes, it does.however they can name the coach before that and have a deal, it just can't officially happen for a week.
I've seen some people claim there's a state law that applies here, but I've been unable to find any evidence of that.
I did find an HR document from a U-M site that says that a job has to be posted for seven days, but there's a "posting waiver" that it seems to me could easily be used here and mean that a coach could be hired officially at any time. (Note also that the head coaching job hasn't been posted at the U-M online job board--unlike three years ago.)
A. Posting Requirement
Regular openings of 50% effort or more (twenty hours or more on a standard work schedule) will be posted for a minimum of seven calendar days prior to being filled. Regular openings of less than 50 % effort (less than twenty hours on a standard work schedule) may be posted at the discretion of the unit.
1. Posting Waiver:
A unit may request a waiver of the posting requirement from the appropriate Human Resource office. The standard for considering a request for a waiver of the posting requirement is whether the legitimate business needs of the unit outweigh the University’s intent to provide notice of employment opportunities to the University community and others through the posting process. Examples of a business need include, but are not limited to, the University’s commitment to assist reduction-in-force candidates and dual career candidates.
Tony Dungy on the Dan Patrick Show...
Dan: Has Michigan called you about your job?
Tony: They did not...I'm kinda glad they didn't call...my dad grew up a big Michigan Man...I'm glad they didn't call
Dan: What if they do call?
Tony: If they call, I have some great recommendations for them
Makes you wonder who he has in mind for us and if there would be a chance given the Michigan connections he's got...
He recommended Charlie Strong to Louisville.
If he said this in public.
I may have missed the memo but is the site down due to problems or is it because Brian has limited acess due to all the drama that is going on?
Site's been crashing under all the traffic. Front page commenting and creating threads can only be done through the iphone app. Voting's also disabled.
I know this is a bit short-sighted but it'd be great if DB could name a coach by tomorrow. Lyons and Frost announce on Saturday and might slip away. We need those guys bad.
Wishful thinking I suppose.
anyone heard of gus malzahn. he sounds good to me
Is there actually a coach not name Harbaugh that the fan base is legitimately going to be excited about? Hoke is plan B for all intensive purposes. Les Miles hasn't won anything of significance with his own players. Patterson and Peterson seem like possible candidates to be RichRod 2.0...I almost feel like it's going to take a wild card like Jon Gruden to really get some excitement going and for a boom in recruiting…
I’m not saying that’s what I want, just looking for some feedback on the line of thinking.
"for all intents and purposes"
Intensive purposes = intents and purposes
I learned this only recently so sorry if this seems to be harsh. Go Blue.
Negative. It's a malapropism. At best a neolgism.
perfectly cool w/ the correction...
Fan base would be excited about Gruden. Not saying it's necessarily a possibility or that he'd be a slam dunk to succeed here, but people would definitely be buzzing about it.
Daryl Rogers.. he thinks the AA folks are arrogant asses
There's an awesome flashback. Oh how I miss the days when we were fearsome enough to be considered arrogant asses and we considered it compliment.
I'm starting to think that Les Miles is more and more of an option due to the delay of any information. Obviously nothing will come out until AFTER the cotton bowl which is tonight if Miles really is one of the lead men.I don't know how i feel about that.
FWIW, ESPN story lead-in said Harbaugh down to Stanford / NIners decision with an announcement expected as early as today.
It's been a long time since we've pulled a genuine upset. Come on, baby! (Translation: Last chance, Harbaugh, to avoid becoming persona non grata and cast forever into the wilderness.)
dream school my ass
and has special relationships with all those players he recruited to help turn things around. He's a coach remember. It will be difficult to leave his players. He's not Saban where he's done it before.
In a sense he already has a dream job. But he could pursuit another one and here's hoping at this point he does. =]
I agree. But for those of us old enough to remember, Texas A&M tried to make Bo the first coach earning $1 million a year and he stayed in Ann Arbor for the precise reason you stated above, the kids.
* Michigan is a bigger job than Texas A&M.
* Bo wasn't a Texas A&M alum and ex-football player.
Didn't Monahan also give Bo an A2 Domino's franchise to stay at Michigan back then? Given the amount of that crap we ate, that alone would have been worth a fortune.
ESPN NFL - Jim Harbaugh deciding between staying at Stanford or coaching 49ers, source told Chris Mortensen
"The who reportedly were trying to interview Harbaugh earlier this week, have moved on. John Elway, the Broncos' new football czar, said on his weekly radio show on 87.7 The Ticket in Denver on Friday that he believes Harbaugh wants to stay at Stanford rather than turn pro.
Elway also said he believes Harbaugh's alma mater, Michigan -- which dismissed Rich Rodriguez earlier this week -- might be back in the picture."
I was just watching the espn news, they can't figure out why Stephen Ross flew to Califronia yesterday with no offer, in fact they said no one can understand it. CAN anyone say Stephen Ross might be the Agent Michigan is using to confuse the media.
Then don't know anymore than we do what is going on and won't until it is time.
...Harbaugh to everywhere, so when he makes a Press Conf. I think thats the time to panic.
on Espn.that JH is down to staying at Stanford or going to the 49ers. Decision maybe today. Let's drink heavily so we miss the PC announcing the hiring of Hokemon.
...but what about Bob Green from Montana Tech? We'd have to talk him out of retirment, but I'd pay $5 million for this.
Holy F, he's my new favorite, for sure.
"Like tryin' to sell bubble gum in the lockjaw ward..."
My stomach hurts.
Hire him! I bet we could get him for 4.99 million...
I cant make a forum due to not enough points. Thought I would put it in this forum.
